When I was in elementary school, we played team handball--but in middle and high school we never played it. I remembered it after watching some olympic handball games.
Handball is a huuuge sport in Germany! I've been there and watched the World Championship now in 2007 and I can promise you, IT WAS GREAT! In the biggest arena there was room enough for over 15 000 people! Imagine that!
I'm from seattle and I love team handball. I went to a private school and we played it in gym class, and I fell in love with it. It shocks me that it hasn't taken off in the US.
I'm new in the USA and i would love to continue playing this awesome sport so unknown here. I hope it becomes more and more popular, because it is one of the most exciting sports in the world!
C´mon!This is the best game I´ve ever played!Handbal=No.1.Well my country-SLOVAKIA- doesn´t belong among the euro top,but we do quite a big progress.Finally after 2 eurochampionships we quallified for World championship next year in Croatia.I´m looking forward to watch as many matches as possible.
Wow, I can't believe that this isn't popular in the US! I've never seen handball before but this makes me want to play for sure. I think the real reason for its lack of popularity here is that basketball is so ubiquitous that there the niche for handball is very small. Gym size is a problem too as the typical basketball court every school has is too small, I suppose.
what i love about the croatian team is that they don't denepend solely on balic. sure in the olympics we got moled down and balic wasn't playing for a good portion of the games, but we sucked this year. i can't watch a single game that's been played in zagreb right now (waaaah!) but apparently, what's doing the trick is strategy and teamwork. balic is fantastic but it's not just him., it's the generation that's amazing. everybody just clicked.
It would be nice to see a team from USA, its kind of odd that so few Americans know it, its a really good TV sport, its fast and the game can turn around any at any moment. Can be very exciting to watch.
I love this sport.. i'm canadian, and I wish this sport was widely more popular. Freaken INTENSE. this makes basketball look like a kids sport. Handball ftw! this is the least complicated rule. at least u don't get called for every foul.

My wrestling team plays a variation of handball.. There is tackling allowed..throwing the ball In the goal is 1 pt.. Kicking it in is 2 pt.. And doing a header is 3 pts.. It's alot of fun!

I'm an American living in Italy for a bit, where I learned about this sport. I love the concept of handball, but there are just a couple rules that don't seem to have a reason. Why is it double dribbling if you touch the side of the ball? Why can't I pass to the goalie? Why can't I steal the ball when the other player's going too slowly? Finally... why isn't this popular in the US?
@jtizzlei Handball, as American football, presents some difficulties for newcomers. At first, you don't enjoy it as much as you could because you play like a bunch of kids running after a ball, but when you get into it, you realize that both (handball an american football) are really tough sports, they bring up the best of strength, agility and, most important, TEAMWORK. I respect and enjoy American football, you should do the same with this badass sport we love here.
Yeah, it's like soccer for Americans: You can use your hands and tackle people! Play it on grass with pads and I think you've got something! Play it on Ice and the Canadians and Minnesotans will love it too!
TO ALL THAT COMMENT ON THE FACT THAT I CALL IT THE "MOST AMERICAN SPORT". i edited this video as a promotional tool fo the sport in the u.s. and the sport combines many elements that americans love in sport and because of which they should embrace it if they just knew about it (speed, high scoring, physicality...). to give you an idea of the sport in the u.s. - at the college nationals were 5 teams. all counted together there might be 50 teams in the whole country!

In Hockey you use your hands that happens to have a stick in it to control your puck In Football we use cleats to run in Hockey you use ice skates. you are right, the sweds do produce lots of talents but non of them stay in the swedish league, you are also right about the germen and spansih league but you are forgetting about the danish league who's getting better and better every year, the countries of former yugoslavia is also on a roll, I think it was Zagreb who have bought croatia's entire national team almost including Zomba etc:D :D

I started a modified version of Handball at my college. I agree that Americans are stubborn, but the comment was made to promote the sport; not to bash Americans for having no respect for other cultures. I'm pretty sure that Handball will spread in America because of videos like this and just common exposure. Most Americans are just ignorant of the sport. Your comment makes it seem as if a great effort was put up to start handball in the US and all the Americans just flat out denied it.

i have played against an amerikan team in a swedish cup called partille cup. i know they have a big club called rocky handball club or somthing like that they where ok.
