It always felt appropriate that the rivals' ace monsters are always 500 ATK higher than the protags', since rivals like Kaiba and Jack are focused on the overwhelming power of those monsters while Yugi and Yusei use their skill and wits to outmaneuver them with their weaker monsters.
Heck Stardust and RDA are easily the best rival aces in the series because if RDA attacks it wins, but if RDA activates either of it's destruction effects then Stardust wins, making the dynamic lot better than just stalling around until the protagonist pulls the "I win" card like with most cases.
Heck, almost all of the protag monsters have 2500 ATK, except Decode Talker which is 2300 ATK, and they all have 2000 DEF with the exception of Decode because link monster and Dark Magician which has 2100 (maybe paying homeage to it being the first).
@@ninkstheultimate3376 Technically Firewall Dragon is Playmaker's ace, which has the 2500 ATK of the other aces. Problem is Firewall was banned in the OCG during the show's production, and they didn't want to promote a card that people couldn't play, so they pivoted to Decode Talker.

Nah, Blue-Eyes was created on the rule of the villain starting stronger than the protagonist. If anything the true mascot is Kuriboh. BLS wasn't even created to be use against Kaiba funny enough.
Hmm Kuriboh..I can see that, but if that was their purpose, they've done a pretty bad job at it

@@yacine656 I wouldn’t say that considering Linkuriboh and Rainbow are actually some of the best Kuribohs around. I’ve seen more decks with Linkuriboh in it than I have with Blue-Eyes or Dark Magician.

Whoever designed Black Luster Soldier has to be a big Final Fantasy fan bc that is a straight up Dragoon
I always stand by the say that "A hero is only as good as their villain", so for Kaiba to have a monster that is stronger than Dark Magician is a way of show how someone who is perceived weaker can overcome impossible odds.
It's kind of like a "brains vs brawn" dynamic.
But Kaiba is a 4th rate duelist with a 5th rate deck.
It is a screw the rules, I have magic dynamic.
In the manga BLS only appears ONCE. Against Mai in Duelist Kingdom. It is never seen or talked about ever again after that.

@@nunocarvalho6671 In the anime Yugi uses BLS a lot more times in filler. Like that short Legendary Heroes arc after Duelist Kingdom. Or in the Virtual World Arc, where Yugi uses it to destroy a Skull Knight. Or in Waking the Dragons against Dartz and the Leviathan. And finally they even made it Yugi's ka in the Millenium World arc for some reason. Oh and he fuses with BLS in Capsule Monster.

Let's be real. They did that to help explain why yugioh cards only go to 3 instead of 4, like in Magic the Gathering. They did all that just to separate themselves from the Magic. 😅

Yugi's ace is Black Magician. Atem favors chaos or something since he is metA. Chaos Scepter Blast, chaos as both a soldier & a magician.

I miss the Lord of D flute of summoning dragons 2 blue eyes and Axe of despair combo days.
The ironic thing is that in Duel Links, this pringle BLS is being played alongside BEWD, because the Skill used with it allows you to Normal Summon Normal Monsters with 2500 ATK or DEF without Tributing, aka BEWD, DM, and BLS. So if anything, the card that's supposed to "counter" BEWD is now an ally.

I use a blue eyes deck to get galaxy eyes monsters out and it's a solid way to keep the deck moving if you xyz with blue eyes jet dragon for some extra summons and the effects of those galaxy eyes monsters help lock out dark magician decks with eaze
Honestly, making BLS a Vanilla would really help BLS decks. Also they should just change his name to "Chaos Soldier" since by now multiple other cards have had total name changes.
BLS will always have a fan in me. I thought the retrains in Dimension of Chaos were the coolest things in that pack
What I know to this day is that Black Luster S is one the most beautiful cards from the first generations.
As I remember that is the rarest card, being a 1st price card and, unless this was latter changed, the only of 2 cards that are unique in the world, but BLS being legal to play
I remember Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories where every card had flavor text and BLS had that exact text. I didn't know there was an actual non-Ritual non-effect BLS

Blue Eyes was the creators intended poster child, but Kuriboh ended up being the card to keep seeing new variations in each new iteration of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise 😂

lets be real... yugi introduces differents cards at differents moments without continue a solid line on brute or magic force of the monsters, they use it 1 or 2 times and is done, blue eyes and dark magician always were prots, but at 1 moments all starts with exodia, later magician of chaos, it came lile nothing and pegasus was terrified, but the card was never seen before, later, black luster, another super ancient card but on the deck never was seen, goes on and on, black magician paladin, dark sage...

black luster ritual should be able to ritual summon the normal monster version as they share the same name. (sadly it isnt)

That certain Non-Ritual monsters can be ritual summoned with certain Ritual Spells for added powers…
Or even if there were Ritual Spells that, instead of “just” summoning a monster, would apply any other manner of effects… Like a “Ritual of Greed” that lets you draw cards depending on how many monsters were used as tribute for it.

Remember, Blue-Eyes was originally intended to be Yugi's Ace, but the idea was scrapped last minute to serve as a challenge for Yugi to overcome, than a power to rely on. Damn shame. Yugi with Blue Eyes would be awesome.
Nah, Takahashi hates using big strong monsters. He likes his underdogs winning either by strategic use of small monsters or by evolving them.
I honestly feel BLS fits more as a Ritual monster. Kaiba is about the future, it makes sense to be normal monster, sacrifice others for power now. Atem is about the past, which was filled with obscene things like rituals and dark magic, things that usually involved, again, sacrifices.
His attack was badass in Duelists of the Roses
Blue eyes is the most representative card in the game. Bls is just there as the counter for it despite having a small protagonism in the franchise due to his brief appearances in the anime and the lack of dominance in the game outside of its effect counterpart known as envoy of the beginning.
I still want the normal monster version of BLS.
Idc about it being some high rarity, just throw it into a random nostalgia set as a common and we‘re good.

Technically speaking. The original non-effect version of Obelisk The Tormentor is the strongest normal monster since it has more atk, and def then Blue Eyes White Dragon.
Fun fact, the normal monster with the highest total stat, as in attack and defense, is Rabidragon, whis is silly and i love it

Millennium scorpion starts at 2500 ap and gains 500 ap everytime it destroys a monster and that monster goes to the graveyard. I used to pair that card up with fairy’s meteor crush and it’s a very effective combo
Difficult choice, since I love both monsters. But since I prefer dragons to people, I choose Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Both Blue-Eyes and BLS are top 3 cards in the game for me easily. I love playing both of these cards but if I had to choose one, I would have to go with BLS. The card is just so cool
Funny thing. In the manga, Blue-Eyes was originally meant to be Yugi's. It was his grandpa's card after all and during their duel, Kaiba summoned it, but Blue-Eyes disobeyed Kaiba and went to Yugi's side of the field, winning him the duel.
Kaiba and his expies use cards that are naturally strong. They represent power.
Atem and his expies overcome that with weaker monsters, but with more combos to compensate the power gap. It’s a David vs Goliath situation. The protagonists' combo reliant strategies is reflection of how bonds are important to them.

Dark Magician was never even Atem's own Ace, yes he's used during regular duels, but the Dark Magician is the spirit of Atem's best friend, Mahad. Black Luster Soldier was hinted to be Atem's true Ka tied to his spirit because in the anime when Atem fused his soul, with Kaiba, Priest Seto, and Kisara's souls to make Dragon Master Knight, Atem took the form of Black Luster Soldier.

That's anime-only though. In the manga BLS only appears once, against Mai in Duelist Kingdom. It is never seen or talked about again after that.
It also makes sense that the Dark Magician has a strong affinity for Yugi, given it obeys him when they're in Atem's mind and he becomes Dark Magician in that early episode.

The vanilla BLS is technically legal (but has the damn Neo-Spacian Marine Dolphin/Aqua Dolphin ruling) so any shenanigans with Advanced Ritual Art can use vanilla BLS to Ritual summon the original BLS.

The normal BLS is actually printed on stainless steel, and cannot be played in game. And yes, it is one of the rarest cards ever. Who knows maybe worth over 0.5 million plus as we speak
Meanwhile Flame Swordsman was never supposed to be a Fusion.
Hope he gets a reprint and we get new support cards for the next set, like maybe a Chaos Max Soldier ritual and ways to use the lv8 monsters in the deck more consistently.

Having had an unbeated Kaiba deck, I'd have to go for Team Kaiba. But I love the Black Luster theme.
Rival’s deck consist of one powerful monster, the MC’s deck consists of many monsters stronger than the rival’s army of small fries.
Yeah I felt the power of blue eyes white dragon when I dueled a friend for the first time in years, managed to summon blue eyes white dragon on his first turn somehow and beat him.

I always love the blue eyes over the dark magician, however I am always team atem. I believe that if atem played black luster soldier as his ultimate monster it could had taken over blue eyes popularity if he was played more as an end game cleaner during the duelist kingdom arc.

“Dark Magician Sucks.” Has the most support in the game. The main monster of the main protag. Defeated Blue Eyes more than once. And has more upgrades than blue eyes and is memes a lot, but it sucks. Yeah this guy is a Kaiba fan.
