Can you do a dive into Nixon? It seems they were a branch of clan MacNeacail. I have a few theories how they got to the borderlands, but I cannot confirm any of them. I ama Nix/Nicks, but can only trace back to 1520. MacNicol clan society say their are a few ways they got to the borders. Likely either because of feuds on Lewis, and Skye, with Macleod or because they were sent by the chief to war with the English on the borders. Which would basically be the front lines then. When they got there it's possible their family seat in Cumberland was their spoils of war. It's likely they changed the spelling to be easier to spell in English. From what I've been told Gaelic was not a written language then, and so when they migrated South, and needed a name for rolls, it would just be spelled in an anglicized way out of convenience. Nicolson/Nickson/Nicksoun/Nixon/Nicks/Nix, etc, etc, etc. In my case of Nix/Nicks I think it was more out of convenience to oh, they're Nick's. As in they come from the Nicholas's. Named after the viking Nicholas. Mick, mack, nick. Interestingly tho, DNA evidence is looking like the sons of Nicholas weren't Norse. We are nearly all r1b at this point. The Macleod were the Norse. Our y-DNA is p-celt. Gaelic and Norse culture was known to be egalitarian. It's possible we are sons of Nicholas through mitochondrial lines. Our paternal line has been in Ireland, and Scotland since the Ice Age. Seems the Nixons were highlanders pictish or celt, and had no qualms with hooking up with the hottest of Anglo chicas as they moved around, trading, and working with Norse, Angles, etc. 😆
Others say they were from Strathclyde. How would people from Strathclyde get the name sons of Nikolaos without some connection to Clan MacNeacail tho?

Another brilliant video. I eagerly await these videos. Its interesting that you touched on the subject of the Border Reivers. Its a history that interests me. As here on Tyneside, Border reiver Clan names are extremely common. Names like Charlton, Johnstone, Armstrong, Eliot, Vietch, Henderson, Rutherford, Graham, Bell and many others are very common all across Tyneside, Wearside and the Wider N/E. During the early industrial revolution era, these familys probably came to work the mines, as their reiving days were over. Population was very sparse in the Northeast, since the time of the Harrying of the North by William the Conqueror around 1070. The population up here had been decimated. After that Scots from the Lowlands continuously settled in the N/E of England. After the Irish Famine of the 1840s, there was massive Irish immigration to Tyneside in Particular. Having lived in Gateshead all my life, I've come across litterally loads of individuals with Scottish or Irish surnames. Id easy say they make up 50% of the surnames here on Tyneside. I reckon most North East people will be of Gael origin. Many probably don't relise it. Will share this. 👍

My mother comes from clan Lamont. I have done quite a bit of family history. My grandfather Lamont could name his clan chiefs. They came from Skye. My 4th great grandfather, Murdoch Buie Lamont was born circa 1725 in Valtos, on the East side of the Isle of Skye, in the district of Trotternish. He was son of John Lamont, and John was noted to be living in Valtos in 1733.
Family historian William Dawson Lamont said of Murdoch Buie Lamont, that "he is said to have built boats and violins. He must have been an interesting character, as he joined the unofficial contingent which followed Bonnie Prince Charlie in the '45. This would place his birth at perhaps 1725, surely not later than 1730. The name of his wife is unknown, and we have no information of children other than Malcolm."
Murdoch's son Malcolm Lamont emigrated to Prince Edward Island in 1829, and he was accompanied by his nephew Murdoch Lamont, so we know for certain, that Murdoch Buie Lamont had at least one other son on Skye.
As for "Buie", Murdoch's middle name, this points to the probability that Buie was his mother's maiden name. If so, than she would no doubt have come from the Isle of Colonsay, where the name is common, being spelled in various different fashions, Bue, Buie, Bowie, etc.
In days gone by, it was traditional for Scottish boys to "Name their Chief". This meant memorizing by heart, the names of all their ancestors before them, and how they were related to their chief. Consequently, Murdoch Buie Lamont learned that he was son of John, son of Duncan, son of Donald, son of Murdoch, son of Duncan, son of Kenneth Lamont.
Fortunately for modern genealogy, this tradition was kept alive by the descendants of Murdoch Buie Lamont, and the descendants of the Lamonts who emigrated to the new world still know their ancestery by heart, even today."

And if you knew anything about your own Espania, then you would know how Ireland got their black Irish. Also where in my FIRST comment did I say i was Celtic??? 🤔🤨😠🤬

@roberto lang I can say that I'm God but it doesn't make it true. Why do you keep persisting that I said Celtic people have Viking DNA. I never said that. The two parts of my family that are Irish aren't Viking. You would know that if you actually fully read my first comment. Irish DNA also has roots in Spain and the Balkans. Therefore they are Celtic. People from Galiza, Asturias, and Breizh all came to Ireland a long time ago. DNA from Turkey and Arabia is also found in many Irish people too. I'm speaking about the insular Celts who are current and have nearly all the Celtic language speaking people, you're referring to the continental Celts who are nearly all extinct.
I still wonder where you're silly little Celtic temper tantrum came from? I never even mentioned the word Celtic until you came along. Whats your deal? I never said Celtic. Are you mental?

My Scots family history , to my knowledge, goes back to the 17th century. Swith intermarriage between purely Scottish people.

Were you mesmerized by driftwood as child? Do grey, miserable days have an certain feeling of comfort? Did you naturally love the wooly checkered blankets kept by your families for travelling? Do you despise pompous wealth and feel a common kinship to skeptical and practical people? Do grey waters attract you and yet still depress you? There is some truth to ancestral memory. If you're an American with a strong Scot lineage, make an English friend for the pure joy of the old rivalry. Also, reflect on who has mesmerized you on first sight. Many times there are telling trends! Take away no race nonsense from this, but note what strange consistencies have arisen in your life. It's a crazy world we live in!
Back to beauty; the lure of rivers, high hills and bogs. The temptation of shitty wet nights that tempt you to take a walk. The emptiness of lonely places that feel like they are spellbound or cursed. The defiant cold and heat of a good raincoat and a shitty outdoor chore.
Tap into the power of generations on this rock!
