Awesome video, thank you for the escape. As a Scot, I should point out that the really hard bread you tried with jam was actually a potato scone...and an overcooked one by the looks of it. They'll go like leather if you overdo it. Pro tip, if you ever end up with one like that, cover it in the beans and it'll soften up a bit. :)
I've never seen a tattie scone with jam, but I want to try it now haha
And the “salty ham” was Lorne or Square Sausage…my favorite! And the black pudding tastes like Chinese medicine because it’s made with blood. LOVE Scottish food…and I’m American. 😊
American, here. Thanks for identifying the bread, I was wondering. May decide to make it at home.
As a Scot myself, I can confirm this. Tattie scones and beans are the tits!!!
@cassermck it's surprising nice. Like MacDonalds fries dipped in the milkshake
30:55 The man on the moor is poetic.
Maybe the train was standard but what a view!!! Wow!!! 😮
Thanks for this glimpse of Scotland 🙏🙇
@30:56 That's one of the most striking shots I've ever seen on your channel...one person walking off into nowhere. Very cool.
Tip (03/25/24): See the end of the 1948 film, The Third Man.
Wow! I can't believe my favourite CZcams travel channel finally came to my city! And not only that, the place with the flag is where I work. What a thrill.
I live at Loch Lomond so it was lovely to see a tiny glimpse of it here, though the road along part of it is a little bit narrow!! I did this sleeper train almost 20 years ago, but I was in a seat, not sure I could do that these days! Our food is quite unfairly judged. Yes we do have bad food here, but we also have LOTS of amazing food! Your first station in the dark in the morning was my regular train station for work for a few years and is called Singer after the famous Singer sewing machines (there was a huge factory there for years). The middle of nowhere station is called Crianlarich and I've been stranded there a couple of times! 😂 The cracker was a tattie scone - a type of potato cake (I love them when they're fried). The salty ham was a Lorne sausage. Courrour station is the most remote station in the UK and has featured in a few movies. I would love to get off the train there and go explore around Corrour! I really want to know what you thought of haggis!!
I was surprised how dangerous that looked. Not the best road for a coach.
I'm going to loch Lomond for a wedding later in the year. Do you know the best way to get there for someone whose body is not that great? I was hoping I could take London city airport to Glasgow and then a bus but then I realised it doesn't go there. My budget was below 200 one way as I'm going Newcastle after... Well I wanted to until getting to this wedding was having me have to take out a mortgage !! 😅
@@selorm It would depend on the venue as the loch is pretty big with a few different villages that have venues, but Balloch is connected by train to Glasgow and there's a taxi rank next to the station, if that helps 🙂 If you're happy to let me know which venue it is I can help you figure out the best way to get there from Glasgow
I'm from the UK and i've watched lots of Caledonian sleeper train videos but this takes it to another level¡ 🎉
I'd like to try it once. Btw. my friends told me a way to get discounts on 𝔗𝔯𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔭𝔞𝔩
Sleeper trains are a different experience. I heard from my friends that there is a cheaper way to get train ticket.
Thank you for visiting the UK. I love all your Japan content and I love the respectful and kind comments you make on your journeys. You are a really good person. Thank you for visiting my home country, I am really pleased you are enjoying the UK.
I love the respectful and kind comments you make on your journeys... you forgot to add quirky and funny. I always get a chuckle out of the comments he makes on his videos.

This was a nice surprise, I’ve lived in the Scottish highlands all my life and I’ve never been on this sleeper train. This just makes me wanna do it even more
Do it even more? That implies you wanted to do it in the first place. You’ve lived there your entire life.
@@cwg73160it's a figure of speech. I can barely understand when they speak. And don't get me started on the Scots in New Zealand. Insufferable. (I mean indeciferable). Closed captions not optional. Thanks for splitting hairs! I could go on but you get my drift.
@@gregpendrey6711 It’s not a figure of speech. “It’s raining cats and dogs” is a figure of speech. They just don’t understand that adding “even more” changes the meaning of the sentence. They’re using it as an intensifier.
Most beautiful part of the world I’ve ever been to.
@@cwg73160why can't both those things be true? They've lived there their entire life and also just haven't been able to do it. I can say the same for many American train lines as an American. Cost and time has stopped me.
Oh my god Solo Solo you're in Britain! Welcome
Whoever was the chef that cooked your breakfast, I apologise on their behalf for cooking such an appalling meal. That is not the standard I would accept in first class train travel. As a chef myself I would have complained and probably gone to the kitchen to teach the chef how to cook properly. Thankyou for your kind words and yes, there are plenty of better cooks, who produce better meals, in Scotland and England. However, welcome to the UK, I hope you enjoy your holiday 😊
yup that Breakfast was pretty sad, my Teenage daughter could cook better than that. where's the butter for the toast?.
Come in my kitchen with that attitude and you'll be toast chum !
The red leaves were pickled cabbage. Usually served with stew/casserole but I guess meat is ok too. The nasty looking "cracker" was a potato 'scone', called different things throughout the uk but it's basically mashed potato, salt and flour mixed then flattened out and cooked on a griddle/flat plate. Love mine fried (after griddling) in bacon fat or grilled in a toaster and soaked with salted butter.
The traffic cone on the statue is such a Glaswegian thing to do. 😂
The cone on the Duke was missing for a while😱The whole city descended into chaos!
Compared to American Amtrak, this train looked heavenly! What a fun trip, thank you for sharing it with us!
Amtrak is a federally run embarrassment.
Couldnt agree more 😢
its a luxury train, thats why its so nice. Its wayyy to expensive tho
@@sebastianmineo1313 the caledonian is also operated by the government, just the scottish one, which is clearly more interested in good train service than some other ones
Welcome to Scotland and to my city. I hope you enjoy your stay and thank you for showing part of my country in all its glory. The terrible british food can be found if one looks hard enough for it, but it's pretty much a part of the past. And yes, your potato scone looked horribly overcooked. Whoever cooked that should be arrested! Ha ha. Love the channel, so it's great to have you here.
Glory be to the Great Creator of the landscape Beautiful video and wonderful explanation, thank you

Welcome to the U.K. 🇬🇧
I have been living in London for a few years, I always wanted to travel to Scotland but I can’t make up my mind. After watching this video, I have decided to go to Scotland this summer!!
I love your videos about Japan and thanks for making the U.K. episode. ❤
The last time I was in England, I travelled by train. and now my friend in Englandtold me that there’s a 5 %off discount for train🥲
When I first saw this Chanel , I couldn’t stop watching. It inspires me to go to the highlands. I will be there one day. Fan from Thailand. Thank you for your great journey. It always reminds me how great the trip was. Worth watching.
Great location and great video, thank you for the entertainment.
I'm amazed by how active you are and how you fully embrace life. Sending you lots of love.
Thank you for the videos. Whenever I feel down (which frankly is most of the time) I look to your videos for solace. There is always beauty in the way you cover things. So thank you again. Was wonderful to see Scotland. Hope you keep on traveling and discovering.
i really like and appreciate how mr solo solo is very kibda and polite and truly appreciative of what he experiences through travel.. like i think this man is very humble (despite the lavishness he does get from time to time) and i admire that
I love your humor. It makes your beautifully filmed travel videos extra delightful to watch. 🙂🫶
"The sink seems easy to use."
Thank goodness! I was very concerned.
Nice video. I’ve been to Scotland on a motorbike 🏍️ with a friend and we traveled from London to John O’Groats . It was the end of September and it was getting pretty chilly the further north we went. Magnificent views the whole way with very friendly people in the local towns. It was great to get off the beaten track and explore the little towns. ❤ Have a great weekend.
The first station you stopped at was Edinburgh Waverly. On your breakfast plate the ham thing was square sausage, that is traditionally made from beef. The triangular object is a tattie scone, which is savoury and best eaten with some square sausage and beans also on the fork. I live your videos and excited that you came to the UK
Very nicely pieced together, I've been scores of time to Glasgow but never could find to time pay attention to what you've shown in your journey.
Looking forward for your travels and your wonderful journeys more.
Grazie Mille Mio Fratello 😊
the cracker in your breakfast was a tattie scone, usually savoury and salty, sometimes hard, always delicious!
The black disk looks like black bread. It comes in a bean can and you open it with a can opener. It's good with butter. And canned underwood. My mom's granny straight from England raised her. So my mom had things like marmalade in our house growing up in the USA ID, WA too.
@@gregpendrey6711 In British cuisine, the black disc is called black pudding! It's a mix of suet, spices and blood. It's like a spiced blood sausage, it turns a lot of people off when they hear it but it's actually really tasty and a big part of Scottish/British breakfast!
Awesome as always
thanks for visiting england and scotland! Hope you enjoyed your time here. London during christmas is lovely
Thoroughly enjoyable as always and great to have you back with us in Britain!
I use to travel from England to Scotland and back again every month or so. Visiting my late grandad. From Birmingham to Glasgow. National Express!! It was very cheap, like £25 return! It was a long old trip but I got use to it. Now this, looks incredible. I'd have loved this. I honestly didn't even know anything about sleep trains! Superb.
Lovely. Beautiful. I await the next with great appreciation to you, dear Solo Solo san✌🤟
Thanks for the video! I grew up near Fort William, so was interesting to see familiar scenery. Hope you had a good trip! 😊🏴

Dude your videos brighten up our lives every single time! We live in Scotland so if you wanna hang and be shown around please let us know 🤙
Hey, I’m from the Scottish Highlands and have always wanted to go on the sleeper but it’s soooo expensive! 🏴
Also, that’s not a good representation of a full Scottish breakfast… and I’ve never seen anyone put jam on a tattie scone, must try that haha! 😂
hi! im from canada and have been looking to move to the scottish highlands, have you any tips for me?
Beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing.
Loved the video! Beautiful landscape!❤❤❤❤

Love it! I did almost this exact journey last year. Wasn't impressed with the train, but loved the breakfast views.
Everyone seems to think British food is bad, but it really isnt. it was nice to see you in the uk.
Loved it! I lived in the UK for a year in Malton. I never had an opportunity to see Scotland.

Thank you very much for the trip, I must say that there was not much luck with the food, however I took the same route, I stayed in a student residence in Edinburgh where every day there was a breakfast buffet that I will never forget, delicious and varied Scottish food. I went to Fort William and Loch Ness, July in all its splendor, I recommend it. Thank you from Spain. 🙏
thank you, this is interesting to watch
You had a great journey 😊
wow. big surprise you had for us. hope your have a safe good stay in England and Scotland.
Welcome to Scotland! I live in the Highlands and I'm delighted you loved my home! The station you woke up at was Edinburgh. The hard "bread" on the train was a potato scone (tattie scone we call it) and your not meant to have jam on it hahaha. It's meant to be soft not hard! Yours was overcooked! Glasgow is a beautiful city with amazing food. Hope you come back again and explore some more

The video is impeccably good
Welcome to the UK! As you now know, the comments about bad food are all lies. So pleased you visited, did you get to see the money? Scotland has it's own coins & notes (bills in US), they are the same value but don't bring them to England as no-one will accept them. I often visit St Pancras, it is where the trains to France & Belgium (under the sea) depart. The rail journey between Carlisle to Settle is well worth a visit too. Note, thin pizza are easier to eat using the cutlery provided! The sleeper trains are well known for cold showers, it is about time the problem is fixed. I see from the date on the Tesco bread you were here in November, (24/11). Looking forwards to next video.
There are very few countries that can match UK supermarkets.
Oh❣️So happy to see Platform 9-3/4❣️
Thank you so much for this vid - I thought I wasn't prepared for 40 minutes of YT'ing today, but you once again proved me wrong. I know these surroundings but from a long, long time ago; when there was still just British Rail. Must have been 1990. I went to Mallaig by train and I slept very nearby the station, illegally, in my tent. I was on an Interrail-ticket. Good memories.
Glasgow was the town that my nana grew up in, we still have most of our family their but when she was 9. She immigrated to Australia. Thanks for showing off my ancestors country of birth.
