should i buy a 1997 kx 250 2 stroke for $800? it looks like it in good shape but need a new stator and kickstarter
@Fatal sorry for the late response but yea that wouldn’t be terrible if you could source the parts easy. Problem is most bikes have way more problems then meets the eye so I’d be careful.

Wassup! You do clean work!. Im trying to rewrap my 83 honda xr80 stator and the wire i pulled off is .75mm in diameter, does this sound correct? Someone told me i should be using size 27 wire but .75mm converts to size 21. Should i just order the size 21?
@Luis Gonzalez Unless your stator coil is aftermarket I’d get the closest wire diameter possible so if your wire is exactly .75mm then it looks like 21 gauge is your closest option at roughly .724mm. Make a few measurements because it can vary a bit. And when you go to buy wire look at the actual diameter not the gauge because it can vary quite a bit. Also don’t get inches and mm confused it’s easy to do. When getting wire get electrical grade wire with a high heat coating. But otherwise your right that the 21 gauge metric should be pretty close to your .75mm. Side note, Remington industries website has 21 gauge wire measured in inches at 0.0296 which is 0.752 in mm so it’s quite close also it’s heat rating is 311F 155C. Not saying 100% IT WILL work but it’s probably a good option.

@@twobuckaroos2483 hey i rewrapped my stator by hand lastnight took me 2 hours with multiple interruptions but its back on the bike and pushes 3 volts ac when i kick. But still not getting spark to the plug

Does it still run? Did you face any issues since today?

@thermodynamic transistor I’m certain that the gauge of wire used in outboards varies dramatically however your best bet would be measure how thick your wire is convert to gauge and then see if there is any available options for sale. And as far as if you should rewind? Only as a last resort. Buying a new coil is much much easier and possibly less expensive then rewinding.
You never told us what you did wrong?? Seems like you overwound it and just removed wire until it had the Ohms Kawasaki specifies??
I wound it to the manufacturer specified resistance window. Which is much more accurate and less painstaking then counting wraps.
Would you be interested in wrapping an lighting coil and also a charging coil from my boat motor. Im having trouble finding parts and im not skilled enough to rewrap it. Me and my son haven’t be able to fish bc of it. I also have pictures

@ Casey Carrier Ah yea it seems electrical parts get quite difficult to find at that age even aftermarket much less OEM. But if you absolutely have to rewrap it appears the wire isn’t super thin so that’s good
