The Brazil 2008 final lap was so improbable I don't think you could write a more dramatic script.
A bit like the unprecedented situation that occurred in qualifying at Jerez in 1997. Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Heinz-Harold Frentzen all set identical times to a thousandth of a second to make up the top 3. The time difference on the timing sheets being 0.000. There was even an overlay produced by Williams to prove it wasn't a fluke, showing that both drivers started their laps in the same place and finished with no time difference

yes it is ! it took a gamble staying out ...didnt work .as every top 6 driver switched into intermediates .hamilton was p4-5 all race so after all it wasnt glock who took massa's championship anyway

To be completely honest Lewis deserved the 2008 title after so many mechanical failures that cost him in 2007.
Sujay Sannyamath The mistake at China cost him 07. If we are talking like that you could say Massa deserved to win because of the team fuck ups in 08. It is good that Lewis won 2008 but he didn’t “deserve it”. Massa deserves it just as much and frankly, he should’ve been champion with a drive like he did in Brazil.
@@arranclark5232 What I meant was Lewis has a better performance coming into the last race in 2008 where a 6th place was enough to give him a WDC, while Massa had to not only win but Lewis had finish outside top 6...... All of this after he lost 2007 by just 1 point because Alsono couldn't accept that a rookie was as fast as him and became nasty.( I am not saying Lewis had no fault in that, but you would expect the reigning champion to be more mature than a rookie).
But in hindsight, Massa probably would have made a better WDC in 2008. A heroic win on home soil to take the title - now that we know how their careers would proceed, I would rather Massa had own the WDC.

Grumpy how the fuck was vettel lucky? He was hit in Lap 1 and then he fought back to p6 or so. The Team fucked up his Pit Stop aswell so he really needed to work his way back.

2012 was also one of my favourites. As much as I wanted Alonso to win, Vettel's charge through the field was absolutely inspired. That said, for Alonso to even finish within 3 points with that dog of a car was something special. That 1000yd stare after the race... he was absolutely broken. To think that, by this point, he'd missed out on 3 championships by single digit amounts... had the wind blown another way, we may have been looking at a 5-time champion in 2012 and damn he's talented enough to warrant it.

Nelson Davila And one year later he wins the championship by deliberately crashing out his opponent and isn’t disqualified. Two wrong decisions.
It's 1 thing to close the door on what you think might be safe and cause a crash, but to intentionally hit someone at that speed is disgusting and how he didn't get DQ for that is unbelieve. They both could have been killed.

Yeah. He's a faster driver than Hamilton and many others on the track, but his unreasonable attachment to the wrong teams, and his temper lead him in the wrong direction. His talent was left mostly unused.
@Schuka Metin2 yeah, after it was clear to everyone that McLaren is favoring LH. They are even making up stories and legends now, thinking nobody remembers. Last I heard was that McLaren actually favored Alonso and that it's visible in Monaco 2007, when they called Hamilton too early in the pit. But then you find the actual race, full race, and watch it. And it's quickly clear they are lying, because LH was too slow, and couldn't match Alonso's pace even when Alonso came out of the pit with a full tank. McLaren was financing and training LH for 10 years prior to 2007, so of course they favored him. But Alonso refused to be the #2 driver, so they played with his setup, tire pressure and aerodynamics to make him a bit slower. And it worked out, but Alonso revenged to them later in the season, costing McLaren 100 million dollars in fees.
@Schuka Metin2 Look at you trying to sound smart "oh and they were in the same team" buahaha. You know nothing of F1. Lewis is just a mediocre driver in a fast car or in a team that favours his every move. Alonso is miles better than Lewis ,you know it, I know it, everybody knows it.
@@pathmaker2337 Lewis is not a mediocre driver, that is why he is a 7 world champion, but Alonso is in another level, but his main problem is that after 2007, he did not have a competitive car, probably due to the fact that his competitivity sometimes gets toxic.
LW on the half season 2007 was already above Alonso in championship standings... Even with McLaren getting the things easier for him that was pretty impressive for being a rookie, fighting along the last world champion... I don't like Hamilton but it is what it is.

@kevin paul halliday As far as I know Australia was moved to the beginning of the season due to the number of times Adelaide was affected by wet weather in November. However, March in Melbourne isn't much better. I am from Adelaide and remember going to most of the races here and I agree, a lot of them were great, even with the bad weather...

cause and effect. had prost not intentionally hit senna in 1989, senna would not have intentionally hit prost in 1990. the difference between senna and prost is that senna actually came back and won the race in 1989. being disqualified for *NOT DRIVING BACKWARDS* to go back into track. wtf is this logic?! prost was french. balestre was french. senna was brazilian. everybody knows what was the logic there.
the scenes of prost running to meet balestre and get senna disqualified in 1989 says all there is to know about the 1989 and 1990 titles. see that for yourselves, shouldn't be hard to find that footage online.

I would love to see a documentary on the 07 and 08 seasons. Both years had incredible moments that, if they did or didn't happen, could've seen the driver's title land in someone else hands.

Gonna have to put max and Lewis Abu Dhabi 2021 here
3 instances of Schumacher being unethical - 1994 where it worked for him, 1997 where he was disqualified from the season and 2012 when I remember that he moved aside for Vettel to help gift Vettel the title that Alonso deserved.
Watching this pre-Abu Dhabi 2021. Here’s to hoping we see another epic fight on Sunday.
I remeber ecclestone was asked in an interview if he has any favorites. He said no he just would like to see the wdc decided in the last race, in the last lap and in the last corner. Back then I thought how unlikely that would be. Then the 2008 season came along, the rest is history.

Even after Lewis has now won 7 world titles, I still stings that he never won the title in 2007. I was only nine at the time and I was devastated and I can’t believe he was never the first ever Rookie champion.
Lost the title due a very very strange malfunction of gearbox.
All for the best. I’m sure he learnt a lot that season and wouldn’t be a 7x wdc without that loss. Alonso though should be disappointed. He had no excuse in losing that championship.
