    You know what you're doing that's for sure. I've a bigger area to do and I'm DREADING it ! (I'm not as young as you) Can i ask you what side round you used the lawn lute ?
    The flatter side or the thinner one ? Whenever i use the thinner side i find it digs in and moves too much around creating unevenness. Really enjoy your videos

      Cheers!
      It's quite labour intensive when you get into it, especially if you've got a larger area! It can become a full day job sometimes!
      I always use the flatter end just because of hat you said, you don't have to have it digging in to the soil.

    Another great video buddy… just wondering and I’ve not tried it yet, but would you’ve pulled out more grass using the rake attachment on the scarifier and then. Going over again with the scarifier attachment. Like you say the dead grass will decompose, but will it give an instant thatch layer. I’m probably overthinking it… keep um coming bud. Very much enjoy them 👍

    Love your before and after results in all your videos so looking forward to the end results.
    Bit off the topic I am a bit of a novice also, if I have a mossy lawn which hasn't been scarified last season, if I scarify now or at any time do I then always have to reseed? I have a 200sqm lawn 😅

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Před 10 měsíci

      Cheers!
      It depends how harshly you've scarified. If you've ripped a lot out and it's looking bare, I would give it a heavy over seed. It's a big job, but as long as you do it once a year, the lawn will look great!

    How thick do you layer the topsoil for sowing seeds? My garden is about 42m2 and it is being recommended on the calculator that i have 9 ton bags to cover at 100mm. Cheers mate for any advice

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Před 2 měsíci

      Main aim if for the top 4 inches. The roots won't often go much lower. 9 ton bags will give you a very decent bed of soil though!

  • @VideoBaseie
    @VideoBaseie Před 11 měsíci

    I want to put down some stepping stone as a path to the cabin out the back. When in the process would you do this? Prior to reseeding or after the grass has fully started to grow?

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Před 10 měsíci

      Personally, I'd do it once the grass has come through because it will give the soil time to settle whilst the grass comes through.

    Would this still work without putting topsoil down? I have put glyphosate on my front and back lawns, all the grass is now dead, so going to scarify next, but can't really afford loads of top soil, so was just going to put new seed down, and cover with compost, but my concern is even though the grass is now dead from glyphosate, the roots are occupying the soil space, so would be no room for new seed to germinate and get space in the ground, what do you think? Thanks mate.

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It will work with just getting some new seed down with a top dressing. Shouldn't need to buy top soil if you do it that way 👍🏻

      @@NoviceGardener thanks mate, but I found that out already🤣🤣🤣🤣I sowed the seed last Sunday front and back, put a light coating of jack's magic over it, and just 6 days later it has all germinated and sprouting a good few mm already, probs in about another week it will be all green with no bare patches and ready for its first mow in about two to three weeks, before taking and seeding,I put my weed burner all over it, so it burnt away any remains of the dead grass and weeds, so was total brown soil then, before I seeded🥳🥳🥳🥳

I used Johnson's J Premier pitch seed with gromax, 100% p.r.g mix of five different cultivars, same seed used at loads of football grounds, so hoping for great results, and now totally weed free🥳🥳🥳🥳 keep up the great vids!!!

    Instead of killing the grass off with weedkiller, would it not of been better to hire a de turfer, then rotovate the soil

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Před 10 měsíci

      It would take up too much of the soil that's already there, but it could be done if you've already got quick a thick top soil layer that doesn't have too much clay.

  • @BRIAN-fi5ub
    @BRIAN-fi5ub Před 11 měsíci

    Better to burn killed off grass so to completely kill any remaining seed heads, these weed grass seeds will germinate even after roundup. Saying that, even if you do this, you will still import many weed seeds from new topsoil. POA will always win..
