    We go up every year to caucmogomoc. My grandparents used to tend the gate there back in the day. Needless to say I had an amazing childhood. My grandfather was a forest ranger on allagash mountain

      Did your grandfather 👴 ever see or talk about Bigfoot?? I can only imagine the adventures.

    I was surprised to see lost pond. The last time I was there I believe I was 12 years old, I'm 34 now. It's been so long that I don't remember it being that tough to get into. The fishing there I remember was terrible. There used to be an actual camp there not too far from where you guys were parked. I'll have to make my way back there when I get done building my scout.

      That's the only one I saw on the list of campsites that said 4x4 was required to get there. Certainly a cool spot, you could maybe do it without four wheel drive if you were careful, but it was the trickiest access road I have seen in the North Maine Woods.

    Thanks for adding place names. Most channels do not add any location info. With the purchase of an off road teardrop we are looking for out of the way places, and scouting has been getting expensive with gas prices. We spent $100 yesterday checking some places out and none were tripping our trigger so to speak. Since most places are first come first serve it’s great to have a priority list of locations in your back pocket! Thanks again ! I just hit the subscribe button too.

      Thank you! I agree, it’s sort of hard to pick a place not seeing them, and not knowing what is available. I’d like to check out some more sometime.

    Hello from PA, your campsite videos are priceless!!! In 2020 I made my first trip to NMW and planned to camp at Lost Pond. I had no information about the campsite except what I found on the NMW website which said 4x4 accessible. When I got there late in the afternoon after 12 hours on the road alone, I realized 4x4 accessible didn't mean my off the lot Chevy Colorado. I walked a short way back and decided not to try it. Found a dead end road and camped in my truck for the night. Thanks for the videos, they're entertaining and informative. I'm leaving in 3 days for my 4th annual Fall trip to camp and hunt partridge.

    Never had a bad time or met a person I didn't like while camping in the NMW. (It may be the beers....or my jolly bearded self.) I've been to the Pillsbury site. Did you check haymock that day? That's a huge site. 8 spots. Gonna check these other spots out! Great video!

      Yes, it was occupied with a large group or family so I moved on. Quite a few great sites were occupied. I'm planning to get back in the summer to check out more.

    Can you drive at 35 foot motorhome in any of the locations? Nice.

      I checked the North Maine Woods website and found “Mobile homes are not allowed in the NMW for recreational use. Only single vehicles less than 28 feet in length and vehicle and trailers with a combined length of less than 44 feet will be allowed entrance. Large vehicles within these limits may also be required to travel at certain low traffic periods through any checkpoint if requested by the checkpoint receptionist on duty.”

    Hi I’m doing a little over a week trip to NMW as I do each year but would like to get to the Lost Pond campsite. Could you try and help me find it on gps? I’ve been struggling locating it on sat and on the NMW campsite locations. Thought you’d be able to maybe help best?

    pure scam

    • @joemcdonough326
      @joemcdonough326  Před 2 lety

      $16 per day and $15 overnight per person, it's reasonable, but it can add up fast with passengers or a group of people.

    • @escapetherace1943
      @escapetherace1943 Před 2 lety

      @@joemcdonough326 it's ridiculous to have a separate charge for overnight. Like, aren't the majority going to want to sleep out in the woods? They claim their prices are needed for staff to allow access, but they should drop the pretention, make it pure wild bushwhack as you go and camp pure nature super cheap/low fees.
      I know for a fact their fees are insane, 250 dollars for a year pass is outrageous, when I can pay 60 and have access to every national park in the country for a year.
      They are just greedy. Land used for commercial timber should be legally accessible to any woodsman for a nominal fee of zero dollars, right to roam.

    • @joemcdonough326
      @joemcdonough326  Před 2 lety +3

      You're certainly not wrong, it adds up fast, and the overnight fee should not be a separate thing. It's so vast and remote, I can't imagine many people going and not staying overnight. However if there were no fees, you would have people setting up shop for the whole summer at all of the good sites.
      I wish it were cheaper, but it is private land and I am grateful to have access at all.
