Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, who won a Tony Award for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" on Broadway and has also appeared in "Little Women," "The Drowsy Chaperone," "Shrek" and "Young Frankenstein" talks with Editor-in-Chief Paul Wontorek about her Broadway highs, early stage roles, her off-Broadway dramatic debut in "Trust" and preparing for the role of Reno Sweeney in the upcoming Broadway revival of "Anything Goes." - Zábava
In my opinion, Sutton Foster is the GREATEST Broadway actress from the 21st Century!!! She is an AMAZING talent (she has 2 Tony's to prove it) and she is so sweet and down to earth and I can't think of a Broadway actress from the 21st century who has done what she has done. Sutton you are a STAR. Period!
7:10 she mentioned the classic role she wanted to play is "Baker's wife" from "Into the Woods".
And now she did that in 2019
As much of a fan of Show People as I am, I didn't appreciate the fact that Paul said she became a Broadway star overnight. :( Sutton herself prides herself on being one of those girls that worked her way up through the system in a very "traditional" sort of way, through a tremendous amount of work, starting as a dancer in the back row and always improving her craft to get where she was. It's just not fair to frame it as if it was all luck and an "overnight" thing. It was in fact a life long journey of dedication and hard work.
I don't think he meant it as an insult. The reality is that many Broadway stars get "their big break" and become stars overnight in the sense that no one was all that familiar with their work before, and suddenly everyone is talking about them. That's certainly true for Sutton. She definitely worked her way up and paid her dues, but she had never had a huge leading role on Broadway until Millie, and she made SUCH a tremendous splash in that role that the entire Broadway community instantly fell in love.
That's just mainstream talk for being known to the mainstream. It's like how people said that Reese Witherspoon had 'made it big' with Legally Blonde even though she had already done a lot of great roles before that Elle Woods. He definitely did not mean it as an insult it was just a way of appealing to audiences like me who aren't as knowledgeable of Broadway.
Sutton is the sweetest!
She is seriously one of the most down to earth people one could ever met on Broadway.
She is not only THE triple threat of our generation, the biggest name broadway produced in the first decade of the 2000s, but she is also kind to her fans, and respectful to her co-stars.
Stop hating on her. It's really sad i know, not be able to be as half as good as her... but be reasonable. VERY few people can...
Don't hate on this girl. She's possibly one of the most sincere, sweet women in the theatre business right now. Wanna know what else? She went to my high school. we did millie about 7 years ago she dropped everything in new york and went to see the show. We did Little Women she did our curtain speech. Drowsy was done (me as kitty) and she did the opening speech. Doing Oklahoma this year. She was Ado Annie the first time my school did it. She's coming back to see. So don't hate on her. EVER.
Sutton is absolutely charming
She seems like such a genuine person. It would be awesome to be friends with her.
SO much hate...I met her and she was THE SWEETEST person. I was starstruck, completely speechless, and she was so nice and kind to everyone, she signed everything anyone wanted. You don't have to love her---everyone's got their preference. Just don't hate on the people who don't agree with you!!!
Sutton has the best facial expressions ever. She is such a lovely person. She is such an inspiration on so many levels.
I love Sutton Foster.
Paul, I am loving these things. Keep em coming
Sutton Foster is really one of the great ones; loved hearing about her past. I am very proud of her Georgia roots and just wish her continued success - she deserves it all.
Yes! I love that she's a Georgia (southern) peach! She rocks!
I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAW THOSE LITTLE CLIPS OF THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE I CANT BELIEVE THOSE EXIST AND I DONT HAVE ACCESS TO THEM IM FREAKIN OUT
Got to meet her after a local concert. She is just as sweet and personable as she is here. She chatted and signed the program from the show. I can't wait for "Anything Goes!"
Sutton's face on the Time Capsule question- PRICELESS!
She's so adorable
Buzz off trolls, she's amazing in every way
LadyBob Fishcake
Love, love, love her
i saw Anything Goes last night and Sutton was amazing
I'm sorry but how could you dislike this?
LMAO. she kept cracking me up the whole interview with her facial expressions. she's hilarious.
I love when she starts talking about Patti.(:
sutton i love you!
I love her.
why did someone dislike this video?? she is absolutely amazing!!!
Probably because they didn’t like it I am thinking
my thoughts exactly! thank you for agreeing :)
Sutton and her book club is the Liza Miller in her!
Her book club met on my birthday.....cool.
I think being awkward as a star makes you more down to earth so I don't think saying she's awkward is an insult
why are there 64 dislikes? D: oh my god you evil people
so true! it doesn't matter how good you are, if you are a pain to work with you won't get hired. This is also why they say be nice to the crew, because one day that stage hand will become a stage manager and he'll remember you being a bitch and he'll let the directors and producers know right away.
She said baker's wife! I would love her in that role! Too bad Hollywood is too dumb to cast her in the movie.
Omg I see her as Bakers Wife!!!!
@91LisaLou Too lovely, simply the best!!
I met her last week and she is most certainly NOT a bitch, she was the sweetest person I've ever met on Broadway!
i want to be in her book club!
her last performance of annie was on my birthday!haha well if those were the real dates, that it.
@Sarah3984 One of my friends/acquaintances is. I'm so jealous of him. He actually worked with her in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
@MrMyotheraccount Millie is not a revival but rather a remake of a movie. A revival is when you take a show that was already been on Broadway, and perform it again. "Anything Goes" was performed first by Ethel Mermen, then it was revived by Patti Lupone, and now this revival has Sutton Foster. I DID love her in Millie though!
i want to go to her book club.
How lovely is she!?!?
@Sarah3984 She is sooo nice and down to earth in person too! Such a sweetheart!
... I wanna be in a book club with Sutton Foster.
he was saying since millie not that millie was a revival bc before millie she did other revivals. just since 2002, she hasnt done any.
@btrumpetp She was really discovered when she took over the role of Millie, but she was in the business for about ten years before she got her big break.
And no, Millie was not a revival ... Anything Goes is going to be her first revival. :) (Well, if you don't count Les Mis, haha.)
@mmbr01nff No, she'll be her own performer and own what she's got. Which is something quite incredible, and that can't be denied. Not to say she's better than Merman and LuPone, because that's a matter of opinion. But why the need to compare them? It's immature. Are you saying that young performers should just give up their dreams now because they'll never be these legends? No. She's just like any performer, doing what she loves, and she happens to be good at it. Open your mind a little bit.
I'll be your baker!!! JUST PLEASE THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!
Welp, someone is clearly a tad jealous of Sutton. Now, here is my quick two cents: I don't understand how you can watch any part of this interview and NOT see her sincerity. I just...don't understand. Whether you think she can sing or act is one thing, but as a person, how can you undermine her? Shame on you and your time you are wasting on this and flagging everyone's comments as spam.
P.S. Don't even try - we WILL conquer you. That's how we do it on Broadway!
ahh! she's so beautiful!
is that zach braff at 6:58 ??? sure looks like him
I would KILL to see her as Baker's Wife
Thumbs up if you REALLY want to be in sutton's book club
@DveryOverratedSutton actually this week we are going to be discussing a book called "Cool People With CZcams Accounts" with characters like yourself and others. we will go into a deeper discussion with questions such as: why do they feel they need to reply to other people's innocent comments with such nastiness? why dedicate a username to someone they hate? perhaps they themselves are bitter failed performers still living at home? or just immature, belligerent people?
@sweet448 I want to be in her book club too! I would read more for her! haha
I'd KILL to see her as Mama Rose.
@golindsay91 *snort* Thanks for the laugh, golindsay91. I haven't heard a funny joke like that in a while.
I'm not a big reader...but I want to be in her book club. :) haha
"I'm really into polygamy". HAHA i lover her!
@DveryOverratedSutton you confuse me. who creates a youtube account hating on a performer who seems genuinely sweet? i just dont understand... and people dont win two tonys and get nominated for five by faking their way to the top.
In her prom picture she totes looks like a young Diane Lane!
i don't think susan blackwell would interview her if she wasn't awesome
@mmbr01rff
Theater professionals on Broadway disagree with you and agree with me, so I will continue to value their judgments above yours.
How on EARTH does this have 61 dislikes?! Treason! Blaspheme!
Sutton Foster, BE Baker's Wife.
probably he was in trust with her
OH GOD!... ok
is...she real??
she seems to perfect to be true
She stays away from her reviews. Smart. Reviews can break a person.
I hate all of this hate!! don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all..
if you don't like sutton foster why bother watching an interview with her. stop trying to cause an argument.
*cough* YOKO! ONO i didn't!
wtf is wrong with the dislikes? srsly haters, it's pathetic.
She is beautiful. Not really in this interview, but overall. My what a beautiful girl!
Hahah a lot awkward !
a lot awkward hahah
i wanna be in sutton's book club :)....... ha.... and yet im only 12
