Wanna learn how to asset rip characters, textures and audio from Vermintide 2, too? I wrote down my workflow in this Steam guide (also includes a link to the audio file rip from 2018):

I love kruber he's a man who lived an incredibly hard life but that stop him from looking on the brighter side of things
I love slice of life, cultural stuff like this in worldbuilding, makes the setpiece feel like it had genuine history and generations of people to back up its existence
@@Janfon1 a slice of life movie or animation set in warhammer fantasy with pepole just living there lives would be preaty nice. even better if it had the ubersreik 5 in it
@@oliwer23pl95 That'd make a cool series, tales from each of the characters. I'd like to see Saltzpyre in his younger days.
@@blackadder5346 The path towards becoming a witch hunter, because that's not what he wanted to be when he grew up..
@@YouAreStillNotablaze I wonder if he was doing steam tank impressions back then?
Fun fact: there's a wheel of red cheese on the table in Saltzpyre's quarters. Apparently Salty is a fan of Ussingen Red.
Plenty of it scattered around the town too if you look carefully enough, especially in the wine cellar
I just found his room and was wonder why it was red
I must preserve the memory of Sigmars faithful cheese regions for the next generation. Never4get.
Dialogue w/ saltz in the party says he's been to ussingen before on business with i think the owner of the manor you blow up. Saltzpyre found some shit and gave the guy an ultimatum of either going to the pyre or donating half his wealth to sigmar or something. There was probably a bit of red cheese in that wealth lol
lol😆
One of the things I like about Kruber is how he grounds the rest of the 5 in a lot of his dialogue. He's more concerned with the tangible human losses of the events of the games and with a simple statement can remind even the elf that there are stakes here beyond their goals and interests
Why can’t I like a comment more than once?

Makes sense, he's really the only 'normal' one. Kerillian's an elf, Bardin's a dwarf, Sienna's a wizard, and Saltzpyre's a witch hunter. Kruber's just a guy.
Kerillian looks so unexpectedly hurt, as if she genuinely felt bad for what she said. Your animations are what keep this fandom alive.
she was thinking of the town as just a location after the chat she realises it was fulled with people just like her friends

Legitimately funny dialogue. I’d watch a jokey-vermintide animation with this type of writing.

Nice
Warhammer Fantasy really is the only universe where both a gatling gun and a bow are both considered good weapons to bring on a battlefield.
At least tabletop wise, the gatling gun is better... Except for the part where they keep blowing up.
@@andreasottohansen7338less likely to explode if you play dwarfs guess taking centuries to perfect technology to it's minute has its advantages
@@anthonyallmond3682 Yeah, to my knowledge, unlike the Skaven, you don't have to worry about things exploding that arent meant to for the dwarfs.
@@andreasottohansen7338You don't even have to worry about your weapons losing their edge or getting inaccurate in storage. You could find a hidden Dwarf armoury that hadn't been opened for millenia and everything in it would still work as good as day one.
Which is why the Empire is better. The utter perfectionism of Dawi keeps them from advancing the firepower of Order thousandfold. An Empire made gun may be less accurate and occasionally misfire but those concessions means there are a hundred Umgak guns per Dawi made ones.
In the end the Dwarf obsession with tradition is only matched by the elves. Which is actually something I really like in Warhammer. So many fantasy worlds have humans be the jack of all trades race who are good at adapting but Warhammer is the only one you actually see it for yourself. The dwarfs and the elves clutch at bygone images of their once great realms while the Empire is on the rise and were it not for the End Times would've British Empire'd half the factions to ruin.
team fortress 2
One thing that I really like about this exchange is that after Kruber explains that it is famous for its cheese, both Bardin and Kerillian's tone dies down in realization of what just happened.
"Had a beautiful red color."
Kruber knew this town. He had been here. He had spoken to its people. And now he was seeing it destroyed.
Kerrilian took Kruber's advice to heart and unlocked the cheesy Sister of Thorns career.
And the mustache has nothing to do with it.
If you wanna talk of cheese, then you should try out handmaiden with moonfire bow and shield with spear.
90% bcr, livid stamina regeneration and a get out of free card lets her do almost literally ANYTHING.
I do better on her other careers, honestly.
@@swaghettimemeballs4420 eh, foot knight is better
This is legitimately kind of beautiful. Kerrilian dismissed the town out of hand, but Kruber points out that the town did have something to offer, humanizing it and giving it a note of character, which alters Kerrilian's perspective. it would seem even Mayflies can still teach an old elf a thing or two.
Funny thing is in "elf years" she's like a teenager.
@@Jinchuurikii95 She sure acts like one lol

0:30 7 seconds of silence. The quiet acknowledgment from Bardin, the wordless march of Markus and the inward-reflection of Kerillian. Dropping the shield of aloofness she carries in front of the dwarf and human for a small moment. This was no fortress or tactical staging area, it was simply an innocent town of ordinary people trying to live their humble lives ravaged by the senseless destruction wrought by chaos. A small moment of mourning for the innocent, a reminder that for all of the disputes between man, elf and dwarf, they upheld an alliance against Chaos that when questioned, was answered by the ruins of the lost. Her brow furrows. Ussingen could not be saved. But she and the rest of the Ubersreik Five will make damn sure it'll be avenged. 7 seconds of silence. The silence is deafening.

Footknight Kruber with the mercenary beard.....man i'd love the mix and match the FACES of the cast with their class armors like that
I know it looks so cool right?
I honestly don't know how you make those facial expressions; Kerillian reflecting on what just happened at the end and Kruber happily stating that it had a beautiful red colour with that face of joyful remembrance are the highlights for me!!
The human mind is attracted the most to the eyes, it's one of the first things a person looks at. If I can't nail the eyes, make them feel human and expressive, everything else doesn't matter
A good example of eyes done right are the cutscenes in Wolfenstein: The New Order, they sell 90% of the emotion and are one of my main sources of inspiration
@@Janfon1 Dude, you're a beast
I love Bardin's expression at 0:30, it's so simple yet it perfectly conveys the "well there you have it" feeling getting around any dialogue limitations. Though his pupils change position in 1 frame and now that I've said it you won't be able to unsee it.
Kerillian: At least the trees have survived.
Kruber: But not the cheese. Beautiful red cheese :(
rats ate all of it probobly
Don't remind me of that one mission.
Kerrilian: well at least the trees survived.
(Millions of dead surrounds the party)

It’s always little small characterizations like this that makes Kruber one of my favorites. I’m actually making a pathfinder character, and now I’ve been inspired to base his personality on Kruber.
Well-meaning but ruthless, drinks to forget lost friends and comrades
A soldier, and a good man.
It's honestly no wonder why the Lady of the Lake chose him to be a Grail Knight. His spirit is as pure as you can get in this twisted world.
@@Spiralpaladin One reason I love the GK career is because for the first time in a long, long, long time, Kruber is looking forward to something in his life by discovering his heritage in Bretonnia and devoting himself to the duties given to him.
It stops being about the money, the drinks, and the refusal to die and starts being about something greater than himself.
I think he also enjoys Kerillian's teasing and his newfound ability to mess with Saltzspyre.
@@amesnfire1098 Aye. We share reasons for our love of the Grail Knight career. And whether it's canon that he becomes one or not, one cannot deny that it's a beautiful bit of character development for Kruber.
For the Lady!
Most trailers had kruber as a grail knight consistently, From outcast engineer to warrior priest
I am in love with this interaction because of how melancholy it is. I always felt I could feel everyone involved simultaneously realizing that this town wasn’t just some town. It was special, unique. They’ll never get to try that Ussingen red, and I think even Kerillian realizes that the world is just a little bit darker without it.
I always come back to this video, because reminds me that even in the war-torn apocalyptic nightmare of Warhammer Fantasy, behind all the warriors and armies and monsters, there were everyday family people that liked cheese. Tragic really.
I really like how Kerillian’s face could be read in a couple of ways, despite her mouth and nose being covered.
After she stops speaking, she’s clearly confused, Kruber makes that confusion briefly more intense, but then she realizes from his tone that he’s being serious, maybe even had memories with something as simple as red cheese in it. It briefly humbles her, and though she’s still confused, it’s tempered by a small nugget of understanding.
the voice acting in the first place is realy good on it's own and leads to the same conclusion but the animation makes it much better
Exactly. Elves are predisposed to arrogant dismissal of anything that isn't made by other elves, so when Bardin asks what the town was famous for, Kerillian's first response is to sneer at the tiny human city. When Kruber explains how popular the red cheese was, she realizes that the "tiny nothing town" she indirectly helped destroy was important to people. People she's gone out of her way to not empathize for.
especially impressive seeing as she doesn't have pupils to help convey anything
You should also check Janfon's animation with Kerillian and Kruber talking about her eyes. He animated Kerillian so well!
And that is why they’re best friends
i always loved this interaction. it's rare to see kruber let his chipper guard down, but man when he begins lamenting something it's brutal.
I love that knowing look Bardin gives Kerillian after Kruber speaks. It's just a warm "see?" That I think the wutelgi wasn't expecting when she was proven wrong by a human no less.
You can feel the anger and hatred that is burning within Kruber. It pains him to see another town burned down. The Skaven will soon feel his wrath and vengeance.
Yet at the same time, that anger and hatred is tempered by nostalgia and thoughts of happier times. A reminder of what it is they're fighting for to keep him grounded.

The power of the words speaks for not only the sentence but from whom said it.
We all know Janfon1 uses the models as a representitive of what the emotion the words have. Kerillian Always stayes the same, the outsider looking in. Bardin and his gear represents the views of the dwarf but each outfits shows his demiener. Being the engineer shows he's inquisitive and fasination from not only the humans but their culture too. Markus is the same and he's in his Merc gear so he acts stowic, hardened, brutal. Upon saying his lines gives more meaning to the entire flow of the conversation.
That shrug says it all. He wasn't juding the elf for what she said, it was more of a reminder that somethings are beyond her and that should be respected even if you don't understand.
This, is a beautiful fan animation.
That's really insightful. I love when people notice stuff like this, it adds a greater appreciation to the work
I'd watch an entire show with these characters just based on this one video, and it's all I've ever seen of Vermintide.
Sienna would know this too. She really likes Ussingen cheese.
Bardin's look of "See? I told you elf" was perfect. It also had a hint of concern for Krubers 1000 yard gaze when speaking about dairy products.
Love how you use kerillian eyes to display her emotions and expressions.
Cheese? Are we sure Legend of Total War wasn't leading the skaven attack of Ussingen for that most strategic resource?
Oh my Gosh! That's genius
Well it's not stupid. Cheese is good for years. if you can amass enough of it, you can mobilize troops far without having to worry about stable supplies. Which in case of Skaven, is very bad for everyone else.
@@Kareszkoma
skaven have ample supplies of skavenslaves if shit goes down..
@@KalashVodka175 True, I guess that's good too. But I guess that is also a form of attrition.
Preserved food is amazing, because of diet and nutrition. If you can preserve lemons, C vitamin. Meats both energy and a lot B kind of vitamins. Veggies to not get scurvy and a lot of things for nails, eyes, so on. Preserving food is very good for an army.
A cheese is yummy too. Increases the morale. Aka you are a soldier. Is dirt and shit all you deserve for fighting and sacrificing your life? Those questions come up a lot in soldiers. It bombs the morale. But a bit of occasional cheese, wine, inviting party dancers, a bunch of girls, hookers, is a great boost to morale.
But if you keep feeding your army with sausage or ham, their heart will go to shit very soon. So you need things like cheese. A bit of ale mixed with their drinking water while marching. For energy, better morale, and more sturdiness while marching. Less pain is felt too.
If you look at these things, there is a very good reason why the Skaven is pillaging human territories. They are growing their army, increasing the quality, and need to hush rebellion with increasing morale.
@@Kareszkoma It's more of a joke since LegendofTotalWar is known for his 'cheesing' of battles in Total War: Warhammer 2
You can actually find a red cheese shop when you have to find the barrels for the cart. I was stuck in it while the rest of the party was off getting the barrels because there was rotbloods jamming the doorway.
god I love it when they humble the knife ear
is that racist?
@@fe7general837 No.
I adore how near the end Kerillian seems to have a vibe of "Well... I guess it was indeed famous for it's cheese..."
For some weird reason this makes my eyes water, that feeling of liking something and being so fond to it that, when the moment you know there is no more of it, you only feel... Hurt
these videos, short though they may be, make me think these characters could work quite well in an animated special. though i know itll never happen. anyway. fantastic work, man! your attention to detail shows through. simple expressions, a timed blink of the eyes or basic gestures really elevates the dialogue!
Heh. Never say "never", you know. But yes, I'd love to see something like that as well and I do realise that it's highly likely never to happen.
I know it’s so good
The way I understood this was that kruber was remembering all the times he ate ussingen cheese and Kerillion feels bad for saying bad things about the town, because she realised that the people in the town were just like her friends, and she hadn’t thought of them like that before
These conversations are the only thing that keeps me playing vermintide.
I have been a fan of these, the "Sergeant, you're staring," one in particular stuck with me, and I think this one will too
Just absolutely adore these animations. Hearing the dialogue and seeing the five in situations other than imminent combat gives them and the world a whole new feeling. Especially in these much more peaceful situations, I LIVE for this stuff
This was always my favorite dialogue in VT2, and Kerillian's face at the end is just the cherry on top.
Man, your animations just keep getting better! I love how Kruber’s beard not only deforms organically around his mouth when he speaks, but also bends correctly when its pushed up against his armor. Excellent work.
Yes thank you!!!! I noticed that it was clipping way too much into his chest so I specifically bent it back by hand. I'm happy to see this effort being noticed
It really is impressive what can be conveyed by dialogue alone. You can hear the anger in Kruber not by his tone but in how he cut into the conversation. Then he pulls the sting from it by reminiscing over the cheese. Even without knowing too much about the characters and their dynamics a line about cheese says so much about them. Kruber is angry at the destruction and Kerillian's flippancy. But he has enough sense not to express it too openly because he is a team player.
Another great animation from great man
Bardin needs to review his gun safety rules. He keeps absentmindedly pointing his repeater at Kerillian and it's making me uncomfortable
It's pointing at the elf... Not much would be lost...
From a dwarven perspective there is nothing wrong with pointing your gun at an elve. Makes them all feel safer :D
Gotta keep the knife ear in check
Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
For kerillian, I'll make an exception
Bardin simply adhers to the first rule of fantasy universes: Around Elves Watch Yourselves.
Been following this channel for about a year now, and I've gotta say, your facial animations have gotten so good!
Practice makes perfect what can I say
Oh my god these animations are so well done and fun. It makes me want a Vermintide show or movie.
Gotta say, I don't think I would've ever heard most of this dialogues without your videos.
Keep it up! Even elgi must appreciate cheese!

This makes me kinda sad though. Makes me think that this town was full of people that could be remembered for something... and now most of them are dead.

Love how you animate these. The subtle expressions of the characters really makes the fantastic writing of this game shine in a totally new way.
I have just realized why the Scaven attacked the city in the first place.
It was all about cheese.

Kerillian somewhat shown guilt that she indirectly destroyed Urbersiek after she learnt what the town famous for. Speaking about her character development, well done fatshark.
He just became the most relatable character in vermintide
I love how Kruber keeps everyone’s heads out of the clouds. He knows who they fight for.
there was a line where bardin says he was sad he did not get to try this red cheese "It could have made decent chuf" dont remember it exactly tho
Honestly Kerillian really should show more cheese, the Ubersreik 5 might suffer calcium defficiencies if they don't get enough of it
When I play empire in Warhammer 2 I always think back to your videos. It gets me thinking, I am marching army’s through this land were people live and if I loose they’ll die
You gotta do the interations between Kerillian and Grail Knight Kruber in the keep, I wanna see that in motion.
I wish we could gather some of that cheese while in ussingen.
Good detail on the subtle facial expressions. You really bring the nuances of these conversations to life.
Kruber saying Cheese is not what I expected
I hope that in Total War Warhammer 3 updated mortal empire map adds Ussingen with a special landmark for Empire (and Skaven with their special flavor) in which mentions this cheese.
Bardin looks at her like “see, I told ya so”
AHHHHH, I love your animations, it’s so cool!
i can only dream of a animated movie set in the warhammer fantasy universe
I always love Kruber's lines lol, his voice actor kills it and Kruber's character adds like a sobering feel to the game idk
These kinds of animations are my favorite out of the Vermintide videos you make. Taking dialogue and putting it into a real cinematic situation, using the the subtle character movements to tell us everything the characters are thinking. Like, the line when I’m playing in-game barely goes notices because I’m focused on killing ratmen. But this is like if the party legitimately had to trek towards the town without a skaven in sight.
"You should show more CHEESE"
Man-thing has CHEESE!!
There should be a Vermintide animated show and whoever animated this would probably be a good character personality director. Getting character models to show emotion so well is where most animated things fail imo.
Love this dialogue. There are piles of red cheese in the large wine cellar in the mission "Empire in flames"
I love the animations, it really make us love the characters more.
Fantastic work, I'm so glad you're digging up and creating these interactions.
Been keeping up with these animations for a while now, animation quality only seems to be getting better and at a rather impressive pace I must say. If you're looking for some manner of feedback the thing that comes to mind when I watch them tends to be the lighting. A lot of the time everything seems unaturally well lit, like every surface recieves light without much shadow. Do you use something like a skydome light or exclusively directional lights? I often find the best lighting comes from one very strong directional light and then much more subtle low intensity lights placed strategically where needed to avoid much too dark spots. Aside from that Sienna's emissive textures when she's in animations often seem too strong in very dark scenes.
Looking good though! Nice to see more creative pursuits grow from the games.
EDIT: Looking over it again, it could also be something with the skin texture actually. Seems... Waxy/plasticy. Maybe something with the shaders.
True, my lighting is in general HDRI and then plenty of directional lights, mostly cones of light. The characters are well lit either to replicate how they look like in-game or to make sure they are visible e.g. on mobile (from my own experience watching painfully dark videos during daytime, I'm making an attempt at making the videos more accessible).
Sienna's emission being the way it is is more of a stylistic choice tbh - though I admit I haven't been using anything for reference as to how bright she should be
About the shaders, at this point I'm utilizing every texture the game has for a Principled BSDF setup with no Subsurface Scattering, so it just must be the lighting not doing the models a favor
Thanks for the feedback, please let me know more!
@@Janfon1 Im not familiar with Principled BSDF. All my own work tends to be in Maya or Max where we usually use the Arnold renderer. But the logic should translate between all renderers. A lack of subsurface could very well play a role, im a complete amateur at actually using subsurface but I got a half decent sense of it on a theoretical level. It could explain the waxy appearance of the skin a little at least.
As for the light, maybe give directional lights a shot, maybe not in a proper video as cones seem to be working well enough for you but if you ever find yourself just experimenting give it a go. As for the HDRI, HDRI maps and lighting is great yeah, I enjoy it a lot aswell to give variety to the light so its not the same flat color all the way around. Maybe try toning down the HRDI intensity though and get your main light from cones or directional lights, use the HDRI to add a low subtle light that prevents pitch black spots but keeps them shaded enough to look more real?
Im still a student myself at the moment so my advice obviously doesnt come from a professional standpoint but I hope it helps. Keep up the great work!
I'm really loving these animations, keep 'em coming!
The quality of these animations are just going up and up and up! Bloody good work

Looking at your earlier videos and your most recent work, your animations really improved a lot
these are getting better and better, keep making awesome content Janfon1... now i should try making some red cheese...
I have legit watched this like a 100 times, absolutely brilliantly brings to life what is normally a blink and you'll miss it interaction in the game. I would absolutely watch a full animated show on the ubersreik 5 based on the strength of this alone lol.
I think this is why Kruber is my favorite. He's the most normal out of everybody and can appreciate the small things.
If the game ever adds cutscenes, I hope Fatshark hires you. You give these fantastic dialogue interactions a whole new life by animating them as well as you do.
Now all I’m going to think about is how Ussingen was the equivalent of Wisconsin within Warhammer.
Expressive animation, great work
Good job at showing the admonishment and contempt on Kerillian's face there. That's some real subtle face work you have. Talent. It's like she felt empathetic about the suffering and special loss, but still that it was stupid mayfly stuff.
I'd say skill, not talent - I wasn't born with it, I worked on achieving it. Same goes for any other skilled artist out there
Kerrilian is now planning to fascinate Kruber with cheese
The elf, so attuned to the world, is still horribly ignorant of it.
Your style gets better by the day. If it was an official animation I would not tell the difference, such attention to detail and fluid motion.
