      if you're a guard or someone who van handle the ball well, you probably do this without even noticing, I didn't even notice it until I watch this video, this would help beginners for sure..even us who uses it already, at least we can improve this technique more to be more effective on the court💯

    In tennis, we do what's called a "split step" for similar reasons. Never liked split stepping as a kid, but noticed I was doing the "lift" in basketball and then realized why it was important to do in tennis too (mainly increase max static friction & better explosion).

      It's also quite common in boxing, wrestling and volleyball or just any sport where quick bursts of motions are needed

    This is one of the rhythmic things which can disappear when you get nervous and tight. With it you can keep the defense guessing. Without it you don't move into any motion smoothly and the defense will see it quicker. Gotta have bounce to get the slight quickness to get apart from defenders.

    Changed my game immediately. I’ve worked all summer to get my handle right, and I’ve had good footwork but I never knew how to really create space. You can do so much with this movement. If you can read the defender and you see him about to jump ahead to cut you off, you can cross it over into a pull up, straight drive to the lane, and etc. game changer right here! Good video!

    💯💯💯 on point. Per the channel name, this breaks down the hesi into such an important detail. Understanding this and getting it down levels you your ballhandling up by so much, it's ridiculous. I used to call this "floating" and when I first noticed how much of a difference this made to my hesi, it changed my game so much. You get by defenders easier, you make reads better, you feel bouncier, and just feel better just in general. You LOOK and play like a natural and better ball handler in general. If you can master multiple moves out of this, you can get hella creative and effective.

    This may be the biggest ball handling secret of all time. I'm 42 years old, never had a great handle, and ever since I've incorporated this, I'm now getting to the hoop and open jumpers consistently.

    This happens for me naturally. I watched a different video on MJ’s “pocket dribble” and he did this a ton. Its alil different from a hang hesitation which you can do more upright and do a head fake for a shot. This here is more like to fake a drive in a certain situation. In my opinion the best way to guard this is to cut off the off hand and do a fake reach to get them the offensive player to do one last protect dribble to throw off their timing. That should get u back in position to either make a play on the ball, or stay tight enough to disrupt the gather when do start their layup. Every milli second counts. Last thing i would this is good to do on defense as well if your switching your top foot. I do that alot because most people attack the top foot. But if i keep changing they have to think more about their move. The whole time that dribble is live

    THIS is an amazing breakdown! I've been playing for decades and honestly learning this completely changed how I moved with the ball. Lifting/hesi/repositioning feet is a huge fundamental in dribbling that honestly nobody teaches. Great for putting this in so succinctly. You can make an ENTIRE series out of this (e.g.: Lift into a layup, lift into a jumper) and I would watch them ALL! Thanks again!

    They do this in tennis too,
    And you can do this off-ball when your about to receive a pass in the paint to give your self more options and explosiveness if you call for the ball when your in the air

    I started doing this last time when I was at the gym naturally.. it just feels right for movement, especially lateral movement. And you can fake like youre gonna go left or right with a crossover.. and allows you to get more explosion. I didn't know what to call it or search. guess "the lift" works

    Two important details are the pocket dribble and Drop Stance. I'd heard about the Drop Stance before but now that i'm preparing for a Camp where i'm gonna coach Ballhandling i can see that it is the foundation to all dribbling. Everything starts with a Drop Stance, the set ups vary and the reads vary depending on players and defense.

    many old-timers think that's a travel smh... At least in post-Soviet Union countries, so growing up in such env gives you lotta mental blocks not doing so, however it is indeed peculiar detail that changes the game a lot. Also adds some swag to your game if you feel the rhythm well)

      One workout won’t get you jumping higher. It’s a long, detailed process

    As a defender, it's really hard to keep yourself from getting lulled to sleep by the "lift". You see it all over these clips with pros even. What about some keys about how not to overreact to this type of move? What do the best defenders do against these hesi gods?

      Well, you can do a lift as well. Resetting your center of balance helps you change direction quicker in defense as well as offense.

      @@thanosmits1638 Fair, but if you're lifting in reaction, you're going to get read. That's what's happening in these clips. My sense is it's about reacting to position yourself or give different looks, but not overcommitting to give the offensive player an easy read.
