Buddha was an enlightened soul, in quest of his own growth and nirvana. He never believed in nor attempted to salvage people's souls. It is true that people thronged to see him and listen to him as he was the "Wise One". Enlightened beings do not go in search of people, devotees or to save anything or anybody. They are the Tathagata! People come wherever they are!
This story resonates more for me than another story with the same message. That actualization that regaining your belief in yourself is powerful. That we can reclaim it.

Now you are getting a real sense of reality "...who cares we all die in the end..." Yup. Nothing is eternal but ever changing. It is not the 'I' who started this conversation now. Hence there is no promised eternal life or paradise. What you have is this MOMENT and no one knows what will be next. Even though I was wished for hell by my own Christian tribe when I left, I lived in hell here on earth. Even though I have hardly any material wealth, or an excellent job to suite my qualifications I learnt to life happily with whatever means I have, without craving for more, trying my best and happily accepting whatever I get. Yup I do not need any fake saviours to take me to paradise, as this is my paradise talking to you, what more! Oh I feared for death and hell when I was a Christian, but no more, as it is inevitable and will face it one day and so you are. Be brave and move on, Buddha Dhamma is my vehicle.

Last week I sunk to the bottom of the river and lost the will to even swim. But Iast week has passed and I at least have my head above water now and am slowly rising back up.
