One extra thing to know about the 4 GB patch is that some people will find it doesn't work if they try and patch it inside the program area due to settings that prevent changes. Then it needs to be dragged to desktop, patched there and put back. It's also a good idea to make a backup of the games exe before fiddling. Green with envy over all that memory :P

@@TeaAddict Running the game as Admin helps some people- if that's what you mean. My card is even older, the 1050TI. I was thinking of seeing if i could get a 1070 or 80 still. The only thing this pc has going for it is win 7 as I hate being forced to update windows.

The seventh file tells it to "look elsewhere" for the files you were showing, like the config and such, it tells it to look in MRDJ -> The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection -> The Sims 2 -> Support which has "code.cfg" and "config.xml" and some other files too.

I don't use the Graphic Rules Maker. I just manually adjust the GraphicRules file. Not hard, but if intimidating, I guess I would suggest using the app. I manually adjusted screen resolution and got rid of the black box shadows which appear in all TS2 driven games on newer systems (not on my Native Windows 7 which has been upgraded to Windows 10, though).
I also had a GTX 1070 in my old PC, and since I've used Win7 on that PC I've never got any issues with Sims 2 at all. It ran natively without any problem or error. But the mainboard died after 6 years, I've decided that building a completely new PC is the smarter thing to do. When switching to a newly build PC last month I sadly had to switch to Win10 too because of the new hardware. Not only do I now have to use a Windows which won't let you do everything as you please (like completely disabling auto-update), but I'm also pretty upset how many older games don't work (properly) anymore or even the obstacles I had to go through to even install some of them. Of the 17 Sims 2 addons I''ve installed from my bought discs, I had to start the setup of the last 6 or 7 addons via cmd with administrator rights because the deactivated UAC didn't let me start the autorun.exe. Apparently the non-existing Administrator of my PC - which is obviously using a higher tier of Admin-Account (do you even logic Microsoft?) - said ''No' and the >turned off< UAC also doesn't care for any admin user, it only obeys THE one and only Administrator. Not to mention that you need to install every patch with Raven Dragonfires "Grumpy Loader", because the next addon checks for an up-to-date game and otherwise tries (and fails) to update your game.

I have all the expansions and most of the stuff packs disks I've never gotten the 4TV patch to work. Just kept crashing and flashing purple until using the graphics rule maker and setting compatibility to vista Service Pack 2 on windows 10 and a nvida geforce gtx 1080. If I can get this game to work anyone can.
Girl can you help me please I got the game, ultimate collection, off ogd.. it's extracted onto my desktop now. Whenever I try to open it and go to setup it will try to install but then say it failed because I needed to put a disc in.. everyone has said I need a crack to fix that but I can't find where to get that!! I got Sims 1 to work perfectly fine on the same laptop with now disc but sims2 is being quite troublesome.
Hey, I haven't downloaded from old games download before so I'm not sure what the download contains, but it should have the crack in a file somewhere? - otherwise if you're keen, I'd recommend checking out the Osab Sims 2 download plus installer, which makes everything suuuper easy. Hi! No worries, I'll see if I can help a little bit here - no, you don't need to have the Ultimate Collection, I think you should be able to patch your disc version! You can save the patch file iterally anywhere on your computer - I have it in a folder in my documents called "sims 2 tools" - and double click it to run the patch. When it says "select executable", you want to navigate to your latest EP - so in your case, EP08 Apartment Life. I'm not sure exactly what the file path will be, but it will be something like Program Files x86 / EA Games / The Sims 2 / EP08 or maybe Apartment Life / TSBin / Sims2Ep08.exe? And then you should get a popup saying that your game has been patched. If you would like more help, feel free to pop into my Discord server - it might be easier if we can share screenshots if you get stuck! Good luck :)

From what I understand you need to apply the patch to whatever .exe you run the game off. I'm just confused as to whether I would apply it to the Mansion and Garden Stuff .exe like normal (since I believe that is my most recent expansion) or would I apply it to the Sims2RPC application instead? Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks

There should also be an executable file in your "Program Files / EA GAMES / The Sims 2 / Free time" folder, as well as the icon!

No you won't have to redownload your mods and CC, and no it probably won't make it run a lot faster. It mostly helps to prevent crashing.

For the 4gb patch, I followed all your instructions and it doesn't change my memory from 2048. Do you know what I do now to fix this problem?

there's an option in the rpc settings to automatically apply the 4gb patch !
