    I absolutely loved this video. Thank you! Yes, definitely adding it to my daily exercises. I have a question.I’m auditioning for a band next week. I’m working diligently on my breathing because that’s my weak spot. I’m singing “ Lovergirl by Teena Marie. There is a spoken phase that is six sentences long . She speaks the entire phase without taking a breath. I’m trying to take a good supporting breath in without tensing up my abdomen but, I keep running out of air on the last two lines. What am I doing wrong ? Help!🥴

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 2 lety +2

      Have a planned Catch Breath until you have built up enough stamina to make it through the phrase in 1 breath.

      OMG, thank you for the memories! These Eyes, 1969! I just played it! I haven’t thought of that song for ages. I played your other song which was not familiar to me. Great songs. Sure, lots of fast songs require catch breaths and good breath support if the have long lines and “big” notes.

    Can we catch breath after every phrase or can we do it in the middle of the phrase

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před rokem

      General rule: breathe where there is a period or comma in the sentence; certainly where there is a rest on the music; or else you breathe for style, as in expression.

  • @andrewnewell8217
    @andrewnewell8217 Před 2 lety

    (Gasp) A revelation! My first impression is that it’s harder to do this smoothly if the first word starts with a vowel. Could there be a reason for that?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 2 lety +1

      Sure! Many consonants can aid in vocal fold closure, whereas lots of singers will have breathy on weak onsets with a vowel or else go too far in the other direction with pressed onset. Make sure that you watch my video on onsets.

    1:55 dog pant
    5:15 this is a quick short breath so don’t need a lot
    You get what’s needed for the song
    4:45 catch breath needs to be connected to the phrase or else it sounds phony
    3:44 train body to take the catch breath spontaneously and 2nd nature while keeping throat open
    You don’t have time to slowly take in a full breath and prepare body for everything

  • @andrewstayne503
    @andrewstayne503 Před měsícem

    So I'm assuming this is just topping up with a quick breath as you don't have time to exhale all your breath.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před měsícem +1

      No, you should be at the end of your breath when you reach the end of each phrase. If you have breath left over and you breathe on top of that, it's called "stacking", which is a bad habit (and will make you tight). See my videos on how much air it really takes to sing.
