When you become the president decide not to attend anyone
It is probably a good idea for Peter Obi to always ascertain from the relevant committee in the National Assembly on decision made before open criticism. Labor Party is represented in both the house of representative and the Senate and it appears the objection would have come from him through the representative in the house. That is not how the opposition works, he should have been briefed by his members in the house of representative as what is being contemplated and the discussion and how the decision was made. This decision did not come from the president and as the committee on aviation has openly declared they made the recommendation based on the maintenance cost involved in the present aircraft because of old age of the aircraft. What aspect of the reasons given that is not clear to Peter Obi. Nigeria as a country has a standard to maintain the committee of nations, recent death of the Iranian and Malawi presidents through air crash is an example of why the aircraft the president travels on should be in top shape. Nigeria is not the poorest country in the world, beside the country does not even have its own airlines and yet an opposition leader is complaining of an oil producing nation trying to purchase two aircraft. The president's aircraft was not utilized in the president's aircraft malfunctioning, the vice president canceled his trip outside the country because of the problem with the aircraft. Peter Obi wants the country to be run like a welfare state which does not happen anywhere in the world. Whether things are difficult in the country or not, Nigeria is one of the oil producing countries in the world that should set the standard and not lower it. When opposition pleaders make criticism or blame the current administration taking care of the necessities to run the country, they should always remember that the country will remind them of their objections when the time comes. Purchasing two Aircraft for the president and vice president are not personal items to them. The president has always had a private jet of his own. At least before the house of representative came to the conclusion to purchase this aircraft they must have carried out extensive consultation with aviation experts and it is such consultation that should have been of interest to Peter Obi for his own assessment which must also come from an industry expert before coming out openly to object to the decision made by the house.
