This origin story is different than the story in the comic books. Apocalypse creates Sinister. He doesn't create himself like he does in this episode. Most of the rest of the story is the same but it seems strange they would change that detail in the show especially since Apocalypse was the main antagonist of this series and the link between Sinister and APocalypse was already established prior to this episode.
There are so many different versions of the character's origin. In one version, he took the name "Sinister" because it was the last word his dying wife uttered at him with her very last breath. Upon realizing what cruelty he had been performing through his experiments all along.
This may be my absolute favorite episode. Mutants were mere speculation until Essex began his experiments. And in the span of a century theyve appeared all over the world
"Mad, am I Darwin?! Fool! You are a mere spectator to creation! While I... I have become the creator!" That has to be one of my favorite villain speeches/monolgues. It's short, to the point, and blasphemous all at once!
I didn't think the fifth season of this show was that good after Storm Front, but this episode surprised me. An origin story for Sinister was something I was not expecting to see, but I was happy to take it.
Who is Mr. Sinister? A character that the filmmakers somehow never got to. He would be a great villian of given a chance in the movies.

When you're a kid, this is great television.

I hate how the art style changed in the later seasons

Nice touch to include Jack The Ripper as one of his henchmen.
In the comic Apocalypse was the one who changed sinister into a mutant.
Nathaniel Essex is a cross between Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Dr. Henry Jekyll the original mad scientists.
Mr. Sinister was not only a dope villain, but had a DOPE NAME. I can't wait to see him done justice live action.
I always thought Mr Sinisters look was badass

They connected both Nathaniel Essex and the Jean Grey Bloodline in this show.
Of course.
Loved this series, especially how it grabbed storylines from the then current X-Men comics and animated for the TV show.
mr sinister made jack the ripper. wow
“That’s ’MISTER, Mr. Sinister’ to YOU!”
