This is quite an old show. It's Dec 2013. They're all grown up now in their early 20s. Their new stuff is great too. But if you want to see them being cute there are tons of pro shot concerts. Great reaction. I see you have had Legend 1997 explained ... earlier that year they had a Legend 1999 show celebrating Yui's and Moa's 14th birthdays, they had Legend S in December 2017 for Su's 20th and Legend M in July last year for Moa's 20th (they also played a couple of shows in Yokohama at the end of June that I'm almost sure were intended as legend Y for Yui's 20th, but she sadly left the band in October 2018 for undisclosed health reasons).
Legend 1997 was where the video for Gimme Chocolate was filmed, but that was earlier in the show before the live band came on so on the day they sang Gimme Chocolate with the guys dressed in skeleton suits (Babybones) miming the instrumentals to a backing track ... also the audio for the Gimme Chocolate video was not from the live recording, it was the studio audio.
'Gimme Chocolate' was the video that went viral and got them noticed most outside of Japan and a lot of that was to do with the WTF shock value it had - people who liked it passed it to friends, people who thought it was a joke also passed it to friends - it is very much a BABYMETAL song but it is also far from representative of how much more they do.
Su-metal is the lead singer, the whole idea for BABYMETAL was formed around her because even at a very young age her potential for singing to louder and faster music than the Jpop she had been doing was recognised by their producer (a lifelong metalhead more used to working with bands who found himself working in the Amuse Talent Agency kids division).
Yui and Moa provide backing vocals, harmonies and dance - and their choreo and their parts of the songs are intended to get the whole audience involved, they serve a vital role as the bridge between the band and the audience.
The live band are called the Kami Band (Kami means Spirit or God, so they are the Gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned to support BABYMETAL in the metal resistance against the Jpop Idol system which was drowning out all other musical genres ... it's lore, don't worry too much about that - but it also explains their burial robes and corpse face paint). They are among Japan's very best session musicians and can play anything.
The Kami Band first played in October 2012 - they played a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows. Legend 1997 was the last show where they played only the encores (5 songs at this show) and they have been the full time backing band in all BABYMETAL's live shows since early in 2014.
The Karate MV would be a good choice for your next song, but generally live is where they are at their best.

Just as Band Maid refers to their concerts as 'servings', BabyMetal often calls their concerts 'legend' of whatever. This one refers to lead singer Su-Metal and the year she was born (1997, and I feel so old). That serious look Su-Metal gets on her face, the so-called death stare, is actually the burning gaze of Alexander the Great, which seems to peer into your very soul. Queen Su has a couple other things in common with the mighty Macedonian conqueror. First, there is her self-avowed desire to conquer the world, albeit in her case through music. Then there is the story of a much earlier performance at Saitama Super Arena in 2008. Back then Su was the youngest member of a pop/idol trio called Keren Girl's. Having never played such a large venue before, the two older girls were naturally a bit nervous about it. Su on the other hand was so confident that she decided to take a nap before the show, and slept so soundly that someone had to go wake her. The first time I read this story it actually gave me a chill because there is an eerily similar story told about Alexander before the Battle of Gaugamela. It was then that I realized what is so special about Su-Metal. She possesses that intangible something that is the spark of greatness. And speaking of Band Maid, whenever people react to both Band Maid and BabyMetal, the conversation will eventually get around to comparing the two. I love them both but cannot compare them musically because they are two completely different entities. I can explain the difference between them though. Band Maid is simply the best rock band on the planet today. BabyMetal is something more, a state of mind, an unstoppable movement, and a force for good. It was BabyMetal that led me to Band Maid, and to Wagakki Band, and to Doll$Boxx, Sakura Gakuin, Sabaton, and the Hu Band.

But now that you seem acclimated to Jmusic...
Might I suggest some Touhou ?
It's not a rabbit hole. It's an effing rabbit universe!
-Touhou: It's a series of games, developed by a single man, who wanted a means to publish his music. The (videogame) music is so good that it inspired people into making bands and using the melodies and harmonies, but with real instruments and vocals, instead of synthesisers, as in-game -
It has every genre you may possibly want to. And that's not a hyperbole.
Search for "RD Sounds" and click the first playlist it will show (the one with 130+ songs on it). It's a band I'd recommend, for starters... Yeah one band, 130+ songs.
For more heavy stuff, go for "Yuyoyuppe". He's actually one the producers for BM. So you can't go wrong. "Secret Treasure" and "Vanished Truth" are ones from Touhou that I'd recommend.

I would STRONGLY recommend listening to Babymetal DEATH from this same concert, as it was a special version for the lead singers' birthday and is one of their heaviest/most different songs. (The reason it is legend 1997 is that it was the year Su was born). Regardless of all that, I hope you listen to more songs from them, because unlike Gimme Chocolate, which is their most gimmicky/jarring song, they have TONS of songs that would really appeal to fans of rock and metal. Perhaps another song you'd like I Rondo of Nightmare at Budokan with mischiefs of god intro.

Headbangeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr! Yes! This is like quintessential Babymetal, a Classic Babymetal, and a fan fav all at once!!! You won't find a fan that doesn't like this one! A lot of people have already answered your questions, but I'll give my few cents anyways...lol.
Firstly, as stated by many, Gimme Chocolate, while still managing to be a fav among many, is not representative of Babymetal!!!! This cannot be stressed enough. Babymetal have over 50 songs in the repertoire, and (with maybe 2-3 exceptions) they are all vastly different from each other. Not only do they do metal and pop, but they mix in many genres such as speed, prog, folk, nu-metal and many others. In their newest album, they've branched even further and have adopted cultural music from around the world! And while all that sounds like it'd be too much, they managed to do it brilliantly and produce a sound that is still immediately identifiable as Babymetal! The only thing you can expect with Babymetal is the unexpected!
For the Legend 1997 part, as many have said, its the year of lead vocalist Su-metal's birth, and this concert was so named in celebration of her 16th(?- might be 15th). There was another titled Legend 1999 for the other two, Yui and Moa. There have also been Legend(s) S & M for Su and Moa's 20th birthdays.
Live is definitely the way to go with Babymetal, as they are a performance act (they've said so about themselves). They have many "best live act" awards to prove so. They've also toured with and opened for many huge metal names like Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, ect. And they've performed with members of the bands above along with Dragonforce. Herman Li and Sam Totam (Tatom? Spelling??) even cowrote Road of Resistance and played the guitar on the studio track. They've also joined them on stage for it and Gimme Chocolate many times. And to add to that, they've performed with Rob Halford of Judas Priest...you should check out the AMPA Awards (2014 I think).
As for recommendations, any out of Karate, Megitsune, or Road of Resistance would be fan favs. For Karate and Megitsune the MVs are worth reacting to, but live is the only way for Road of Resistance. My personal current fav is Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro live at Budokan(venue) Black Night(concert title). This is one of their darker songs. Its about a girl running from an unknown "it" in a recurring nightmare. She tries to hide from "it", but it always finds her. Finally she accepts that she cannot escape and pleads for "it" to show itself, before falling to the darkness. As its a rondo, the song changes style and tempo a lot but always repeats the different melodies somehow. Its fast and hard, but also eerie and haunting! And its a Su solo!!!! She goes hard! And the intro really showcases the insane god like skills of the Kamiband!!! Its an amazing show!
Finally, if you keep going with Babymetal, you're bound to notice their signature hand sign. While very similar to the "devil horns" used for rock in general, it is actually a variation where the pads of the middle and ring finger are pressed against the pad of the thumb, and the pointer and pinkie remain extended. This creates the hand gesture of a fox in Japanese culture shadow play. When the producer showed the girls the horns, they mistook it for the fox sign and since the Fox God is a big part of their lore they ran with it lol!!!
Sorry for the wall of text! Kitsune up! \m/

      Death is absolute crap...
The live preformance is ok cuz it's 80% focused on the theatrical features of it all rather than the actual song.
The song is basically just smashing as many instruments as possible while repeating "Death, Deaht, Death".
Putting that in to a full show if a fantastic idea, the crucifiction is very emotionally charged, visually captivating and adds alot to the atmosphere and feel to the show but as a stand alone song it's absolute trash.

In the last álbum of Babymetal (Metal Galaxy 2019) they colab with Joakim Broden singer of Sabaton, Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy, a Thai rapper called F-Hero and others more, Corey Taylor said in some old interviews that he is a fan of Babymetal thanks to his son, thats why they appeared in Corey's new video and have the support of many great Metal artist around the World... Please react to more of them Babymetal Road of Resistance live in Japan is a great one the guitars of that song are from Dragonforce guitarists German Lee and Sam Totman they wrote the guitars and recorded them for the studio version of that song. 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻

There's a back story to the whole image, sort of like an Anime -- a Fox Goddess, 3 girl defenders; the 2 younger ones are sort of the mischief makers while the older one looks over them. It's a dark Japanese trip through Alice in Wonderland.

It great when they give Su a rocker like this one.
They have a new song called 'Kagerou' that has a similar feel.
They actually went on to perform two more songs that night, even though that looked like the finale.
'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!!!' was a bucket list song for me.
It was one of their earliest hits, but they didn't play it at all in 2018.
Fortunately I was able to finally hear it at the LA Forum concert in October last year.

Nakamoto Suzuka IS The Legend of 1997. This concert was in honor of her 16th Birthday. They do concerts in the summer for the other two girls, they're only two weeks apart in age. A lot of times they'll have Moa or Yui sing a verse of Headbanger in their birthday shows and Su will take their spot as a dancer. They can sing. Their voices have a nice sound but they don't have the raw power that Su has.
You only really see what Su can do in her solo songs. In the others she's doing at least some dancing and she doesn't have full breath. Most of the time she's singing at half power.

Yes, the crowd goes wild, all the time! It's kind of a synergy, BABYMETAL energizes the crowd, which energizes BABYMETAL in return, and so on... Also, it is intentional that most songs are written/designed to facilitate crowd interaction, it's kinda cultural, but it's also a smart move!
By the way, did you notice the big Pikachu in the crowd...? Along with the White T-shirt guy, he is one of the legendary fan! (As for the White T-shirt guy, you need more time.. lol... if you go down the fox hole, you'll see him, for sure... but you need to go fairly deep down that fox hole first...) Kitsune up, Po!

Makuhari Messe was the arena. I flew to Tokyo back in January to catch 2 of their concerts back to back (a weekend, each night had totally different songs). Sold out 50000 people both nights. The space is massive - 1,814,560 sq ft (what you saw in this concert is maybe 25% of the entire available arena)
The Kami band (guys playing) are world level talents.
The group as a whole is metal based, but they're experiemental. One song is pop metal, another is hip hop metal, others are EDM metal, etc.
The performances are very theatrical in nature. Its rare that a song is just played and people listen. Crowd involvement is huge, especially in Japan. People up front pay attention to the girls but people in the back just party while the band does their thing. All of their Japan concerts are huge, and their international concerts are smaller, so you can pick what you'd prefer if you want to attend.
1 thing to mention, buy a towel from their concert shop (before they sell out, because they always do), and bring a bottle of Gatorade. The entire floor is a mosh pit, and its all ages, including people in theirs 50s and 60s, white hair and all, head bangin'. You'll die without water.

The misconception of Gimme chocolate its that it's not a serious song but the it's very important issue with women. It tells the story of how woman like chocolate but society tells them that being skinny and un healthy is more attractive. This song tells that story of a girls first metal concert and what feeling she gets from witnessing the power of Heavy Metal.

Hmmm...there is some lore storyline on the background for Babymetal, about a Metal Resistance that tries to bring metal back from a world dominated by pop. So for them, every big arena concert is a battle, and from every battle a "legend" is born (and a Blu-ray that you can buy to make the manager Koba-metal happier). So Legend 1997 is the name of the Blu-ray release, that contains the concert Su-metal Seitansai (Su-metal Birthday) at Makuhari Messe convention hall on december 2013. Suzuka Nakamoto (the awesome and talented lead singer and performer) was born on december 1997, so there the name.
And yes, you reacted to Gimme Chocolate that is just a meme song that went viral in 2014 and made the band popular. The song it is ok, not one of their best, but in the end it's just a funny meme. Headbanger shows the real thing of what this band is about. If you continue going deeper into the foxhole you will discover how different and how good all the songs of this band are (and how talented everyone involved is!).

Headbanger is also a pun. In Japanese "ban-gurl" (band girl) refers to a female superfan of a music group (like groupie but more the pg13 variety). Head girl also refers to a female senpai in a school - basically the same phrase as in British schools. So "head ban-gurl" is the top superfan (and in this case of headbanging metal)
