    This is without doubt the best demonstration of how to fly an ultralight on youtube and I've looked around for weeks on end and can't believe I found this great video from 2012-Thankyou!

    As an ex light aircraft pilot, forced to take a break due to costs, I am about to re-train as a flex wing pilot and these training videos are excellent. Thank you!!

      Where can you get training to fly an ultralight or weight shift aircraft?

    I don't know why there's only 4,834 view of this video since April 2012. It makes microlight flying seem really attractive and (given suitable training, no doubt) achievable. You make it seem like its just like driving an automatic car... no doubt you have a few years of experience under your belt!

    Excellent, a great introduction to flexwing flying and I hope it gets more people interested in taking up our sport, you need to do all the exercises on vid.

    You should be a must watch for every fixed wing ppg beginner. Your demeanor is superb. Thank you for posting.. I have been debating between paratrike and fixed wing and you just made my decision for me.

    You have a very clear and relaxed way of explaining what’s going on, shame you’re so far away, thank you.

    Lovely! I was fortunate enough to take a short spin on the rear seat of a Pegasus XL once and absolutely loved it. I wish I could take up this sport.

    Me being a group A pilot, I must say your video inspired me to try a flex wing microlight... As everything was opposite, I found it a little peculiar, now that I have mastered the controls I've found the rest is just the same.... Circuit work radio,, etc,,,Thank you for making the time for the video,,, it has inspired me to covert, and am having loads of fun in the process... @ East Durham Microlights...

    Hi, I'm afraid the continued editing of these training videos are something I do in spare time when I'm not instructing, and the weather's just been too good!
    I will post updates to this video and details of others on my website when I have a finished product.
    Kind Regards,
    Dave.

    Nice video I tried to do a similar one, its on utube, but this one is better. My only comment is that I teach power controls descent and climb and bar speed - I demonstrate this and you can see it in video. If you keep the bar in the trim position(say 60mph in video) and add power the trike climbs at trim speed (60mph) and if power is taken off trike descends at trim speed - you can only make trike go faster by pulling bar back you then descend and have to add power to keep level

  • @rkwill100
    @rkwill100 Před 7 lety +1

    you have the effects of 'POWER' wrong. The correct effects are:
    The primary effect is height.
    The secondary effect is airspeed

    • @FunFlyingGlobal
      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 7 lety +1

      Erm.. No, I really haven't!
      The primary (1st) effect of an increase in power is that the aircraft airspeed increases. The aircraft will then pitch up and begin climbing (secondary effect). The airspeed will then return to HOT.
      This is exactly as described in the nppl syllabus, the bmaa instructor & examiner guide, and is clearly demonstrated in the video.

    • @rkwill100
      @rkwill100 Před 7 lety +1

      the momentary burst of air speed is trivial and soon (as you stated in your reply) disappears.
      However, the trike will continue to climb
      therefore, the major result of an increase in throttle is climb.
      The trivial, momentary side effects like an increase in air speed is secondary.

    • @FunFlyingGlobal
      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 7 lety +2

      Yes, the effect on airspeed is temporary, but the fact it exists is important for later exercises (particularly climbing & descending and advanced turns).
      If it helps you can substitute the words "primary" & "secondary" for "initial" & "further".
      I hope that clears things up.

    • @mcfly6161
      @mcfly6161 Před 4 lety

      Agree. This explanation is poor. Primary effect doesn’t mean first effect. It means the main effect. If you want to increase altitude you increase power. If you want to increase speed you decrease decrease AoA. It’s principles of flight 101. Pull the bar back increases speed, secondary effect is loss of altitude which is corrected by adding power. Not the other way around.

    Nice video man! Can't find anywhere that says if you need a PPL for these? Do you need any license? Obviously they'd require training but is there any legal requirements?

    • @FunFlyingGlobal
      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 6 lety

      Thanks. Licencing requirements vary depending on where you are in the world, but most countries require some form of licence. In the UK it's an NPPL or equivalent, in the US you generally need a sport pilot licence (other than for some lightweight single-seaters).

      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 6 lety +2

      Hi Kenny,
      I'm afraid I haven't had time to edit the footage for the entire syllabus. It's a project that's on the back burner for now unfortunately as I concentrate on aircraft sales (www.airplayaircraft.co.uk). If I do get any more training videos up it'll be on this channel!
      Kind Regards,
      Dave.

    I live in a coastal area which is windy most of the times. In how much wind it is good to fly these.

    • @FunFlyingGlobal
      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 5 lety +1

      It depends very much on the pilot skill level and the type of aircraft flown, but generally anything up to around 20mph winds are comfortable.

    What Gets you into a Stall flying one of these Flexwings???

    • @FunFlyingGlobal
      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 5 lety

      Same as any aircraft; increasing the angle of attack of the wing too far. The good news is that most microlights have very gentle stall behaviour and flexwings have no tendency to spin.

      Airplay Aviation (the makers of this video) are based at Sutton Meadows airfield, near Ely in Cambridgeshire. I would guess that East Durham Microlights are based at East Durham?

  • @Magnetis0101

    The title of this video is a bit misleading, This is a Pre-flight check test as you would do in a real plane

    • @FunFlyingGlobal
      @FunFlyingGlobal  Před 5 lety

      The pre-start and pre-flight mnemonics shown at the start of the video form part of exercise 4 of the nppl syllabus. Regardless of what type of aircraft you fly some form of safety checks are essential.

    Do not understand that there should be so damn much control meter for a 2-stroke engine or 4-stroke engine ??? ok oil pressure etc ,, since all other meters are 17 you should have time to check all of them so you can not leave the ground haha ..and you look upp thats the most importent kopling to the flyer, , and its ok and you dont know at all soo the ...ok...

      I did try as a passenger in Chiang Mai about ten years ago. Great fun!
