Heyo, this video is a bit different from the others but I hope you enjoy this video essay on Red Dead Redemption 2.
In this video I go through the lessons that this world and its characters have taught me, lessons that I think can resonate with all of us, whether we’re navigating the wild west or the modern world.

Hello there, I also made a video on Dutch Van Der Linde: czcams.com/video/0tkBQX1NbII/video.html
I learned that life is easier and more enjoyable when you say howdy to people.
Hahaha, that's a great learning 😄

RDR2 legit changed my life. It changed the way I see the world in a way. It inspired me to do good things and not expect anything, just spread good throughout this awful world.
My dad passed from cancer in March of 2018, he’d been fighting for 16 months. He never shared how he was feeling and but on a brave face. The story of Arthur I experienced later that year helped me understand what my dad was going through.
I'm sorry about your loss. But I'm glad the game helped you at least a little bit.
Man, i don't want to imagine, how you felt when Arthur's passed away.
March 2017 was when I lost my father to cancer those last 7 months were the closest we have ever been it’s kinda sad because up until then we weren’t too too close but we were still chilling but that time he had left he used to be with me and my mom knowing he didn’t have much left he told me he had 2-3 years before it got him but he was lying to save me the burden of knowing the loss coming early 2 years later my mother passed away I carry being stone cold but also having a heart I carry both of them with me still to this day
Same here man, I also thought that, when Arthur gets told he doesn't have long to live, I understood clearly how my dad felt when he was told he had weeks from blood cancer. All the best to you man, genuinely
RDR 2 is one of the very few games that managed to push me or made me feels that doing "good" things are more rewarding and satisfying than destroy everything in your path. Ofc, being bad in RDR 2 is also fun, experimenting how much the people and world around the player reacts to our bad deeds are interesting in it's own way. Gotta love character who try their best to be better than yesterday despite how flawed and imperfect they are
Well said 🙌
"I'm dying sister..." That was the expression of redemption, the best moment to me, so simple with birds singing in the background, and ambivalence feeling of happy and sad at the same time.
Def one of the most iconic moments in the story
Cyberpunk 2077 made me realize I don't wish to be dead, but Red Dead Redemption 2 made me understand that sometimes there's a greater good that we have to be willing to die for.
Well said ♥️
I don't know how this man only has 4k sub. This is was an incredible video and one of the most valuable channel on CZcams.
That's very sweet, thank you so much for the kind words ♥️
@@ViciousTNTKeep doing videos like these (they take time I know) and you’ll be well on your way to CZcams success. I’ve subbed.
i’m 100% with you, this might be the best video essay i’ve come across
Facts
I actually changed after playing this game
I actually started calling my friends boah
In what way?
And all you can do now is decide the man you want to be for the time you have left
Same
@@djoeke2675 As for myself, I started thinking like a leader and not a follower. I realized that good times don't last forever and to make the most of them while I can. I learned that the world is always changing, and so are the people in it. I learned of my own insignificance. I definitely changed after playing RDR2
This is a video to send to your parents who say that “video games are mindless and they dont teach you anything”. Perfect to prove a point.
Very well made ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
One thing I really love is channels that have very few subs that make long, incredibly well made videos. It really shows how you’re not doing this for profit or anything, you’re just doing it because you love making videos. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
My favorite song from rdr2 is "that's the way it is"
Don't make me emotional so early in the morning 😅 Arthur's last ride with that song is just pure 🔥
This game had a deep impact on me. It made me want to be a better person. It made me want to be a better husband, father, son, brother, and friend. It’s been five years and I’m doing better than I did before, but every once in a while I’m not the best.
Yesterday one of my uncles passed away and it hit me hard. This video just helped me feel better. Thank you, I hope you have a beautiful life.

"Ooga Booga, Today I will not be eaten 👹"
😅😅😅
My friend explained RDR2 to me like this, by the following experience of his cousin:
at the start of RDR2: Hell yeah! Cowboy time! Let‘s rob people!
at the end of RDR2: What is the meaning of life?
and I think that‘s pretty accurate
Haha, pretty accurate 😄
Really enjoyed that. I’ve always loved the fact that Arthur is not the main character of the story, even in his own mind, at first. He thinks he’s the, “second heavy from the left,” in Dutch’s gang and that’s it. As he grows into a better person he becomes the main character, even to himself, with a mission of importance that reaches beyond his own life, his desires and becomes about saving a family.
"Can You Learn Anything From a Game?"
We've grown enough to see games come from pure entertainment into novels that change our vision of the world.
Red Dead Redemption is one of them. Thanks, Rockstar.
And you, Vicious TNT. Your channel will grow, I promise that. I got this video in recommendations, so the progress is here. Don't stop.
So, yes. You truly CAN learn something from a game.
Thank you for the kind words ❤️
This was probably more moving than any piece of Media I’ve ever seen
That's very sweet of you to say, thank you 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the video ❤️
Even though I've never played the game, some of the points raised about the parallels between Arthur's struggle and real life really spoke to me
I'm glad you enjoyed the video ❤️ if you have the time, I recommend playing through it 😊
Really impressive. I think your writing and voice work are at their best so far. The video rises to inspirational and there’s a lot to take from it about life and relationships. Awesome stuff
Thank you, I was that sure about this one 😅
The last of us 2 taught me that games CAN make you plunge into a 3 day depression
Interesting, because RDR2 taught me that as well! 😂
i learned from rdr2 story that you can get betrayd by the close people that they are around you i mean like dutch did to arthur and the second thing is when you help people and give and make good things to people you will live and die like men
The most important thing I've taken away from my years of gaming is something I picked up in recent years.
You can't save everyone.
I think the reason i cried so much during red dead is because I relate so much to Arthur.
Like him, in my childhood I was always running to save a burning ship.
And thru being a people pleaser, much like Arthur.
I tried to keep the wrong people happy far to long, and I did things I am ashamed of because i couldn't say no to my peers, or i just didn't idk.
Now I'm trying to just be there for those who really matter, I could do better but I'm trying to be responsible and not fuck things up because I'm trying to play both sides.
Unlike Arthur tho, I am not dead.
I get a chance our beloved arthur rightly deserved, something to be grateful for.
Glad to hear you were able to change the direction and be in a much better spot now ❤️
i almost learned english from video games
you can learn anything from video games depends on you and the game you are playing
Same here, I originally picked up English through games as a kiddo
Me too buddy
friend: this is one of the most incredible videos / reflection pieces i’ve ever watched, and one of the best ways i’ve ever seen anyone successfully expand on the fact that video games are more than just “games”
thank you endlessly for creating this ♡ your mind is incredible. watching this has caused my love for red dead-and video games in general-to grow even bigger (which i never thought possible!)
keep this up, friend :) you’re gifted and doing great things for the gaming community, and those needing a little pick-me-up and some guidance
(you’re also helping keep the rdr2 love alive, so thank you so much for that alone lol)
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video to such extent 😊

Everything in this video is so well-put. You did an amazing job explaining all these statements in a simple yet interesting way. Glad I stumbled upon your channel
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
The past few Assassin’s Creed games have history tours that you can take about the real world at that time, I played one in Origins about ancient Egypt
Tell me, exactly how much did you retain from the game in comparison to how much you could learn actually studying Ancient Egyptian history?
Before even watching the video I instaliked and subbed cause I know this takes a lot of effort and also this sounds interesting af. 🤝🏻
Thank you 😊
I had to watch this video in three sittings, firstly because I was doing homework and I'd better enjoy a video with full attention later than essentially slow down my progress, secondly because I had to come back from my grandma's apartment, and thirdly because I went to cry to my bed
amazing video, I love this game and it really made me think a lot, I still haven't finished yet but I will hydrate myself for the ending
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ❤️
And have fun with the rest of the game 😊
Absolutely incredible video wow. Been playing games/consuming media all my life (films, tv shows etc) and nothing has made me think about life more than rdr2 it is an absolute masterpiece
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it ❤️
The music, the edit, the script....
This is an awesome video man!
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. I honestly wasn't sure about this one as it went in a different direction 😅
There a few games that can bring generations together or actually relate w/ the death from an illness or bad decisions as well as those regrets which haunt us until we die. If you have been told how long you have left to live etc. it truly changes you in one way or another ..the morality system is creepily accurate in some regards. When you know your dying.. its a funny thing
Beautiful video, as always.
Thank you for the kind words and for sticking around the channel 😊
Bro I really really hope you get to make a career out of this bro like this video really made me feel some typa way it made me rethink a lot of myself, I hope you get the recognition you deserve !!

I learned that god mode, unlimited ammo, and the goat mask is a vibe.
It definitely is a vibe 😄
Minecraft taught me alot as a kid honestly. Especially that glass is made from sand, that really shocked me.
damn only 8.8k views. you deserve way more this vid is great
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it 🙏
This is a great video and RDR2 has amazing story telling and vibes. I think many things can be learned from many different videogames, if only you let it. I find it a pity when people dont take games serious as a medium as they dont want to be open to the things a game can show as its unique medium.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
Funny that every time you're about to escape someone abusing you, they say you're no longer loyal. You can only ever be loyal to ideas, never people
Best video I’ve seen in months keep it up
That's very sweet, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
About the "second family" part - Arthur hasn't really chosen Dutch and the gang, but rather they chose him, since he was a 14 years old orphan when Dutch and Hosea picked him up and turned him into one of them. The story of Red Dead does show how people can change and outgrow the old bonds, being opened to creating new ones - just like Arthur and John that basically became brothers at the end. Moreover, Arthur helped John to escape the Dutch's cult-like narrative as well and realize that Abigail and Jack are the REAL family he got. The second one, actually - the one that would make John truly happy. Man, this game is something else...
Listen my favorite games are: red dead redemption, cyberpunk 2077, red dead redemption 2, five nights at freddy's, five nights at freddy's 2 & five nights at freddy's 3. And the game that has had the most impact on me was Red Dead Redemption 2, it changed me and really made me inspire to be like Arthur and I'm still trying to be like him and be better than my past self. Red Dead Redemption 2 provides you with countless fun, the best story in fiction and the best open world in gaming but it also leaves you with a life lesson not many games do that, and while red dead redemption 1 and cyberpunk also give valuable lessons on life they don't do it quite as well as red dead redemption 2.
this video has such an emotional impact on me needed that
I hope it was a good type of impact 😅
Really solid work 👍🏾 stunning video essay
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
A game usually has a story, and with every good story, you can take something from it.
Even from games without a story you can learn things, like coordination or organization. Do you know those bad MMOs? In some of them if you fail to upgrade your item, it will be destroyed. The mechanic is to make you buy things that prevents the losing of the item, but it also teach you that nothing in life is guaranteed and sometimes you have to take the L and start over.
The Algorith just recommended me your channel now im so hooked up on it KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MAN :)
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊

Underrated channel, great vid
Rdr2, Arthur what a character, it does make u think about stuff deeper
Btw suggestion maybe u should try making about God of War it has a lot of lessons aswell 😊
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
God of War is on the list to make a video, but most likely, the next one will be either on Fallout New Vegas or Helldivers 2, so it might take a while to release it.
@@ViciousTNT Yeah no worries take your time quality over quantity. Looking forward to Fallout, let it cook.
24:40 missed opportunity to put Dutch's legendary "We can't Fight change... We can't fight gravity" from RDR 1 (better version imo as it illustrates the importance of accepting change and hard truths) or 2 as a full piece, not just a background image at 28:20
Awesome vid btw, a really deep analysis of the value of this game and not just it's story. Worth showing your parents/grandparents/friends/kids who don't see the value games/movies/books *may* have
Good point, I used that cutscene for intro and outro in a video about Dutch, I could've used it here as well.

Weather or not you can gain wisdom doesn’t change the fact that you can perceive the characters actions in the game, and that you can learn from.
“Ooga buga today I will not be eaten” killed me😭😭😭
😅😅😅
Great video, bro.
Keep it up.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
They say real men cry to this game...
FYI, The Luddites weren’t just upset about their trade being automated by machines, they were also protesting the use child labor to run the machines. It was as much an argument against the exploitation of people, especially young people, that lead them to vandalize the machines.
I learned any heinous crimes can be redeemed by finding a very crowded town and showing some "manners"
😄😄😄
RDR2 changed my life and made me enjoy all the beautiful things that life offers
That's awesome 🙌
@@ViciousTNT 🙏😀💪
Rdr2 teaches you how to live, is a life leason about what matters, how to deal will lost, grief, what is important: family, love, friends, also morality, be good, and the acts of that.
I’m basically incapable of completing this game. I never want to start a Dutch mission, because I know that he is going to do something stupid and horrible. It’s so peaceful wandering the wilderness fishing, hunting, collecting, and helping strangers. I just want to keep the camp fed and peaceful. But Dutch ruins it.
This is one of the few games that has made me cry. The only one that's done it more is Last Of Us Part 1
Great game 🙌

Memento mori isnt about living in the moment. It was during medieval times and its supposed to mean for you not to be arrogant, egotistical ...Because you will die. But in renascence there is Carpe diem witch means Catch the day.

- Writing this lines I'm currently in the middle of your video. I paused to say: Very deep thoughts I can agree upon. That game is very good in translating the thoughts of Arthur (and John) to the player. In nearly all other games text is only exposition at best, in RDR2 there's emotion too in the mix. I played that game three times in a row and plan to do that again when my memories are washed away a little bit more than now. 😉
- 38:16 - "Love exists..." and do a loving act! ♥... 40:00 - There it is!!! I still was able to talk with the nun, that lines are burned into my brain!
- As I said the last time: Your videos are very well made! Here's my take on Arthur's love, a song about helping each other: czcams.com/video/tWCmS4yu4tY/video.html
Thank you, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video 😊
And the song is awesome, thanks for sharing 🙌

I love the 3 messages RDR2 says
Revenge is a fools game (Said by Arthur himself) edit: It was Dutch who said it my apologies
The sick are lucky because they *know* their path is coming to an end and have a chance to change (Arthur getting sick)
And never truly trust a man if you don't know him fully (Arthur watching Dutch take off his mask and show off his narcissistic nature)
The dialogue in this game is gold 🙌
Just realised I wrote "have a change to change"
😄
"Revenge is a fools' game" was said by Dutch off-screen and was just quoted by Arthur. A great message nonetheless
@@BLET_55artem55 I forgot about that, it actually builds Dutch's character even more by him being the one saying it, and slowly revealing himself as a narcissist and a hypocrite as he slowly realised that the gang was ending
Very good writing by the devs
What kind of philosophy is redemption
