Where did we go wrong, small cars such as these are all we need, day to day. Simple, easy to maintain and repair.

My first car! In 1976 I got it from my grandfather. It was a 1963 model. Feeling of freedom, frugal and easy to maintain. I drove it everywhere and anywhere. Didn't realized at that time that it was not made to be driven full speed all the time and should have taken better care of it. Was rear ended on the peripherique of Paris on a rainy Saturday evening. Repaired the car but the chassis suffered from the collision so had to get rid of it in the end. Found memories though. Miss it!

One of my great french uncles a farmer from Les Vosges bought one in 1965 and as he had no children throughout his life one of the first things he did was to remove the rear seats and hey presto his R4 became a mini van.He used it to transport produce to the local markets and he would also carry an enormous sow that he had fattened up into the region's forests to go truffle hunting. He was still running it til he sadly passed in 1987 but it didn't end there, the car was passed on to one of his fellow farmers a local wine producer who used it to drive around his vineyards mainly to collect grapes during the picking season. From what I've been told from family members the car survived til 2001 where it finished up in the breakers yard

Indeed it was our adventure vehicle in the early 1970's in Costa Rica! I have fond memories of my young and successful parents taking us to the beech house via a raft pulled by cables (to cross the Tárcoles river) in an improved trail! Over the mountains of the Pacific of Costa Rica! Ours was an R4L!

I think that beach bums and surfers in California would love this car.
This seafoam green color is perfect.

Californian surfer would have preferred the Citroen Mehari, a bit the same but made for the beach

I owned one in the late 70s. I loved it, in spite of the fact that, at only 8 years old, it was a complete rust bucket. Fun fact: All painted yellow, they are, even now, the standard taxi cab in Madagascar.

Despite the painful French pronunciation, this was a really entertaining, taking me back to my bright yellow 1990s R4 GTL. An adorable, perky little motor, whose flat luggage pan, accessed via that big tailgate, made it a superb shopping car. OK, they rotted in the end but what didn't back then? Even prestige cars weren't immune. Big manufacturers delayed anti-corrosion for decades, sticking with 'planned obsolescence' in the interests of new car sales.

These thigns were robust indeed! my mom owned one of these and let me tell you she really put it to the test. The only issue I remember is the shifter would break constantly!

When I got my driver's licence, they were still being built but totally obsolete. In the 1980s, most other cars had stopped rusting but the R4 still did. So I didn't buy one back then and don't understand the hype now...
