No , that is not what budhha meant.
He didnt give a moral lesson on forgiveness here.
The answer suggest , how detached from past buddha was.
How much he was in the " moment "
If the man had worshipped him , he would have given the same answer.
He was the awakened one !
    He was beyond time

But. remember Buddha never said he was a supreme being (God) and he never wanted people to worship him and proudness .. He want people to understand what he really thought. 🆗

    • @likepurplerain
      @likepurplerain Před 4 lety +14

For some of us it is forgivness for others it is him being in the moment and so It is the same thing cause him being in the Moment is already the forgivness itself. And of course he would have given the same answer. :) he is the awakened but that is not what is important about that story. It’s just a story like many others and those like you who understand it even deeper should not think about what Buddha really meant or not.

@@likepurplerain Allow me to explain. When the man swore at the at the Buddha, to Him it as just sound. Though the Buddha knew the intent of the man swearing was bad, the Buddha was unaffected. However if it was directed at an ordinary man - like ourselves - we would be affected. We would see tha man's behaviour and hear his swearing - like the Buddha. But the difference is that we will instantly interpret the actions and words(voice) as negative, hurtful, ill-mannered, unacceptable. These thoughts are negative/bad. The Buddha, on the other hand would not have any of such thoughts arising in him. Our reaction then would be anger and instantaneously most would retaliate. Some people will retaliate in words - e.g. by swearing -, this is negative/bad speech. Some people will retaliate in actions - e.g. by slapping or punching back. These would be negative/bad actions. Some will retaliate by hurling bad speech and actions.
This is why the Buddha does not need the man to ask for forgiveness. The Buddha did not have any thoughts that the man had insulted him.
Whereas for ordinary men, we would certainly have felt that we were insulted. This is when we seek from the transgressor forgiveness.
The reason why we think negatively is the cause of why we felt insulted. The cause of us thinking negatively is because we are unclean/contaminated/impure. The impurities are latent in us. They will arise in our thoughts when the condition is right - e.g. when someone swears at us.
In order to be better people, we need to "let go" of those bad thoughts as they arise. The longer we follow these bad thoughts, the angrier we get. It is precisely that we are unable to "let go", which make us seek apologies.
If we read the Tipitaka carefully, we will realise that not a single of the Buddha's disciples attained arahanthood until after they start practicing with the Buddha Himself. Likewise we need a great master similar to the Buddha, e.g. a maha-boddhisatta to teach us to become arahants. But such people are extremely hard to come by. As such, we just do our best by Good Actions, Good Speech, Good Thoughts, Good Mood/Happy, all to a sufficient extent. Meaning don't be bad, but also don't be too/overly good such that we end up hurting ourselves.
Good luck in your practice. Wishing you peace and happiness.

@@HaharuRecords Actually the Samma-Sambuddha is the most supreme being of His time. There can only be one Samma-Sambuddha present at one time. In this particular world cycle, there will arise 5 Samma-Sambuddhas. Siddhartha Gautama Buddha was the fourth. The last and fifth will be Metteya/Maitreya Buddha.
Samma-Sambuddhas are supreme beings. They have tremendous power. Most importantly they have utmost love, not just for mankind, but also for animals, ghosts, demons or Satan himself. Yes, the Buddha have love for all beings. And He knows how to deal with all beings. The Buddha will never hurt even Satan unless it is necessary. When I read about His love for even Satan, I was amazed. I was told to fight Satan in Christianity. But the Buddha's love says otherwise. That's when I started reading more about the Buddha's Dhamma. I am practicing full time for over 6 years in Thailand.

Buddha teach us , accept what comes and allow it to leave when it’s time. Do not attachment with everything even anger happy or heaven, because attachment is suffering

As you forgive, so shall you be forgiven. My unforgiveness is to cover my own feelings of guilt. To forgive myself and others will set me free.

Thank you very much for sharing this. Keep up the good work. Buddha doesn't forgive. Forgive is when you felt someone had wronged or offended you yet you choose to forgive him. Forgiveness is still an act sprouted from having self ego (though it's a noble act). The Buddha has no more ego. The Buddha can never be offended. Therefore, forgiveness doesnt even arise in the mind of Buddha. That's why he is Buddha.
