For those unaware, the sand in the hammer is because it's a "dead blow" hammer.
These are designed to not bounce.
With a normal hammer, the impact of metal against metal would cause it to bounce up.
But with sand in a cavity in the head, after the hammer hits, the sand is forced forward and hits the back of the brass head, stopping it from bouncing.

Thanks for the tour through the toy store. I have a friend that could benefit from that truss rod kit. I have a truss rod wrench like yours but because of head stock truss rod pocket interference I opted to buy the Ekland 4 mm t handle truss rod wrench. The wrench shaft is narrower thus allowing me to properly engage my truss rod. I have a Jackson JS3 Spectra bass and a Ibanez SR 300EB bass.

Very informative. I'm a online jeweler who works for my wife. There is definitely some overlap in tools. One upgrade I cannot recommend more is a flex-shaft tool, similar to your dremel, but way better. It has a foot speed pedal which makes all the difference. The USA made Foredom SR is the industry standard. The 3/32 quick change handpiece is also invaluable. But it is about $400 with the pedal. New is a similar Eurotool one for under $125 at Armstrong Tool and Supply (not affiliated, but from my home state) which I also have and paired with a $30 Foredom foot controller (way better), it is a great deal! It comes with a jacobs handpiece, but also can use foredom handpieces!

And now, we "know your gear"! LOL I am very familiar with StewMac. When I converted my home shop from building and selling computers, to setup/repair/building guitars all of the specialized tools I bought from StewMac. I had most of the electrical items/tools, that helped. I also did a lot of woodworking, and I collect old tools, that helped too. There are still a couple bigger ticket items I have my eye on, but I have a really good start. Thanks for sharing Phil!! 8) --gary

For your stats- if you wonder why I click on your vids only for a few seconds then hit "like" and leave- it's because we watch your videos on our big screen tv. Sometimes later I'll hit the "like" on the laptop. We are late bloomers- retiree age- and both watch. I just did upgrades to my $99 Indio last weekend. Love your channel- always enjoyable- the best part is the random stories lol. Most recently the 10 minute story on Beato's guitar just so you could say "I was right" LOL. Love it. You need to get your other half on a video sometime. Oh yes- and husband bought me one of your t-shirts too.

Thanks for the video, I always like to see how others set up their work shops. I wanted a workshop to build and maintain guitars but live in an apartment so I put an old 4'x4' grow tent in the spare bedroom so I could build/work on guitars. It paid for itself in 2 weeks when I dropped a quart of stain that would have ruined the carpet. I also get ideas for what mods and tools I need or can use by watching you and other guitar channels. In closing, I just want to thank you for all the information you have shared over the years and look forward to seeing what's yet to come.

Cool video, I’m kind of a neat freak myself but you’ve got me beat. My big issue is all the damn sawdust with paint in it here lol, reds, blues, yellows… I need to shop vac all the dust out of it badly. Mine’s in my 2 car garage and not in my house so it’s sort of acceptable but after seeing yours I guess I need to do a deep cleaning here 🤣

Phil, something else worth mentioning if you are getting into guitar repair and setup are the books by Dan Erlewine at StewMac: "Guitar Player Repair Guide" & "How To Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great!" I have a copy of each and in addition Dan's videos, his books have been invaluable to me when it comes working on guitars.
