Unclogging A Culvert To Get The Water Off The Road

- I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

Watch Beavers clog it back up with trail camera czcams.com/video/RkG87a2yioI/video.html
THANKS FOR WATCHING
Why not bring along a 2x4? A bent culvert like that would be an easy fix with one. Just wedge the 2x4 under the fold in the culvert at a 45 degree angle (placing one end of the 2x4 a ways down the pipe on the bottom - while the other end sticks out the end) then get under the 2x4 and using the power of a fulcrum push up using your legs to "stand up". I am sure it will make a significant improvement to open the end of many bent culverts.
As a side note it looks like your Camera #2 has a better picture quality than camera #1 - right away when you switch you can see that camera 2 has better color and less encoding artifacting (blocks/squares) than camera 1.
@@AstarOfDavid why don’t you do that? You’ve worked it all out with out even doing it yourself and showing us all with a video of it, please culvert king show us
@@panicfarm9874 What? It was simply a suggestion... I mean he's the one who enjoy's getting the water flowing - so carrying around a wedge might aid his ability to get culverts flowing better. It's silly to reject positive suggestions - I mean a good idea is a good idea - if he does not like my idea - HE can decide if he wants to take my suggestion into consideration for his future videos or not (and not up to you - but you can offer your opinion). I think if we can't help each other with feedback then we all just become spectators of someone else's life with no connections no friendships & no relationships..... Anyways so in your mind is CZcams comments only enabled for the "Thumbs up! Awesome work man!" comments only? It's more like a place to share ideas and hopefully get to communicate with the people who make these videos - or read about others ideas and or personal experiences. And I know we all like to share our experiences with one another.... it helps us better understand ourselves. Anyways whatever reason you had to be upset with me, hopefully you will let it go and relax - maybe watch another of Post 10's longer videos to help you chill out....? (Or is my suggestion to you upsetting you further?)
@@AstarOfDavid your narcissistic comment should be put to the way side. You didn’t suggest, you told and with all the great esteem of some veteran on the matter. I wonder if you could put a battery-powered speaker out there on the other side of the pond, playing the sound of flowing water, so the beavers build there instead of near the pipe?
100% your head is on a wanted poster in every beaver lodge in a 5 state radius
I hate what he's doing...LEAVE THE BEAVER ALONE!!!!
@@rover5788 then leave our culverts alone
I just imagine him making eye contact with a beaver randomly throughout the day and they have a little stare down.
He never does anything to the beavers and their lodges. He respects nature. He only removes logs from water tunnels and culverts, which are human made , those that are cause for either current or future flooding. Excavators from govt. do the same job.
@@rover5788 no
we had a miniature flood out in the front of the house and I literally thought "what would post10 do?" So I got a rubber broom and unclogged the drain... I have learned from you and it worked! 🤣😂
You may be ready to take pebble from hand grasshopper
@@thefathiker3844 "I understood that reference."
Bravo 👏🌹
I was over the moon when I got my first whirlpool, well, its the only one to date but I was excited lol
This is the way
Dude, I hope that you will see this. A wildlife professor did a study years ago about beavers and found that it is the sound of flowing water which triggers the beavers damming instinct. It is not necessary to trap and move them. The solution he came up with was to take a 4-6" pipe and insert it underwater in the culvert pipe. The beavers dammed the culvert stopping the sound of flowing water but the pipe underneath kept the pond regulated. He actually used one underwater pipe per culvert. Even in drought conditions this will still work. It will require the state to do it because of material cost and labor but if you suggest it to them, as popular as you are, they may just take it and run with it. 🧐
Ha! Beaver Deceivers don't work. See other Post10 videos for evidence of that.
That's a very smart solution. HOWEVER. I want them ponds unclogged. :) it's an asmr thing I guess
That's an interesting thing to learn.
Good idea
@@Jaecht88 we love the whirlpools
Must be perplexing for the crew coming to fix it and finding it mysteriously resolved. 🤔 Like a damn miracle. (
I think they've probably had so many unexpected road side lunch breaks already over the past few years, driving up on problems already solved, that they probably know about him by now.

This man is more of an asset to his community than our politicians
That's an absolute fact
That's a low bar...
That isn't saying anything really.
I love watching you do this, but in Florida, every other stick would be a snake, and instead of beavers, we would have to watch for gators lol. Keep up the good work and thank you for these videos
Gators at least don't build dams.
Take a couple of gators to the beaver area! They are going to have a blast!😜
Skeeters, Gators and Snakes will get ya down south. 😂
@@elrond12eleven no they eat you alive.
wow post, you really went deep on this one. looking forward to part2
We enjoy post's deep dives into the culvert unclogging business!
We need to get you a van with the capability of an outdoor shower. If I had $ I'd do it in a heartbeat. Please keep safe, love your attitude to life.
I think post 10 is planning to change his vehicle..the next vehicle he gets can be van converted into a camper van with shower kitchen etc
Hello! The water where you rinsed off was probably "tea-colored" from tannins leached out of plant life and tree bits in the area. Silt that stirred up could become "sand-in-your-shoes and socks". But compared to stink, that is probably more tolerable.
I continue to wish for yu that you had a bottle-jack with a circular top to push metal culvert openings back into shape. And an effective -- light weight but strong -- cutter to cut out crumpled culvert tops. Plush really good gloves to protect you from their edges. __
I've severally and STRONGLY recommended GLOVES. Also the use of 4-tine cultivators ("Potato hooks") to extend reach into deeper ponds and culverts , and to self-defend against beavers.
Oh my goodness, I’ve never laughed so hard watching him try to remove that boot. Then exclaiming “I stink really bad”. He’s such a joy to watch. So dedicated to what he does and yet so authentic at the same time. 😊
Never in my life have i seen someone so commited. Bravo jumping in the deep end for sure and dont mind getting wet . Top bloke for sure
I think the beavers have wanted poster of you 😂😂😂
Hey Post10, here is another suggestion for you. For those times when you have to get into deeper water, at least in the Summer, you should get yourself a pair of Water Shoes/Beach Shoes/ Aqua Socks. I like the higher ones (ankle height) as apposed to the ones that just barely cover your foot. Also, look for the ones that have a harder sole, since you are going to stepping on stick and rocks. A good pair will probably run you about $30. This way you're not stepping into those waters in bare feet or sneakers.
Oh, I remember those kind of water shoes when I was younger!
Crocks with the holes in them for maximum stealth operations in beaver pond
Another great program and wilderness senery.
Also, thanks for being respectful to you're audience with your manerisum.
Keep up the good work and videos.

He should get flyfishing waders
@@H-Vox ... Those tall waders could get him killed on many of clogged coverts he has done.
Love the calling up to Ghost10 to be on beaver watch.
I love this guys battles with the Beavers.
Thank you for taking us along on your trips. It is quite satisfying to see your trips and hear you talk about the surroundings. Been a fan since I started watching your videos a few years ago.
The rushing water looked quite dangerous! Nice job of thwarting those beavers. Just the thought of blood suckers would keep me out. ♥️👍♥️👍♥️👍♥️😳🤮
First time I have ever seen you in water that deep. Wow! I'll pass thanks. Stinky water. Glad you got some of the culvert open. Those 2 at the plant were blasting. You guys stay safe.
Unclogging huge beaver dams, no problem. Getting off a flooded boot....kryptonite 😁
Almost as bad as dislodging from waist deep mud
It literally creates a vacuum by your heel when you displace the water with your foot. I've experienced this first hand. Stomping your foot down, between pulls, breaks that vacuum.
We always used a salt shaker to get leaches off. They curl right up and fall off.
Yeah, pulling them off is gross and difficult. *Shudders*
You ever seen a Horse Leech? That's why I don't like leeches much.
I really like the ‘bonus’ content after clearing the culverts. I enjoyed the mini tour and the rushing water view at the end. Great work!
Leaches ,here's what we do in far north Canada. Take a salt shaker, just table salt and sprinkle it on the leach. It falls off, little blood compared to ripping them off.
Doesn't the leech vomit when it feels attacked?
So the salt or flame tricks carry a higher risk of getting an infection, mich like with ticks (need to pull the tick off in one smooth go and try to pull out the whole head)
Well done, Postie. I miss being in New England and traipsing through the old back roads. Love all you're doing.
Any time I hear the phrase "beaver stumps," I immediately think of the episode of the Beverley Hillbillies where Jed wants to build Granny a little log cabin so she wouldn't feel homesick. Jed is sitting in the kitchen, and Jethro comes in and says something like, "I got them logs you wanted, Uncle Jed."
They go outside, and there's a whole bunch of big tree trunks sitting in a pile. And then....
Jed: Where'd you get them logs, boy?"
Jethro: Over t'Drysdales. (Jethro winks at Jed) I gnawed the stumps so they thunk beavers done it.
Cracks me up every time.
How many times did Jed comment (with admiration) “Jethro was born with a full set of teeth, just like a beaver.”
@@philsphan4414 Classic 😂
Now you have me remembering Jethro at his Charm School graduation😂😂
My Compliments for all the hard work you seem to do with a passion. The people in what ever area you live in, are fortunate to have you around.
This guy is a legend
I love the camera angle on the last unclogging. Watching the water flow over the dam and down into the void in front of the pipe... a thing of beauty.
U always make me smile when u get excited about being able to clear it.
That view unto the cliffs by the river with the forest covered in lichen was beautiful!
I was going to bed an hour ago, but I'm still watching you do good work for your community. Keep it up!
Man oh man Post what a great job you did there on the culvert!! Thanks for your heroic actions for helping us out every time you go out!! Have a great day my friend!
Heroic actions? What video did you watch cause it wasn't this one.
I wish you would put a white border around the camera 2 inset. I keep losing them. They blend in. Great job by the way.
true, when there is so much greenery it can be a little hard to differentiate them
It was so nice to hear the rain the other night in the Rumford area.
We need rain so badly all over new england.
Yoooo that was mad pretty at the end! Really recommend putting the dam video on Shorts! I love how the waters were literally belching out of the exits. So much energy!
As well, dang that first clog was nerve wracking... Id be more concerned about the beavers under the water - -
I also think the fish nibbling your leg was trying to help get the smell off lol
Also! Have you put the iron oxidizing bacteria on shorts too?
Wise counsel ~
The river scene at the end was beautiful. I keep forgetting that New England has places like this. I envy that you get to experience this on a daily basis. You're blessed.
🌺 It's flooding a lot down here in the south, for the past 4 or 5 days, it's rained constantly. It's raining faster than it can run off, that's why we're all flooding. Mississippi was on the world news, evacuating everyone, it's bad!!! 🥺🌺
Northeast: watch out for angry beavers.
South: watch out for gators.
We are dealing with historic flooding down here. I wish it would stop raining buckets all day.
here in the Northwest will take the rain !!
@@jenniferconner7534 I hope you get rain too☔️☔️☔️
Also South: Watch out for rattlesnakes, copperheads, and water moccasins...
I live in Texas, but NOT in Dallas where there was flooding!
@@Tazerboy_10 I seen that on tv Fort Worth and surrounding area too I’m in Sanger and we got a good soaking but no flooding thank goodness
Love all the uncloggings in “the wild”
What a great way to end my Thursday. Quality viewing as always👍
Beautiful and Amazing ending! Thanks for sharing that stuff.
Glad to see that you are using a deeper rake. Much better.
Sounds like a wet suit would be one hell of a good investment. And maybe a similar rake, but with grabber handles where you can put more of your body weight into pulling. I think it'd need to be made of steel, aluminium might do, but steel wouldn't give out/bend as easily.
This one had me nervous...deeper water. Stay safe, Post!
“3-point turn”. 😂 dude’s commentary is gold. I love it
Congrats on 600k! Love the content and keep up your great work.
Man, look at the size of the hunks of crap you're pulling out of that pipe! Told ya that the cultivator was a great tool!
I'm glad you gave it a good workout!
At 13:00 i would be terrified to go in that water, he's going in to wash up!😅
Ooooooo this is gunna be a good one. I can already feel it!
So cool to see active small scale hydro power generation. In Michigan, I've seen dams removed that were no longer producing power. The recreational benefits are tremendous. Canoes and kayaks can travel much further. Still, a consistent supply of power, at any level, should be welcome.
Can we get this man a thumbs up for his hard work and dedication, I was wondering how the leeches and ticks were treating you? 👍🏼
All I can say is that was Amazing Post! You are the Man! You went above and beyond this time. I am glad you didn't fall back and go underwater. I think you need to bring a change of clothes from now on. They are lucky to have you in NE. Congrats on 600K+!
You never cease to amaze me! What a great video! You are a complete joy to watch and listen to! I don't know where you were, but the scenery at the end of the video was breathtaking! Thank you for taking us along with you on your journey!

Post 10 you have good Equilibrium. Putting your boots on while standing on top of a Calvert. Thanks for the show
Back roads are always the ones that are not maintained properly. Great work given the condition of the culverts.
“Hopefully I don’t find a leech on my…….. …… ….. back” ahahahaha 🤣😂 I was going somewhere else with that one.
Me too. Lol
Wow! Commitment! Great video! Camera syncing tip: Put your hands in frames of both cameras and clap while they are rolling. Then look for that "spike" in your audio waveform and sync using that :)
You're AWESOME!
Ive thought of a thing that could pull all the clog out in 1 if the rim of the culvert is strong enough to winch of off need like a long grappling hook to push through the clog then attach a winch system to the front of the culvert to pull it all to the front at least a bit like a cork puller for a wine bottle
That would be really fun to watch!
Probably crumple the pipe though with the weight of the water but it would be cool to see
@6:24 - You know that you won't feel the leaches though. That natural pain killer and anti-coagulant make for an efficient machine.
He's done a video where he purposely put a medical grade leech on his arm and explained what happens when they bite. Can't remember how long ago it was
Ghost 10 would've made you walk home if you didn't wash the smell off. LOL!
Nah man... she'd have made him ride in the trunk...

the culvert crusader at it again 😊 I secretly imagine you leaving calling cards for the DoT at the culverts youve cleared that say "you're welcome. post10".
You've got Ghost 10 with you on this one, don't you, Postie??😁😀
I haven't come to the channel in a while (oops) but I've noticed you've started using two cameras in some videos and that's a pretty cool idea! Awesome job as usual, sir! That belch about 9 minutes in made me giggle
It’s so cool hearing the other side.
CAUTION: Those hydro plants are sasquatch magnets. Be careful. If you feel uneasy, retreat the same way you entered.
I'd be less worried about bigfoot and more about a sudden release of water into the spillway. (What the sirens are for)
Although once i saw someone sunbathing on a large rock in a spillway like that with the warning sirens, thats just asking for a Darwin award.
@@jasonreed7522 True
I'm waiting for his Sasquatch episode.........he's had to seen something...........
Sasquatch is harder to remove from a leg, than a leech. Sasquatch is not afraid of table salt or a flame. Always goes for the twig and berries!
The scenery at the end is soooo beautiful. Thanks for posting
Awesome video as always, post!

We have them up here in New England too but rare.
I still think ghost 10 needs to take the lead on an unclogging video
😯 I love the frothy volume of water spewing out from the hydro station. It reminds me of storm water beach foam.
Man! What water flow at the end of the video. That gorge is something else. Just looking at it on here, gets my stomach in knots. When I was a teenager, I didn't have a problem with heights, but now since I am an old fogee, I would never approach it. Thanks Post 10 for another great video!

I saw some videos from Kenislovas, guy from Europe doing things similar to you. he used interesting tool for it. Looks very useful even on beaver dam and very simple.

Great job, good to release the water gently. Pete (M/c UK)
Man out here putting in work👌🏼
beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing
You're a hero. I'm glad you found a use for that little rake. Kenislovas uses one but his beavers use mostly small sticks and mud.
