I love Souichi's stories
It feels like whoever animated this didn't give a shit about the material they were making this off of. Junji ito has always been known for his terrifying imagery and just looking at this and everything in the collection they haven't even scratch the level of fear they should have been able to. Watching how jagged and quick the creature rises from the water and how its movement towards the girl feels like they just took a still image and moved it to the left. I get that these are short stories but take some time to have the monster rise from the water give it mass make its movements slow but powerful towards the girl or keep it jagged but put effort into showing its body moving. Something that size and shape should be terrifying to see so it is a big let down that the animators couldn't even accomplish that
I'd like to see you try making a single frame that takes days to draw only for you to have to draw 29 more frames and it isn't even a second of the animation you have to draw
I think it’s less laziness and more the fact that anime artists are paid by the frame
i don't think this is the fault of the individual animators, it's more the direction they were given
@@foafster I completely forgot I even commented this 3 years ago. Yeah I’ve gotten a bit more mind into the struggles when it comes to this stuff. I think poor direction and budget more than likely put the animators on a constraint and certain corners were cut to get the product released. Still doesn’t prevent the product from being a let down, but it was a bit foolish back then to blame the animators for what wasn’t really their fault.
Really hoping though that at least budget and direction will help when they get Uzamaki out this October because as a fan of his work I would like to see it get the love and attention it needs that including proper budget and direction for the animation crew.

I think the first one was a part of his dream because when Souichi wakes up in the sequel to it he says, “Ran kinda long, didn’t it?” When he gets dragged by his wife in the first comic we didn’t see him get eaten or harmed, he just probably sweet talked his way out of running away from the fashion model or something.
Maybe Junji Ito originally thought it would be cool to have Souichi grown up but then when it was released he didn’t like the idea any more so he made the sequel.

I swear with the right special fxs, makeup, by god a good director Junjis Works would fly well with Live Action. I wish the Uzumaki director could of taken the 2001 adaptation of Uzumaki and made it into a 3 season show. He had the tone right down just need better way of formatting it.

It was a dream.
This is how Souichi should have been used: as somewhat comic relief at the end of the episode, not as the introduction chapter for whole anime adaptation. So many people droppes the series because they were promised spooks and what they saw was comedy horror at best and rotting doll, both with numerous visual errors and janky animation. Even if the beginning and ending Souichi stories were swapped, that would have made things more interesting, because the model is actually frightening, even in this trainwreck of an adaptation.
