SINGLEHANDED MAN OVERBOARD SELF RESCUE PART 3: STOPPING THE BOAT UNDER SAIL

  • In this video I show a technique that could facilitate a singlehanded man overboard make the boat "heave to" while under sail from a position in the water over the side of the boat while being dragged along. It features a control line that can be reached from a position in the water over the side of the boat. The control line is attached to the tiller of the Hydrovane which, once pulled, will force the boat downwind, then to jibe, and ultimately head up until the boat stalls "hove to" with the tiller held in position by the locked control line. With the boat "hove to" the task of climbing back aboard is a lot easier and less strenuous.
