A CHEAP vs EXPENSIVE PIZZA in LONDON!

  • My first pizza video on the channel. Now, I'll be honest... I do like pizza but it's not one of my favourite things to eat but as I haven't done a review like this on the channel so far, I thought it would be a good time to get one done and do a price comparison between two. How does an £8.50 pizza compare with a £26 pizza in Central London?

Olives are an aquired taste. I find. I really disliked them as a kid but can eat an entire dish of them now.

By the way, actually Italian pizza usually is purposefully covered in olive oil. It’s usually dripping. Never understood why people think that’s a bad sign for pizza.

Is it actually usually?! Have you considered the fact that the overwhelming majority of the world’s pizza eating populous are brought up on local variations and interpretations not native to Italy? Hi Gary, great review again 👍🏽
I was making sourdough pizza 15 years ago before it was a thing. I thoroughly researched the art of Neapolitan pizza making. I can tell you that both pizzas looked pretty good to me although the first one looked as close to authentic as you can get. Sadly like a lot of Italian food it gets bastardised here in the Uk. The crust and base of both looked spot on with just the right amount of charring and thin crispy base.
The first one margarita looked great cheese had melted into the sauce. 👍🏽
People are used to cheddar and Red Leicester which have no place on an authentic pizza. Also the amount of sauce looked just right if as you said it was properly made and full of flavour.
Price of the first one seemed a bit steep but as you said pizza is a lot of dough 😂👍🏽

Icco's for me, looked far more appetising. Homeslice, prices were outrageous. £24 for a full margherita!, the thinest pizza I've seen with a smear of tomato, invisible cheese, and a basil leaf. Looked like it'd cost them buttons to make, probably about a £20 profit margin on each one. That said, cos i don't mind paying for top scoff, it was their menu that really put me off. Nothing on it I liked the sound of, some weird combos. I mean, curried lamb pizza!!! And your second half looked like a field of grass. I don't want that much green on a pizza. Re the olives, i've always been a fan :)

Good to be said about the both really. Both looked freshly, well made.both was generous with toppings. The choice of the half and harf would be more appealing to me,just for that reason-best of both worlds. The salami, rocket and Parmesan is my second favourite type of pizza. Veggie pizza is my favourite. I would give the olives a miss.tried a few times over the years- just can’t like them and I’ve tried them in one of the best places in the world- Rhodes,Greece. Good point, when you divide it by two, it's not such a pricey pizza. I like this way of eating a restaurant pizza - choosing one between two, with two totally different toppings, makes the experience much more interesting.
I liked the look of that one, as personally I prefer a thin pizza. Some pizza arrives at the table way too thick and dough-ey for my taste. That makes the whole thing horribly filling - one slice and you're done!

Another great review, Gary, pizza is very subjective, a proper thin crust pizza with a nice crust around the edge, baked in a wood fire own,is very hard to beat. Been to Naples many times and always enjoy a few pizza's. Never been to Homeslice, we usually go to Eataly for pizza, but been to Icco, and it's fine for a pizza made in a gas oven and with ingredients which aren't top notch, ergo they can charge less. But that's my subjective point of view, of course. Keep up the fabulous work and speak to you soon, mate. Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Hi Gary and Mr Cameraman, Great comparison video i really do like these type.
Re my opinion, i wish i had taste vision as Pizza two was a hands down winner for me on price, looks and toppings alone.
When i saw the first pizza, the first thing that came to mind was it was plain looking, and wheres the cheese ? but i trust you fully on the taste side of things.
The second Pizza just looked so much better, and the cheese was very clearly there.
Im Northern so a bit tight, but im prepared to sacrifice a little taste when its ether £26 + service charge, compared to £8-95, as that's nearly £19 extra for the first Pizza, and that's a lot of money.

On first glance the second pizza looked better but you’re right - 2 could share the first one so price wise not a lot of difference, my only negative was I thought the margarita half looked boring - there looked to be some great choices on the menu tho. Well, that's interesting. I thought the first one was horribly over-priced but a 20" pizza is nearly 3 times the area of a 12" pizza (using pi * r-squared as the formula), which for me at least is very counter-intuitive. So they were both about the same price! Given that, number one wins.

    • @GaryEats
      @GaryEats  Před 7 měsíci +1

Comparing them by their diameter is misleading so I agree that by the time you calculate area, they are not that far off each other in price. The first one is definitely ideal for sharing.
