  • Exactly 14 weeks after leading Bethel High School to the state Group AAA football championship and saying he wanted to do the same thing in basketball, Allen Iverson teamed with backcourt partner Tony Rutland to do just that Saturday night.
    Iverson and Rutland combined for 58 points, and both produced crucial plays in the final 1:27 to ensure a 77-71 Bruins victory against pesky John Marshall of Richmond with 3,100 looking on at University Hall.
    Bethel (28-3) capped the most successf
    ALLEN IVERSON, 6-1, Jr., Bethel. Maybe the nation's best high school point guard, the first team Parade All-American led the Bruins to their first state, Eastern Region and Peninsula District titles. He averaged 31.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game. He scored 948 points, breaking a 20-year-old state record held by Moses Malone of Petersburg High. He is at the top of the list when players having the complete package of skills are discussed.

    Great player. But the two best Virginia high school basketball players of all time were Moses Malone and Ralph Sampson. When Moses Malone ran on to the court for his last high school game, it was hypnotic. As for Ralph Sampson, this was before he ruined his knees and back playing basketball.
    He could jump so high as a high school player that even Moses Malone wouldn't have beaten him in a one-on-one game. But high school is high school, and things change as the years quickly go by....

      Bruton High School (my former school) played against Ralph in the state championship in 1978. It was the 2nd year of my school’s existence. The tallest player on our team was maybe 6’4”. We lost by like 13 but there was nothing that could be done with Ralph.

    Allen Iverson and Randy Moss were the best athletes of their time in their sport and I wish they could have just kept it about the sport and just achievement when it comes to the sport; all that foolish marketing and imagery is foolish; the guy you see here and at Georgetown is Iverson, same with Moss, the guy he was just coming up that's him and all that anti-, and rebellious mentality but that's not those guys, that was imagery and marketing in those leagues presenting those guys like they were some type of lawless individuals.

      Greatest Comment Ever...300% TRUTH

    • @plainsimple244
      @plainsimple244 Před rokem

      @@MyronMagnus Yeah, the actual industry those guys are in with professional sports would show them as class-acts and dignified men who were extremely powerful and athletic with handling themselves well....Well that doesn't vibe well with those companies because that can breed positive cultural influence, just like the negative cultural influence, you see?... So it's like a woman with integrity being defiled at a party, you have to get her to think behaving like that is cool or popular but it's not, nobody wants their daughter being defiled at a party ... so I'm not buying into the rebellion of Iverson/Moss with the tats and hair because I didn't see Iverson growing up in high school/college with corn rolls and tats but when he got to the pros, then that's the negative influence -- even when Iverson went to jail, he didn't have tats/corn-rolls... see?... So in my own foolish opinion, something like that took place in exchange for money or a bigger deal....What would you do for a huge contract? Ya know. You see Randy Moss now, what type of guy is he in his retirement career? He's just Randy Moss and there's nothing negative about his persona, well he was always that way so all that crap in Minnesota and then going to Oakland and then you see how productive in New England but Moss was NEVER about the propaganda but does he go around tatting himself up with braids now? No, because that's not him, it was NEVER him because that's the business and industry they were in putting them in that foolish situation.... Now they could have said no but more than likely they said yes because the HOF is there and the money and fame is there.... Look at Jerry Rice, his thing could have been something else, ya know? Different time but same cost or different cost.... Michael Irvin didn't get braids and tats but look at the stuff he went through and still is dealing with concerning scandal -- so his thing could have been different, certain guys will do one thing for fame/money than other things. You have politics, imagery, sex, scandal, etc... see?
