Hello!

Watch the whole video and don’t judge it based on the title. The title was meant to attract those who oppose legalization, so that they may be presented with ideas that counter their own.
Psych IRL yes, dishonesty is a fantastic way of proving what you say has merit
Georgeo read the top comment you idiot, they just wanted to help show that just because there are reasons that marijuana is BAD doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to keep it CRIMINALIZED.
Exactly! Before watching it, I was in disagreement. After watching the video, I love what they did. :) Not that I would want more clickbait type titles (I HATE those).
Welp, I am a supporter of legalization and was disappointed. Wanted to hear some opposing arguments from more or less reliable source to understand why marijuana stays illegal.
This videos points were trash. A gateway drug? Hah, more like the absence of weed causes people to go to other shit. They said it so wrong.
Wow that that's crazy...

If it’s a gateway drug, it only is because it’s illegal. Your local weed shop clerk isn’t gonna sell you crack, your illegal weed dealer might.
I grew up with pill junkies and crackheads, I smoked weed for half that time and have never touched any major shit
In Canada, I can only imagine the outcome if casual weed users and fentanyl users all got their drugs from the same shady source during this fentanyl crisis. I think legal weed has saved a lot of lives in that sense.
Too bad they didn't take the fentanyl itself, more dead addicts is a better society

I had extreme bipolar disorder. when i started smoking weed, my physical anger basically went away. I think it should be legalized however people need to stop thinking it's harmless. People become so reliant on it. I know multiple people who smoke weed all the time to the point it becomes a pain relief or if they haven't had any becomes annoyed and miserable. Plus the amount of people who come into the store looking and smelling disgusting, with an obvious dazed face isn't healthy, especially when it's everyday
It’s like alcohol without the built in repellant, since too much alcohol will give you a hangover and other symptoms. If weed had a built in repellant, people wouldn’t use it nearly as much
@@garrettcooper58 I think it’s intended for pain relief for that reason and not be used recreationally

That's not how it works in America. The only way to make drugs legal is with an incentive, either "companies get huge kickbacks and incentives to sell the drug" or "shitload of taxes". If that's what it takes then I agree, the government doesn't care about the health benefits.
We were not a very bad example. The US has always suffered more to drug use than Portugal. In 2017 the death rate due to drug use per million was 6 in Portugal and 185 in the US, the difference is massive
Fun explanation!
As a Taiwanese, I've been wonder why so many European countries and states in U.S. legalize the use of marijuana.
I thought it's just because they are too edgy. Till now I know there are some scientific research under it.

Statistics like “80% of people who smoke cigarettes before the age of 15 will use an illegal drug at some point” annoy me. Because, without clarification, it seems to point towards cigarettes as a gateway drug, when in fact you’re just sampling a rebellious group of people who break the law as youngsters in search of a buzz; it’s nothing to do with the substance. If cigarettes didn’t exist they’d still seek out rebellion/thrills.
I can definitely see the psychosis effect but for helping my ADHD weed slows me down and keeps me calm for the most part. I live in BC Canada so I have plenty of options for CBD dominant strains. Now that I’m 30, I don’t really care about getting high and prefer the medical side of the plant. Great video!
You are my future self, i just turned 20 and have been diagnosed with ADHD and using marijuana to help ease symptoms. I don't really care abt the high either, it feels like a medicine.
I have a similar story. Microdosing cannabis has helped me a lot for my anxiety and depression. I use a dry herb vaporizer and usually do one hit of sativa in the morning just before starting to work and one hit of a indica at night before going to bed and I no longer need my previous psychiatric meds. On a few occasions I get stoner as when hiking or partying with friends but that's not too often
@@bethskillings4992 microdosing indica strains might help you just one hit it's all I need to keep really focused. Some indica strains make me sleepy so I have to choose one that doesn't have that effect but still relaxes me Gorilla Glue No.5 is my favorite for that situation. It's really strong but since I only do one hit on a dry herb vaporizer that's more than enough

Hello from Alberta! :D
The title is correct. He stated the 3 reasons why it should stay illegal.
But offered counter points. Its just like an essay.
Sorin Noctis a difficult essay
A freaking college level essay! The question is: Undergraduate or graduate level?
Sorin Noctis yes if only everyone else applied this to their lives and their thinking the world would be a better place.
Sorin Noctis it's a shitty essay, all of his counter points were just as strong if not stronger than his original points.
It's a thesis.
The most dangerous thing about marijuana is getting caught with it

Or tripping while running with it.
Matthew speak for your own state
Yep
I cannot be unbiased about this. I recognize and support legitimate medical use. But with recreational use, all I've ever seen in my friends, family, coworkers is astonishing stupidity, wasted life, wasted days, wasted money.
I know alcohol is more immediately dangerous/toxic and I can say the same things about it. That doesn't make smoking weed smart. It's still damned stupid unless you're one of those practicing it under medical supervision.
I was suffering serious depression few years ago
And i was cured by marijuana by continuously consuming for about a year
Now i became joyful, confident and positive
And my life turns so much better

So the title was very horrible. and now it's just horrible. Huh, I guess it's going in the right direction.... It just needs one more change to be proper.
Well, no. The initial title was a contradiction to the video’s content. Now, it’s clear that they’re making points against the argument that marijuana should be illegal. However, there’ll inevitably be some people who’ll miss the “review” at the end of the title name.
The real question is why is weed illegal yet alcohol ain’t
Too many alcohol addicts consider watching the prohibition of alcohol in US. spoiler: it wasn't good
Weed is no where near as bad as cigarettes or alcohol. And neither cigarettes nor alcohol have medical benefits and applications. This video feels like it was made with a particular bias or agenda in mind.

True, I'm pretty sure ANYTHING that can provide joy can end up becoming addicting., whether it's weed, alcohol, coffee, candy, meat, exercising, sex etc.
That is obviously true, but you must admit something are much, much easier to get addicted to than others
@@alienduce6755 the real problem is people who claims that it's dangerous just because it's illegal without even doing any research, just making assumptions, and knowing nothing.
@@alienduce6755 It's not a political thing it's an age thing. Most older people condemn weed but alot of the younger generations that being 20s and down are all for weed. In 20 years weed will be legal all around mark my words
My cousin had been using marijuana for years, he was fine before “mentally” now he’s schizophrenic.
So, I believe in those studies suggesting marijuana induced psychosis.
So as an advise; don’t smoke weed legal or illegal.
Alcohol and cigarettes as many other harmful substances are legal but it doesn’t make them safe.
i also had a friend who developed extreme disassociation from weed smoking
But as the video suggests, it's usually due to childhood and trauma, maybe your mates smoked the way they did because of something that was fucking with them that they were unaware of.
I use marijuana to help with my chronic pain and depression, so I was afraid when I saw the title that this would be you saying negative things about marijuana. I’m glad you were able to stay neutral and that you gave objective facts about the health negatives and positives. The only complaint I have about the video is that you frame marijuana use as purely a smoking thing when you can take it via edibles or even drink it because you can make tea with it but still, that’s a minor complaint, and I would say the video overall is great at objectively, explaining the negatives and positives of using marijuana

Yes
I live in a US jurisdiction in which recreational marijuana is fully legal for adults over 21 years old, and medical use is legal for adults over 18. It's been about 5 years, and the worst thing that legalization has caused was annoying commercials for cannabis shops. I don't use it, just never got into it, but I can't see any legitimate reason it should be outlawed. All smoking is bad for your lungs, but it can't be worse than a short stroll through any of the big US rust belt cities.
It is refreshing to see a video that does not support one side or the other in the argument over the legalization of marijuana. This video has significant teaching value. The video was of high quality. Excellent explanation and engaging pictures.
basically: make weed legal, but be honest about what can be harmful about it
If it’s known to be at all harmful, why legalise it? Explain please.
P.s. DO NOT mention alcohol or cigarettes in the response, they have nothing to do with weed.
TaintedBrownjuice because it has more benefits (medical weed more than anything) than negative side effects. it can cure cancers, mental illnesses, seizers, etc. the biggest problems weed causes are lung problems and mental illnesses such as dissociation disorders and psychosis.
TaintedBrownjuice there are so many different strains of weed that make the body react in all different kinds of ways, and everyone reacts to all of them differently. so its rly trial and error hence be honest about the dangers it can bring and its all based on if the person is willing to take the risks or not. i think more research needs to be done on weed especially when it comes to pre existing mental illnesses and which strain and dosage is going to be most beneficial
TaintedBrownjuice weed has always been known for helping anxiety and dissociation disorders, but they can also bring anxiety and dissociation disorders. im all for legalizing recreational use of marijuana, although i really do think more research needs to be done regarding points ive made previously. by all means im not trying to change anyones mind i mean hell if you dont like weed simply for the fact it gave you dissociation disorders or psychosis, or anything, i dont blame anyone for being totally against it; but medical marijuana, at the very least, is extremely beneficial.
TaintedBrownjuice now, that being said i never mentioned alcohol or cigarettes, but i do think that is relevant to this topic being theyre both drugs and are both extremely harmful, even more deadly than marijuana. thats the only point id be bothered to bring up, but it definitely is relevant if you want to bring all legalized deadly drugs in this topic. sorry for so many replies lol i send them and realize i wanna say more

Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell good fuck this video
Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell is
I used to be very ''anti-drug'' when I was younger, especially in my teens. I'm canadian, and I was maybe 20? at the beginning of the legalization. By then, I had started to see it in a different way. While I don't want to try it, I eventually figured out that most people who are addicted aren't ''bad people'' for taking drugs, that most of them are people who suffer and just haven't found an healthier way to feel better, and that it's much better to offer them help than to punish them. Today, at almost 27 years old, I'm a social worker, and I feel like my classes really helped opening my mind about this. This is why education is so much more important than ''diabolizing drugs''.
I wish I can like this twice
1. In a free country, a person should be allowed to make their own health choices.
2. In a free country, if my actions don't hurt anyone else, you should not be allowed to vote to stop me.
My mom (licensed therapist) said it best: Weed isn’t the gateway drug, trauma is. Weed at some point isn’t enough, so people will find something stronger.
your mom is stoner
Or for people who smoke for the sensation, and not to heal trauma, tolerance is the gateway. This is what I have personally dealt with. As the years passed, I'd smoke more and more frequently, chasing the high. When a handful of bong bowls didn't do the trick, I moved to dabs. And eventually started experimenting with harder substances in hope that I would achieve those enhanced sensations. Weed wasn't doing it anymore. Little did I know (and many others I assume) frequent tolerance breaks helps tremendously. I do believe weed can be a gateway drug for the uninformed.
All drugs should be legalised. Also drugs have nothing to do with trauma. You think coke has anything to do with trauma? Idiot
It's all about mental strength. A weak minded person it wouldn't matter what drug they're taking it will never be enough until they are dead. A strong minded person wouldn't need drugs but if they do they're able to control and regulate themselves
I agree. I was against all drugs until I tried weed myself. It alleviated so much stress that I felt like I could think clearly for the first time. I dare say it opened my eyes. But yeah, the trauma is still there, it won't go away and I've been waiting for a therapist for over two years now. It's insane...

At 3:00 is my main issue. I love smoking to blunt the edge a bit, but given my limited choice when I speak with a dealer, I sometimes get weed that knocks me into the pillows for the next 2 hours, instead of giving me a smooth high I can jam on the piano to.

I live on a state with legal weed. When I buy from the dispensary I know what dose of THC I'm getting. A dime bag from my neighbor was always a mystery and sometimes an unpleasant one!

It's so incredible how well you define the argument, explaining in detail exactly why people are opposing it, without missing or neglecting facts, and yet still have the ability to debate against it in a logical and successful way. This is exactly how a debate should be handled. Great job as usual, Kuzgesagt.

Legal cannabis has made me happier, healthier and more stable. As a combat Veteran, it makes my crippling anxiety and migraines manageable. I love that my medicinal choices don't make me a criminal.
"Making marijuana legal doesn't mean endorsing it, it means taking responsibility for the risks it poses"
That's deep!
Yea but like 99% of marijuana users do not know any of the risks or downsides, they act as if it is a miracle cure to all ailments
Jackson H I mean you kind have to admit that cannabis has multiple medicinal purposes that make it a “miracle cure” especially when it’s been illegal for so long and people are just now starting to readapt.
Making something legal the only reason to do that is endorsing it.
joeblack it causes neurotransmitters imbalances, some people get chemically addicted to it, it can make certain health issues worse, it fucks up your lungs( if you smoke it), etc., i mean it isnt really a miracle cure, yea it might help treat a few things but that is it; and that doesnt change the fact it makes you slower, which is no longer just an assumption, we can, and have, shown that marijuana messes with your brain
joeblack also, some people get mental illness due to smoking it. It isnt a miracle cure, people like you are a part of the problem.
I like beans

Alcohol is more of a gateway drug than weed, change my mind
Every single pothead I ever talked to about this tried alcohol before they tried weed. Alcohol is the real gateway drug. And it's everywhere.
I agree. THC makes me even more focused on my problems lmfao
@@ImmortalCyrus then try to use that focus to work on fixing those problems if possible

I would agree that weed could be classed as a gateway drug to mushrooms, lsd and other psychedelics but what harm other than exploring the mind. If these drugs were also decriminalised they would become much safer due to better education and research about the substances

The Portugal case is really interesting, thanks for teaching about it.
PS: Where do all of these likes come from? I just repeated a sentence from the video without adding anything new.
Apparently many found it interesting also!
Smalde the Portugal this really isn’t that surprising. It’s the equivalent of making murder legal and claiming 0% of homicide rate. If the people are getting drugs in a safe environment, they will not die from overdose but they will not stop either. So really, it’s more about stopping the death toll rather than addressing the issue of drugs. Like giving everyone mental check up while still allowing anyone to buy guns.
hmmm so you don't like that its less of a problem now? +nizte nitze
Yeah safe environment, this is very important to eradicate the problem, where only addicts get a free shoot, we had those here in Amsterdam from mid 80's till now, as we had a big opioid problem in the city. Now the places are closing cuz there are no opioid addicts anymore. Heroin/opiod abuse is basically gone in the Netherlands.
Was just about to say this! If anyone is interested in an extremely in-depth analysis of one type of addiction (heroin addiction), Righteous Dopefiend is a great read. The work follows a group of heroin users for over 10 years--and finds that, unsurprisingly, most of their daily lives focuses on relieving their (sometimes lethal) withdrawal pain. In short, the addicts must funnel much of their time and resources into getting their next fix. In Switzerland in the 90s, however, addicts were given time to seek legal employment, housing, and overall stability in their lives allowing them to focus on treating their addiction. I think it's important to remember that nobody really wants to be addicted. To anything. If we give addicts the resources to overcome addiction, they... do just that. Who knew, right? Just thought I'd put this here for anyone interested in doing some further research!
Marihuana can do wonders for some people with specific mental health problems , but once you’re addicted to the stuff and keep coming back for more and stronger stuff , you got a real problem. I had a period in my life where I’d tend to isolate myself because I didn’t want to share my weed and liked to smoke an entire joint myself . Once I realized that just is a damaging way of using it I completely quit using marihuana and that choice brought me a lot of positive outcome in my life . Now I very rarely (twice a year) have a good chill out in the weekend with my close friends and we roll it up again . I hope all you people manage to use it wisely

*The* gateway drug is alcohol. By far most of the time when people are trying out drugs for the first time or trying a new drug, it's when they're *drunk*
Couldn't agree more I've turned down Coke MDMA etc every time Im stoned but if I'm drunk that's not quite the case
So trueeeee
i think jumping from legal drugs to illegal drugs is harder if you only drink and/or smoke. It´s a pure psychological factor. For Example if you smoke cannabis you maybe get less sceptic over illegal drugs. This doesn´t mean that exactly weed is the gateway drug i think taking any drug that is off the legal side gives you that effect.
Vlad sooo true
@@flowfrog101 I do agree with you. The problem is you have to add that whole explanation to give context so it doesn't seem like cannabis has some inherent feature that makes it more likely you do harder drugs. It's not just pure psychological factor though, but a combination of that and a legislative factor. The most socially acceptable illegal drug would always be the gateway drug.
But again, most people I know were drunk the first time they smoked weed.
the problem isn't whether or not marijuana is legal or not, the problem is we need to re-establish good homes for children to be raised in so they don't turn to substances to feel happy.
We need to teach people to be okay with themselves without substances.
can we appreciate how he shows us both sides?

Oh, hey Matt
I smoked weed for 16 years of my life since I was 16, I am 37 now. I am glad I quit. I personally saw a difference in my mental stability and physical energy. I feel though people have the right to do what they want to their own body. It should not be illegal, alcohol has far worse effects on you then marijuana and it’s legal.
How did it changed you though? I would like to know because i have yet felt any changes but i smoke a joint around 1 a month for a year
@@tekhoverskiff5070 No?
@@tekhoverskiff5070 Nah in a bit tho but what changes are supposed to happen?
Preach
@@maname_steve5745 One joint a month won't do anything to you my man. At least not if you weren't schizofrenic o psychotic to begin with.
Changes in behaviour and physical and mental activity (in average, healthy people) only occur to daily users. And even then they need to smoke for many years for those effects to become permanent, otherwise once you stop smoking daily you will return to your old self in a few weeks.
I say this because I've seen all kind of users around me:
-Smoked once in a long while and has stopped
-Smoked once in a long while and still does
-Smoked daily and has stopped
-Smoked daily and many joints a day and has stopped
-Smoked daily and many joints a day and still does
And the only one with really worrying effects was:
-Was depressive and psychotic to begin with and smoked daily and many joints a day
Edit: grammar
Psychosis is when people lose some contact with reality. This might involve seeing or hearing things that other people cannot see or hear (hallucinations) and believing things that are not actually true (delusions).

A lot of people didn't watch the video. They missed the parts where the video also explains why it might be a good thing to legalize marijuana. This video isn't pro marijuana or anti-marijuana, it only displays the logic behind criminalizing and legalizing illegal drugs. Most people might have also missed the conclusion in the video, which says that legalization and regulation of marijuana might be the best thing to do.
I missed that in the closing...
Yeah I also fell for the title, but since I knew this is a serious channel I wanted to give it a chance and I discovered that their opinion is the same as mine...
NormalPerson yeah they basically reversed all of their arguments to support marijuana becoming legal.
If they missed the conclusion they probably also missed the fact that that view in the end is only an opinion.
Of course it's pro marijuana. It's setting out it's motives in it's lede. It's 'reviewing' arguments. All I have to say is, many of my colleagues who are psychiatrists and psychologists have a very different take on this than the pot-smokers on the internet. I think more people who aren't potheads would be willing to legalise drugs IF by using any drug for any long term period that we are absolved from having to pay for your healthcare and welfare.
This guy's obviously never smoked weed.

I disagree with this point that prohibition of Marijuana has made iy more potent. Since its legalization in Canada I've found that THC percentages and the high have elevated significantly compared to the marijuana pre legalization
