When I first read in a magazine that a german channel (who airs fairy tale movies every christmas) was going to film „Allerleirauh", my absolute favourite fairy tale of all times, I was so excited. And they really did the story justice. I thought the movie was really good. They handled the problem with the incest (father wants to marry his own daughter) and the bullying (at first she gets bullied by the king and his friends) very well.
I definitely wanted to make a video about it so the fairy tales and the channel that films and airs them get more attention.
About the video: I think the song is perfect for those two. King Jakob who just doesn't realize that Allerleirauh and the beauty from the ball are on and the same. He has dust and he has gold, he just doesn't see the relation between it. And I think it is really strong of Allerleirauh to not just give in and reveal herself to the King right from the start. She loves him, but as a servant she is treated very badly, so at first he has to change his attitudes and manners and then they can become happy. I only focused on their relationship, because, bringing the scenes with her and her father in would have been too much and too sad.

Here is a small synopsis (from Wiki) about the fairy tale:
Allerleirauh (German "All-Kinds-of-Fur", sometimes translated as "Thousandfurs") is a fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm. Since the second edition published in 1819, it has been recorded as Tale no. 65.
A king promised his dying wife that he would not marry unless to a woman as beautiful as she was, and when he looked for a new wife, he realized that the only woman that would not break the promise was his own daughter.
The daughter tried to make the wedding impossible by asking for three dresses, one as golden as the sun, one as silver as the moon, and one as dazzling as the stars, and a mantle made from the fur of every kind of bird and animal in the kingdom. When her father provided them, she took them, with a gold ring, a gold spindle, and a gold reel, and ran from the castle the night before the wedding.
She slept in a forest of a neighbouring land where the local king hunted, and his dogs found her. She asked them to have pity on her and received a place in the kitchen, where she worked, and because she gave no name she was called "All-Kinds-of-Fur."
When the king held a ball, she sneaked out and went to it in her silver dress, and the king fell in love with her. The next morning, the cook set her to make soup for the king, and she put her golden ring in it. The king found it and questioned the cook and then All-Kinds-of-Fur, but she revealed nothing.
The next ball, she went dressed in her dress of stars and put the golden spindle in the soup, and again the king could discover nothing.
The third ball, she went in the golden dress, and the king slipped a golden ring on her finger without her noticing it and ordered that the last dance go longer than usual. She was not able to get away in time to change; she was only able to throw her fur mantle over her clothing before she had to cook the soup...
I'm so happy that this german fairytale is more reconized international!
It's my absolut favorite and the production was wonderful for this budget and it's more strict to the orignal text as lots of modern versions.
I recommend all the old fairytail movies like Aschenbrödel and others. The new ones aren't as classy and well played like the older ones and the requisites not that beautiful.
There is an adorable English TV version of this story called "Sapsorrow", which was a part of the 90s BBC series called The Storyteller. But this looks even more gorgeous! *SIGH* I wish I could speak German!

I totally forgot to comment. I was hiperventilating when I read the description. I haven't read The Grimm's version but in Poland we have are own fairytales and I read a very similar tale in Polish called the Dust Girl. The film looks gorgeous, once again I wish I could speak German. This story is a part of my childhood. Thanks for creating this beauty. Is there any chance you'll make a longer video with it? Please. I'm really happy watching this. Jacob is my type actually XD great song also.

I can't actually tell you when they air this fairytale, but it's actually free to watch, on "ARD Mediathek", if you search under Allerleirauh..
But they only have the movie in German, and with German subtitles, so I don't know how much this might help,..

In French it's Peau d'Ane- or "Donkey Skin". There is a beautiful film version with Catherine Deneuve.
So beautiful. Really, this must be the best film version of this fairytale I ever saw. And your video is absolutely fantastic.
Disney should be making new movies with stories like this instead of remaking their classics

Hannover in lower saxony it is ca 8 km from me house
King Georg V of Hannover made this neo gotic romantic palace as a present to his wife Queen Marie . Today 20.5.2013 on NDR TV this fairytale was again
