- We were lucky enough to get a once in a lifetime sneak peek walkthrough behind the scenes evacuation of the Haunted Mansion with the lights on in Walt Disney World. The ride broke down in the ballroom and gave us a great view of the Pepper's Ghost Effect. Hope you enjoy the video! What happened to break down Disney parks ride
I love how the cast members are profusely apologizing while every Disney nerd is thinking how this is a dream come true.

A lights on walkthrough of Haunted Mansion is the E ticket attraction! Talk about a once in a lifetime experience. Especially with the scenes still functioning. Is there any ride that you would want to do a walkthrough of more than Haunted Mansion?
The ghosts were like "screw the evacuation, we're just going to keep dancing!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Well they're already dead so it's not like they have to worry.
I could be that guy who gets r/woooshed, but I'm not gonna. Yes, the ghosts are dead serious on having a grand old time.
How to define obsession:
Vacationers get sad that the ride breaks down.
Doombuggy fans get excited beyond the moon that they're about to do a lights on walk through, and even the fastpasses at the end are trivial to what they just experienced.

So everyone got two free Fastpasses to ride anything except Peter Pan, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Meet Mickey. I'd be straight off to Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. Totally worth it.

Yeah except for the fact that this happened a half hour before closing if I recall. My brother and I had to run to space mountain to be able to use at least one fast pass.

Blake Baumert guest relations could’ve helped you out. Take the time to stop and ask if they can extend it to another day.
@@WickedlyMe328 I didn't mean to sound as though I was complaining. The cast members did a tremendous job in escorting everyone off the ride and explaining the situation. With the amount of people they had to get off the ride I can only imagine how frantic that must have been for them.
Plus, I got to use both my fastpasses in that limited time frame so even better!
The center of the ballroom scene was a pretty good spot to stop.
Wonder would have happened if they showed everyone how they did the ghosts, because I know how they do

@@StarportS Many people have an idea about how this is achieved, but most would prefer not to have the illusion ruined. It's called "willing suspension of disbelief."
Williamations we know too. It’s an illusion that’s at least 100 years old and extremely simple.
square kara honestly it’s a thing I know how it works but I am happy not seeing exactly how because then instead of picturing this amazing scene I’ll see how it’s actually being done. Though I am sure my imagination has got a pretty clear picture it’s not legit therefore I don’t feel like I’ve ruined anything for myself.

Happens a lot actually. Most of the time it is dropped cellphones, bags, shoes, clothing attire, you name it. If the sensors pick up anything on or near the track the ride stops and the castmembers have to do a complete walkthrough and run it for 30 minutes before guests are allowed back on.
Or someone scattered their loved one's ashes and now people have to scoop that up

One time they had to stop the ride because some guest tried to steal Madame Leota’s crystal ball.

@@bassmandan9484 Been there!!! Sat on the track for awhile and once they got it going, went through the rest of the ride slowly, lights on. We got really lucky because they fixed whatever the problem was so when we got to the end we were told to stay put and ride again. It was awesome. Worth the time for sure

Every time I go down that part I hope the ride stops. It'd be a great nap opportunity.
At 9:30 what's really amazing to see is how much actual empty space is behind the "doom buggies" as they're entering the ballroom scene. You would never ever see this otherwise. I'm pretty sure that extra space, directly below the evacuating guests, is what's housing all of the actual props and turn tables and hardware to start the Pepper's Ghost effect in the show scene.
YES, there are manequins/animatronics above and below you on the ride! and im sure all the space behind you is for getting people out. Ud think ur pinned to a wall!!!

It’s probably a lot of open space so when people do have to evacuate they are far from anything that can hurt them so they are safe

As soon as they start hiring again, go for it! Probably don't get your pick of jobs, but eventually (with good behavior), who knows?

I’ve gotten evacuated off the Millenium Falcon. Best feeling ever.
Kirsten Jeter we got evacuated off Pirates. The kids behind us lost their minds getting off the boats but then, once off, there were a lot of ways to get out of the building pretty quickly.
So glad they didn’t keep singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall

Even scarier than the Haunted Mansion is having to hear a group of teenagers start singing 99 Bottles of Beer.

In Disneyland I got stuck at:
The bolder scene in Indiana Jones and had to walk off after 1 hour
Stuck on it’s a small world for 10 minutes (my favorite ride but my hubby wasn’t so happy)
The increda coaster (walked off after 45 minutes)
Saw someone throw up in the middle of the hallway scene at the haunted mansion (guest was drunk. They called someone to put the powder down to clump it up)
Pirates of the Caribbean waterfall (stuck for 25 minutes about to go up it)
Jungle Cruise, the boat I was on lost power so another skipper brought another boat (on the side because the main boats are on a track) and took us the docking area.
All of these didn’t happen the same day (thank god)!
I hope I get stuck on Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion (my 2nd favorite ride).
We got stuck on Pinocchio in DL. All the lights on made the room look like an industrial metal building. Had to side step the track and walk out.
@@bunnymomjulie6719 Had that happen on the same ride, same park, but by then we were practically at the ride unload. They just unlocked the bars on our cart and helped us out, walked a few steps to the unload gate. It turned out someone’s t-shirt had fallen into the track. I saw them pull it out, all covered in oil.
Have ridden that ride multiple times. It's nice to see what you can't see when the ride is operating and the lights are out. It's also nice to know that the emergency escape is a regular walkway and not a catwalk with ladders.
Years ago my family and I got stuck for about 20 minutes in Its a Small World.......Omg!!! That song for 20 minutes 😵

I got stuck on Pirates of The Caribbean once... Yo ho, yo ho... for 45 min.
It's pretty cool how they give everyone a free fastpass to almost every ride.
I had no idea there was actually room to even walk beside the doom buggies.
I would gladly take a churro and a Coke instead of 2 fast passes
FANTASTIC!!! I can't believe you have to walk all the way back through the whole ride. You'd think they'd have "secret passages."
Late to the comment party, but catwalks are "secret passageways" often used by maintenance personnel. Having a patron of the park use them is often dangerous and difficult, especially if someone has a mobility disability.
As someone who loves to work behind the scenes, I was amazed with what you don’t get to see on the ride as well as how employees compensate customers for the i convenience.
I work at a theme park in Missouri on the train and it is difficult to compensate them with courtesy passes when there’s 200 of them getting off at one time. Great video!
What a treat! I got stuck on Splash Mountain, just after the drop. If it had happened a few seconds earlier, we would have been stuck at the top. That would have been stressful. When we got escorted off, we went past some of the animatronics, and into a large indoor area with a ton of stairs leading us through water pipes and machinery. Got fast passes afterwards, but that was just a bonus.

I'm working under an attraction ride, and for getting an evacuation time is 1 out of 10. The need of evacuation is only if the ride techinal issue can't be fix or there is a fire alarm occurs.

@@BabyZoeStar There's a video of a fire evacuation on Flight of Passage, but when the guests who are already aware of the evacuation are telling other guests of it and asking them to leave to help cast members the other guests think they're joking. They soon realised when the fire alarm was suddenly sounding.

@@gembo871 Someone did that on Big Thunder Mountain and stood up to get it. They caused a ride evacuation as they couldn’t restart the ride
About 5 years ago we got stuck at the very top of Spaceship Earth and had to walk down.
I got evacuated off of Pirates of the Caribbean last June and got three fastpasses. Interesting that you only got two. I wonder if it’s based off of how much time guests are waiting to get off the ride. The Pirates exit takes you through some backstage areas - very cool to see! We saw some of the Boo to You parade floats while passing by.
Years ago my friend and I were stuck on The Pirates Of The Caribbean ride when they sent out too many boats at one time. We started colliding into each other when we got stuck. They came out in big wading boots and tried to push the boats loose. It wasnt working until someone on our boat said that maybe if we all lean to one side it will loosen and thats exactly what happened. Then the other boats were loosened and we just traveled along our way.

Plot twist: Disney randomly plans a ride “breakdown” simply to give a very select few a thrill of seeing what goes on behind the scenes of their favorite rides.

I’ve never experienced something like this, but my friend and I did get stuck on Haunted Mansion in the graveyard. We were stuck in an eternal loop of those gross heads popping up until the ride started back up again.
Just hearing the gears spinning from the dancing ghost animatronics below is SO cool. Makes you really appreciate how much they do to build the atmospheres in the attraction.
It’s really cool to see the huge sheet of glass for the peppers ghost effect.

ugh god imagine getting stuck in the hallway with the knocking doors? as cool as the rest of the in-show exit would be, i think i'd go insane having to listen to "KNOCK knock-knock knock knock-KNOCK" for 10 minutes straight.
This had to been a amazing experience any big Disney fan would have love to been in your shoes on evacuation of the Haunted Mansion it's such a classic.

I heard from someone who said their Cast Member friend said many shut downs are from people being seen spreading family member ashes on the ride. They shut it down then vacuum them all up. Sorta explains the haunted stories they tell plus all the shut downs because it happens a lot.

Yeah. Don’t spread family member ashes on the ride. For one, it’s terrible to end up getting vacuumed up, two, it would be INSANELY creepy to see someone’s actual ashes on the ride and they don’t want that; three, it’s a pain to vacuum up. Four, it’s actually quite disrespectful to the ride and the park and you can get yourself kicked out for doing it. Five and finally, it’s also disrespectful to the family member and their ashes.
I get someone wants to “add” to the 999 ghosts, but never do it. It’s a terrible idea. People have also did it all over Disney’s parks. I suppose they wanted to be buried there but that’s just not how it works.
Depends what you mean by a lot... We don’t evacuate the ride for that but we will stop people from coming in while clean up happens.
When I first started watching this video, I thought it was filmed at the haunted mansion in Disneyland in California. It wasn’t until I saw the part with the staircases going off in an Escher-like fashion that I realized it was the mansion in Walt Disney World in Florida! Love the haunted mansion ride! This truly is a dream come true to be able to walk through the ride as extensively as these people did! Incidentally, when I was riding the mansion in Disneyland in California, the ride stopped just as we were on the balcony overlooking the grand ballroom. It was only stopped for a few minutes, but I totally lucked out by being in that position at the time when it stopped. Got to take in the ballroom scene for a few minutes, and the work lights stayed off, too!

Never seen the lights on! Now I see where the purple wallpaper came from!! It always looked black to me cause the ride was so dark, my mind is so blown!
i got stuck on the HM at disneyland when i was a kid, right under the screaming raven in the tree. 20 minutes later, i was insane. what would be great is if they made some additional animation for when the ride stops, and the dancing couples stop, look up at you, and then start coming upstairs to get you.
That’s cool to see it like that. I would’ve never known all of that was behind the ballroom I thought there was just a wall behind your doom buggy. They just let you record? Or they didn’t know you were. Usually I see videos where the cast members are telling people to turn off their phones

I never knew the walls were purple... the haunted mansion merch now makes sense!
I love the Pepper's Ghost Effect. That's like one of THEE BEST effects ever! And I love Disney's Haunted Mansion ride. I'd been to Disney World once and that only time was really cool cause I got to ride it. I love how the cast members were definitely apologetic for the ride breaking down and all, even though it wasn't their fault. Accidents DO happen as well as unforeseen mechanical issues.

Very interesting -- I did note that Madame Leota is displayed differently from when I first rode back in 1972. Back then, the 'crystal ball' sat on a stand on the table...
Yep! In 2007, they updated the scene to have her floating! It actually moves around when the ride is fully operational, making for a really cool levitating effect!
