Yay for this reaction! I was waiting for the Blue Light lol. The Janet/Bjork influence is strong here (she’d def say in interviews). She’s about 35 during this album so the maturity shines through. I’d have to recommend the TMA Remix album once you’re familiar with the album- new vocals, & new beats like Mariah. (I can’t wait for the Raven remixes) Check out the Hallucinogen EP and Cut 4 Me mixtape too to see her consistency and progression
And I’d also suggest FKA twigs as another artist with a similar artistic strength in electronic music. (Kelela’s r&b while twigs is more art pop)

As for FKA Twigs, I think I only know about two songs 😂 so I’d totally be up for checking out their stuff! Would you recommend starting with their debut or is there a better album you’d suggest?

This album was monumental for me, I found myself loving Enough (the last minute of the song) and Altadena.

Ngl I think this album is her opus and raven sadly doesn’t really compare. So many incredible hooks and melodies on this album, but it’s still challenging and layered in its lyricism and production. Such a moment, one of my favorite albums of the 2010s. I wouldn’t call it her debut because she has the Cut 4 Me mixtape which is album-length. Hallucinogen EP is also incredible - both worth reacting to. Thanks for reacting!!

This was one of the albums when I was in HS that I was obsessed with. Her and FKA twigs had me in a chokehold. The current favs are Slayyyter and Ethel Cain (very different lol)
