  • An accident during the Zaku III double review led to this unplanned video to walk us through how to repair a broken peg on a Gundam model with the help of a reinforcing metal rod. As with many tutorials here, this is for fans who may be less familiar with tools and terminologies so do be forgiving if this is all stuff you may already be quite skilled with.

    A trick is if you dont have a caliper, get a spare piece of plastic and bore one hole of each bit size unto the plastic. You can use those holes to test the closest size your dowell matches. This has the advantage of being an actual fit test. Although you might have to remake this guide every now and then as some of the holes may loosen up over time from all the testing.

    • @lenny_1369
      @lenny_1369 Před rokem +2

      for me i didnt have to boar a hole because i didnt have a drill, i just heated up a piece of broken tamtax piece and stuck it on the broken joint, after that i carefully heated up the piece again and melted a whole on through the crotch, when i was sure it was alligned properly i applied super glue and held it all for a few seconds, and voila!

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it will. With the metal rod inside, the joint has an incredible amount of strength. If you drill deeper, it'll get you even more strength at the cost of being a bit hard to stick the rod inside when you're gluing

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  Před 3 lety +1

      If it's not something really odd, then it's easier to just ask if a friend has an extra. If that's not possible, then it's possible to make one out of plastic plates and rod stock -- but you'd need another one of the polycap for measurements. Epoxy is very good against compression strength but isn't strong against expansion, so I imagine it might rip or crack

      Ah, super late reply, but if you mean you can't open the part to gain access to the peg like I did, then you'll need pliers to grip the peg. If that doesn't work, then you can drill the hole directly into the peg if you can, and then glue the metal rod stock into it and try pulling it out after it hardens (there's a risk the peg can tear and have a second break though)
