    Absolutely love this from someone 11 years in the industry. Have a passion (because it isn't easy especially at the start), integrity is so important as potential clients will know, the biggest one is education. I always spent 1 third of my profits on education. It will pay you dividends. Being able to apply your skills to someone else is invaluable. It's easy to get yourself in shape. Being able to do it for a working mum with massive time restraints is hard. GREAT VIDEO

    Just some advice from a 100% introvert. It does not mean you cannot be outgoing and act happy all the time. It just means it's not your gut feeling to be that way so it's a bit harder. Everyone finds different things hard so it's a non issue imo.
    Obviously play to whatever strengths you have and work at your weakness.
    A lot of people think I'm an extrovert just because I can be that way but it takes me a good amount of time for the way I might be acting to feel real.

    This video has helped me ALOT. I’m new to being a PT, I personally keep beating myself up as I feel like I’m failing. But I feel positive and I need to keep going and accept that I’m going to fail now and again.

      Really glad it’s helped. The beginning of any new career can be overwhelming but it’s totally natural. If you take a step back it’s the least you’ll ever know about that career. As long as your humble, hard working and keep pushing to improve, the current concerns will feel so small in the future and bosses and clients alike will be understanding as they’ve been there themselves.
      All the best with it.

    What do gym/pt/classes employers look for on your cv? No ones done a good video on that.

    Hey nice video! If you become certified as a PT in the UK then do the qualifications count on other countries as well?
    Also, can a European citizen become a PT in the UK? Thanks.

    10-9 is a work day? Thats crazy. Are trainers allowed to stop creative work at 6? Im naturally an introvert and have asd. I do believe there are succesful quiet shy trainers in this creative field.

    • @careerinsights2430

      Hiya, the times Marks referencing are combined contract hours plus PT clients. So Marks shift may be 7-4pm but he then books clients from 4-9pm.
      We can’t speak for an entire industry but we know a few personal trainers and this isn’t uncommon.
      It’s obviously each PT’s decision.
      Totally agree on the introvert comment - Best of luck to you 👍

      Hi,
      I’ve spoken to Mark this morning and we’re going to do a combined video on salary. It’s probably a couple of weeks away so keep an eye out for it.
      I think PT is one of those roles that has a strong correlation of the effort you put in is what you get back.
      Some people love a secure 9-5pm with steady income and for others the idea of earning the same wage regardless of effort is a painful thought.
      I’m biased and lean towards the more effort you put in hopefully the more reward you get but I completely understand and respect both.
      Marks someone who has worked hard over the years to build up his clientele so that now over 90% of his income (Mark can correct me here) is self generated from clients he’s built up.
      He’s also built up his online business and added qualifications like nutrition to his expertise. So he’s able to diversify his clients and potentially increase his rates.
      Definitely when you’re starting out in the industry gyms will typically take a higher proportion of your PT income but as you build this up and start to train people outside of your gym and in your own time you’re obviously able to keep more of that income to yourself.
      Always try to look beyond starter salaries. It can be easy to google junior / graduate salary roles or average wages and be put off. When in reality you’ll be working towards going well beyond that.
      Passions a big thing & ultimately anyone with it will succeed more often than not and enjoy going to work.
      Remember we spend the majority of our lives at work so never underestimate how important it is to love what you do.
      From the whole process of starting career insights it really translates in the videos that anyone in the healthcare industry (or helping people) really love their job.

    How do you get clients?

    • @careerinsights2430
      @careerinsights2430  Před 4 lety +4

      Hi Zavier, a lot of it is organic from gyms Mark has worked at as well as venues he has spoken at.
      Once you have a number of clients again it is organic growth. Potential clients see you training other people so become inclined to approach you. Your clients also become great advocates and start recommending you to people.

      Career Insights total newbie here so correct me if I’m right. I’m sure one thing that also plays into getting clients is our bodies right ? The results we see on our selves will help us sell our services ? Someone told me this so I know I could be wrong but it makes sense

    • @careerinsights2430
      @careerinsights2430  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi, I don’t think it’s as straight forward as that. Mark often points to some of the most successful people in the industry ‘not looking the part’ (as such) and obviously a lot of professionals such as power lifters to the unaware observer may perceive them to be out of shape.
      My honest opinion is being a PT or a successful one (in terms of gaining clients) is a lot to do with personality.
      If you’re an infectious, outgoing and positive person you’re going to find it a lot easier to find clients and keep them.
      Compared to other careers it’s very one on one so your people skills are very important.
