Gotrex is alive in AoS - it's a long story, the novels explain - and he's basically an outsider who hates everything about it. He goes around murdering things and being disappointed he still can't die, also he's looking for Felix. Felix is hinted to still be alive, resurected as a Stormcast possibly
Gotrek's a completely different character now, he's acts like a teenage boy and is about as smart as well. The setting is just a shitty world of warcraft clone. I recommend nobody read the books.
@@MrCattlehunter that's nowhere close to true lmaaao
@MrCattlehunter don't think you read the same books I did. I look forward to them every time a new one comes out.
@@MrCattlehunterI can say for a fact that you’ve had your head in the sand since 2015 if that’s what you believe is going on with Gotrek and AoS.
@@prophet89 you liked the one where gotrek punched a dwarf king in the face like something out of naruto and that shakes him out of his melancholy? if you didn't think that was wildly out of character for him then you weren't paying attention during the previous books. then again, gotrek has been out of character since orcslayer where that idiot nathan long took over, who clearly hadn't even read the previous ones since he contradicts them multiple times even on basic points, like how the difference between high and dark elves was unknown to everyone during giantslayer to the point of it almost causing gotrek and felix to be killed, but now in orcslayer it's common knowledge to even the dumbest dwarf drunkard. like this is a key (if minor) plot point in giantslayer, so the only way he makes this mistake is if he didn't read that book. which explains why all the characters behave out of character, including the dwarves which don't behave like dwarves half the time, when they're not doing slapstick comedy over dumb shit like minor troll treasure (which gotrek suddenly finds extremely important, even though he just overpaid a thousand times over for his hotel room), etc.
these books may be alright on their own, but as GOTREK and FELIX books they are shit
I miss the old Dawn of War 1 days, where the men were men, the women were men, and the sheep were nervous.
And Dawn of War 1 had in my opinion the best in aesthetic design/direction overall in any game I've played -- great music (Jeremy Soule knows how to make vocals and percussion sound *so good* too), great sound design, great art direction, animations and especially the voice-acting for each unit. Everything about it oozed character and it was really entertaining to even just watch/listen. Old Relic was a dream team.

Yeah, I do too. Trying to change the formula too much made it worse, especially in 3.
@@plasticpeon we do not speak of it, we might accidentally summon it.
That sounds like Slaanesh talk to me son.
I dont know about all that. Women being men sounds like a more recent phenomenon
Blizzard can only dream of making Warcraft 3 Reforged like this, the cutscenes and character design and the story flow and unit introductions gave me a heavy wc3 nostalgia that i never thought i would experience again.
@@kruleworldthat no longer exist. old blizzard is long dead. let it go.
The saying "Use Denuvo, go broke" needs to be a thing.
Use Denuvo, get remuvoed
DONE!!
I loved the video. Was gonna be a day 1 for me. Got a 4090 pc so I was like it’s gonna look sweet too. - Naw dog! We don’t fuk wit kernel level checks & constant ones too. Not sure but if I can be bothered I’ll pirate it. But more then likely I’ll skip it until I find out they took it off. & if they don’t - I’ll just forget it ever was. 🤷🏻♂️
Denuvo, DeNontO.
@@plick645 big trU 👊🏻
For Ourkanabis ! For the Emperor !
Splatty had me rolling during that intro. 🤣
I came here for these comments because I was DYING
Ourkanibis!! Protect it from the horrors of chaos!
I kinda love how the banner hero leaves his banner to fight with his sword, and when the fight is done he summons it back to him.
Denuvo? Guess I'm sailing the high seas for this one.
Hah. The irony.
They deserve it.
@Ceabrus74, is it the devs' fault? Soumd like some dumb higher up hasn't heard what's up.
Heresy! Dawn of War 1 was far better than 2! That said, Denuvo murders any thought of this.
I understood nothing of the lore drops in the intro, but it was fun to listen to and I liked the voice-acting. Up to now, I like what I saw in that tutorial mission: the visuals/style of the terrain, the play speed and gameplay, decent view distance even if isometric, etc.
$60 tho...
Gotrek is unkillable. Pretty sure his final outing will be Gotrek vs The Doomslayer Highlander style to determine who holds the title of the ultimate slayer
Lmaooo love that
the voice acting is amazing. the writing's a bit heavy handed, but the delivery does a really good job of humanising sigmarines in a satisfying way
When you read their stories, you see so much of the tragedy of who the Stormcast are, and were, and what they will become. I just finished reading Yndrasta: The celestial spear and you feel sorry for her
Gotrek at the very least is still alive! There's an audio drama series with him voiced by Brian Blessed called Realmslayer. Highly reccomend.
Yo. That "everything dies... except us." line was executed perfectly. Shit kinda hit me.
That dragon rider had the Sephiroth effect. I hate to be the choir that has to follow the one winged angel around.
Separate note.... DENUVO?!?!?!?!?!...damn
Denovu is a big nope. Honestly, I'm shocked there are developers stupid enough to still use the "service" given its reputation. Not only is it widely hated within the gaming community, it's also completely ineffective. Pirates always make it a point to see how fast they can crack Denuvo, and it usually only takes a couple days. And of course, as you said, it literally makes games run worse. If you actually cared about the integrity of your games, you wouldn't sell gamers an inferior version of your product.
+1. Denuvo guarantees i do not preorder and never purchase until much later after Denuvo is finally removed. If it is not then it is a no buy, too many other games that do not insult the consumer.
Most of the titles I own sit at 0% progress because I see no point in early access or preorder hysteria. Games nowdays pretty much always come out unfinished and buggy. Heck they even remake entire parts of the game with patches, like what happened to DivinityOS2 and its last chapter or how Cyberpunk went from a buggy mess to a great experience. So I usually enjoy a "shiver me timbers" version until I know the game actually deserves money. Developers underestimate the readiness of people to pay. If they can afford it - players will definitely support a good game with their coin. Even if they already finished it before buying, hense 0% progress and empty list of achievements.
The reason people still use it is because it works
@@TheKruxed Public execution also works as a deterrent for loitering.
@@kjmunson1In which case there would be less loitering
Gotta love the animations, especially the dragon thingie, sidestepping around a target to get a piece of the action.
I like this style of game. Too bad about the bad copy-protection software :| Maybe the devs can reconsider that.
It's frontier and they're absolute dicks so i'd say the answer is no they wont
It's a publisher decision, and they won't. As Splat mentioned, they do this for all of their games. If "it doesn't work" and "it makes the game play worse" haven't convinced them before, there's no reason it'll suddenly convince them now.
Imo, the only thing that would change their mind is a coordinated (and successful) boycott.
@@brianlynchehaun1963 those copy protections will just get cracked anyway. sounds like some higher ups are just stubborn
@@throeawae2130 that's exactly what I meant when I said "it doesn't work": copy protection doesn't work.
@@brianlynchehaun1963 Steam lists the dev and the publisher as the same company
Put huge number of hours in Dawn of war, what separated it from Warcraft or CnC was squads, which were more resilient than individual units.
This looks great, definitely going to play this!
not only squads come on.... overall DoW is just on another lvl with graphics, animations, voice acting, the way of gaining currency, finishers, etc etc
ohh man I forgot the finishers...I vividly remember one fight with a Killa Kan, I thought it to be just a single enemy...big mistake!
O_O I totally agree on the "never pre-order" but wow, intro screen, music, & voice acting are fantastic. Adding this to the Wishlist to keep an eye on it.
Edit: Gah, deal breaker for me. Too bad. Removing from Wishlist...
Agreed on all (including the never preorder principle)
I say Denuvo like Timmy's dad says Dinkleberg. 😡🤜🤛
The voice acting is really on point so far.
And I love how you can really hear Sean Bean going for it and giving his best.
Good stuff!
I didn't hear Bean, but the one hero dude sounded a lot like Iain Glenn to me (Jorah Mormont in GoT/ Dr Isaacs in ResE movies)
Denuvo anti cheat is a hard pass. Why do they keep doing this?
To not get cracked in a few days!
But still they will get cracked in a week xD
16:23 is my favorite splat moment ever. So raw.
I loved WFB, played it for years and the lore is the best. I do think AOS is the better game though, and has it's own unique and interesting lore. Both are good. Also, Gotrek is still alive. I recommend listing to/reading Realmslayer: A Gotrek Gurnisson Series. It's an amazing audio experience!
I was weary of AoS when it first came out, but as more and more armies come out i really appreciate it as a more high fantasy counterpart to WFB. Stuff like the Ossiarch Bonereapers, the Kharadon overlords, etc, that i feel maybe woudn't super gel with WFB but work well in AoS.
Even the stormcast, which i really didn't like. since i kind of despise space marines from 40k already and Stormcast were looking a lot like that, have gronw on me and i think they've come a long way since release.
@@rm2569 Yeah, the lore has gotten quite good and original over the years.
Looks great, but Denuvo means a firm no from me. thanks Splat.
If they add in the Ossiarch Bone Reapers, I will absolutely buy it. If not, Denuvo will probably keep me from buying, but not a hard pass. I like a lot of the AOS games, just not the choice of the same factions in every single game. Its ALWAYS Night Haunt, Stormcast Eternals, and Orruks or alternatively chaos. Bring me the OBR, or even the Fyre Slayers, how about the Khardron or the Idoneth Deepkin? I'm up for the Skaven and the Cities of Sigmar. Where are the Seraphon? There are *currently* 24 factions to choose from, and we only ever see the smallest handful! I want more diversity of weird dudes in my Warhammer games!
I want to play my ugly factions
I like warhammer 40k because most of their games have imperial guard which helps immerse me into the setting, I feel like not including the cities of sigmar is also a big let down for current age of sigmar games
@@AnkhtoweI was not aware of which God of Chaos would be put into this one. I would like to see something other than Nurgle (it's ALWAYS Grandfather Nurgle), so I'm okay with Tzeench, but still... IMO it would be nice to see some of the weird niche factions get some digital love.
Also, thank you, it has been corrected! I'm not sure how I missed that before posting!
@@jaredmoore9537It always used to be Khorne, generic demons, now it’s always Nurgle, generic zombies. I think Warhammer Online was Tzeentch but that was like a decade ago or something.
Give me Slaanesh you cowards.

When you nuke entire fantasy universe just to have Sigmarines defending the canabis
Only subscribed a week ago. Love your dedication uploading every day.
Frontier developments the Dev who is also the developer of Elite Dangerous. This would explain the slow ponderous pacing . Having been burned by FDev already with the odyssey dlc for elite I will be holding back and not buying this until all of the kinks have been worked out and trust me there will be plenty of kinks. Finally the price is astronomical at 59,99 euros, really? This smacks of greed. I'll stop now before I trigger too many people 😂, this is only an opinion and there will be plenty of differing opinions on this I think. Thanks for showing it Splat ❤❤(plus I forgot to mention my total disgust at Denuvo being used and did I say that this looks mechanically very much like a point and click adventure story from 2010 not an RTS from 2023.. enough salt, it is a hard cast iron pass from me) 😢
Frontier are good at creative stuff. Planet Coaster and Zoo are really amazing games. Very odd choice to give these guys the keys tho. I will admit they do what they do well yet again here tho - animations are always spot on from these guys. They are also terrible at UI, which also shows when you play this game.
"... I will be holding back and not buying this until all of the kinks have been worked out..." Excellent advice to be considered before any new game purchase. 🤔
I desperately want to see the Aelves and Sylvaneth to join, including the dwarves it will be so cool to see
i am one of those werdos who got into warhammer after the end times. I gotta say that after they ironed out some issues with AoS, this new setting with all the different warbands and lores and stuff. Its all great. AoS is my fave atm followed by 40k, then fantasy. Check out 2+tough for bingible lore vids for AoS
Gotrek survived, and so did Thanquol. No word on Felix unfortunately
Gotrek and Felix was my first literary experience of warhammer, top stuff
People are straight up sleeping on my boy Brunner the Bounty Hunter
The only game I pre ordered and didn't regret was baldur's gate 3
If a developer incentivizes completion speed in a tactical or strategy game, I'm out. I cannot for the life of me understand why that is a common reward metric. I do not want to speed through a mission as fast as possible, I want to take my time, enjoy the game, appreciate the aesthetics, and plan out how I'm going to manage my resources.
Whenever they say "Hail Sigmar" I just hear "Hail Vectron!"
Looks solid but the slow movement speed ended up driving me crazy in DoW 2 as well. Much preferred the speed and brutality of 1 but fair play to the devs making this game look so nice.
The most important info comes at 33:19 and you hate to hear it. Game does look good otherwise, still gonna be a hard pass because of Denuvo
Hey Splat, big love for being so consequent in regards to Denuvo. I absolutely despise this new trend of only adding it after all the gaming outlets already published their reviews. At least the devs were honest in this case...
Our cannabis never survives me. Don't ever change splatt, I ded.
"... and save our Cannibis..."
"FOR OUR CANNIBIS!"
Yes gotrek is still alive. I just love fielding the model against my skaven playing friend. He just stands on top of a pile of rubble and dead skaven all majestically ☺️
16.50 ish is why i watch your vids Splat. Keep up the good work. :)
I nearly shit from laughing when I heard "Sanctum Dominus ohhhh ohhhh" lol
Damn the combat animations are AMAZING for an RTS game. You can actually see characters getting pushed back by each hit.
My only issue thus far is that they're using the Hammers of Sigmar. They had a bunch of Stormhosts and used the most basic ones.
It feels so weird to watch the Eternals to fight against anything else than Chaos. It was awesome in the books when they did it and I'd love to see it in this game.
I was admittedly not overly enthusiastic but still interested in the title but Denuvo means it's a no-buy for sure.
your finally the first youtuber or influencer i hear that encourage people not to pre-order, such a scummy business model that way to many bored nerds cant ignore which just leads to bad environment for game development
Uses Denuvo
You sifted alright...
I honestly can't believe they still have made a honest turn based Warhammer (or 40k) game. It's the whole point.
I live in Canada, we defend our cannabis pretty fiercely as well 😂
ONCE.... I preordered a game.... it was Warcraft 3 Reforged.... NEVEr AGAIN.....
Thank you Splat for explaining the attack move, Im new to rts and I honestly didnt know what it was :P
really enjoy your content i may have to open twitch back up for the first time in years to watch you
"Gotrek and Felix fan." I see you have impeccable taste.
Gotrek failed to meet his glorious death and outlived his world.
So, basically, Gotrek is the worst slayer ever.
lol, he actually calls himself that when he's feeling down@@JackPhoenixCz
"Sanctus Dominus, HUUUUUUUUUUUUUU HUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"
I clicked like extra hard for that.
I also sub'd, sorry thought I had ages ago. Been watching you for ages. Even if you do say Gotrek in a very different way.
Ground Marines and their Psyker friend fight to defend Weedington?
Gameplay is fire and I want more of this. But How is this 60$ and only 4 factions
aka Dawn of War IV: Rise of the Sigmarines. Which is not a criticism, Dawn of War was a really fun game (though I didn't play the sequels), and this seems a fairly promising demo.
That cutscene motivation 👌
"we're using crossbowmen as our scouts"
me: yeah, that makes sense.
"we also have a dude that rides around on a dragon"
me: so... he didn't fly ahead to scout why? seems like he'd be less at risk of ambush than the crossbows...
*edit* oh good, they realised that... after they'd lost contact with their original scouts
When stormcast die, they literally get resurrected, or "reforged." They have very little sense of self-preservation. Pretty sure the dragon does not get to be resurrected like the regular troops, so it KIIIIIIIINDA makes sense they would withhold an asset like that. But like... aerial scouting is just exponentially more effective, so unless it was super extra dangerous, it would probably make sense to risk it. Or yknow, cast spells to scry and whatnot. They could do that, too. I think the stormcasts just have zero imagination or tactical acumen.
So, the dragons are from Azyr so they are also part of the "reincarnating" cycle (but slower. Goes back to the star, then down)
However for the scooting with dragons, the orrucks have really mean crossbows and "monster killing ballista".
Even in gameplay, if you fly, everybody see you, everybody shoot you.
So it's understandable for once
@@Michael-gs3lwfair enough. i got the impression they could just... fly half a mile above the ground, beyond the range and elevation of such weapons. I've got sharp eyes, i know for a fact i can see the individual legs on a horse from almost a mile away, i figure a flying scout could get a decent impression of troop numbers from that height.
Problem is these are Kruleboyz orruks. Think Vietcong if they were amphibious Orks that were good at tunneling and staying underwater for hours.
Their whole thing is they’re super sneaky and will use decoys, overwhelming firepower, magic and everything from poisons to bio-weapons they trade off Nurgle followers to get an edge.(this shows in gameplay with a myriad of abilities like their basic infantry able to turn invisible while they can stop yours from doing the same)
The next mission even shows this off with both their shaman shifting the land to make devastating swamp traps & choke points with “clawing waters” for their ballista to snipe your slowed down troops and they keep spawning from tunnel entrances.
So trying to see from far above is mostly pointless as they know how to use it to set-up ambushes and traps in the dense jungle foliage the flyers can’t see through that will annihilate slower armies that march through.
Damn Sigmar sure like to defend his Cannabis!!!
yeahhhhhhhh.... games installing spyware and/or rootkits, or things that rootkits can exploit onto your box?
Nope, that's not EVER happening... not if I'm ever aware of it, thanks for the heads-up splatterman :)
Absolutely let us defend...Harkanibus.
never pre order, totally agree with you
Search but do not engage...immediately blows down a gate, which she could easily fly over. Yeah...
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
3:51 well that answers that.
Gotrek is alive in AOS. Not heard of Felix being alive yet.
Denuvo = Arrr! Shiver me timbers!
Looks pretty nice, SC. Here is what I want to know, though....and this is important. Do the units get all snarky and say different things if you continuously click on them and annoy them?
It's looking pretty decent compared to earlier I must say. I wish the Orruks would be a lot greener. They're too difficult to see from the background.
Having to press 'F' instead of 'A' to attack-move is pure heresy! Put the heretic who thought of this to the flames!
I wish this could be a base building rts type. Feels like a missed opportunity.
Looks like that old game: WH: Mark of Chaos, but about Imperium and with new graphics
Denuvo is a no-go for me.
Props for the honesty!
Totaly agree with Your take on dow2. loved that game!
Should put the Denuvo warning in the video description
Thanks for the denuvo heads up.
At first launch the Stormcast were truly anonymous. Just a hoard of golden anger with hammers, it was amazing.
Dont like it at all what happened to them since then.
Loving what I see from this game though, looks really fun!
newbie to this and definitely going to get it.
To heavy focus a abilities and melee plays to slow. And with no base building hard pass for me wanted this to be a more updated dow2
this could turn out to do what dawn of war did with 40k. i am not the biggest fan of age of sigmar, but this does intrigue me
It felt clunky when I played a demo and it seems clunky now. I"m probably gonna skip it.
chopped well!
Thank you for another great video!!
I don't like how floaty and slidey all the units are. They have no weight to them.
You should read gotreks aos book, they are so fun
I love his audio drama's
That Sigurn fella seems... off.
It's like the Chaos tried to create a human and it didn't fail but it didn't succeed either.
If it's a Warhammer vs of DOW2 it'll be worth a play.
Was pretty hyped about this after reading about it, moreso after seeing some game play. Sucks about the bad DRM, but I'll still give it a shot if it reviews well enough
Splatty is the best game caster to ever have blessed this Earth
Next time the quest for Ouryeo! lol
Who will defend our cannabis?
i used to play warhammer fantasy and dislike just about everything about age of sigmar.
That's just, like, your opinion, man. One that I share with you 😂
Age of Sigmar sucks, yes-yes-yes!
There's enough big words here and titles, all complex. I'm thankful the subtitles are solid and easy to read cause as a partially deaf person...thats a big big big plus form me. I do miss the dB range and tones etc of voices and specific sounds but from what I can hear the va work sounds fairly ok? Im not a fan of age of sigmar mostly due to the fact they cucked decades of lore and history BUT i do like some of the aesthetics. But as per the actual game play it kinda seems like it was designed for the console...sticky delayed units not alot of detailing.
They don't act like stormcast
