It is rommel was accused by Hitler for delivering the freedom lugguage when it turns out it was actually Claus von Stauffenberg
Fun fact: in his book "Infantry Attacks", published in 1937, Rommel gives high praises to the Italian Army. He wrote, "nowadays the Italian Army is among the best in the world. It has a new spirit, and showed its high degree of training in the hard campaign against Abyssinia". He must have been so disappointed...
He still praised the italian soldiers, just not the commanders (which were the main reason the african campaign was lost)
@@Truth4thetrue I think this is a general rule during both World Wars. Soldiers were praised and commanders were blamed. I wonder how much accurate is such reasoning. Factor of enemy simply being more numerous and better equiped may be ommited too many times.

My favourite part about Rommel is when his division breached the Maginot line. They were so crazy with it they pierced so far into French territory. They lost radio contact with the other units. Meanshile the French are confused as hell because they're wondering why Panzers are this far in. Perhaps captured.
French revenge at the Battle of Bir Hakeim
A couple of years ago I read a book written by a former german radio operator. During the french campaign his unit was tasked to establish contact between Rommels division and high command. Whenever they got in range of his rear guard units and set up the long- range radio, they were already too far behind again as the division advanced too fast. Time and time again they failed to set up contact, following Rommel for several days.
Interestingly they didn't even meet a single french soldier, only confused civilians.
Small correction: They didn't lose radio contact, Rommel intentionally ignored orders to retreat, and then later claimed it was because he lost contact. He basically did the military equivalent of scrunching up paper during a phone call, and saying you're going through a tunnel lol

Rommel is a truly legend. Glory to the one of the greatest general ever
He's vastly overrated. He was a compulsive micro-manager, ignored the bigger picture and contrary to the myth, he was not part of the plot to assassinate Hitler.
Someone commented here that he was overrated and that he wasn't part of the plot to assassinate uh.. you know who.
I don't agree that he was overrated or a compulsive micromanager and such but the latter statement is true. He was implicated because the leaders of the uprising planned to name him as the next leader.

It takes more than one good general to win a war. The Germans were outnumbered literally everywhere they fought, so despite all of that, Rommel's track record was phenomenal.

it's kind of scary how much he was right in some stuff. Like if he actually got what he wanted with the whole D-Day invasion it would've probably ended in a different way, or just made the capture of the beach 2 times harder.
It would probably still have been fine. Despite the hype, D-Day wasn't really a contest. The initial landings went extremely smoothly given how difficult naval invasions are, it was only once the Allies got snarled up in the Bocage that things slowed down dramatically.
