The origin of the rugs is not Uzbekistan it is Turkmenistan. They are called Tekke not Bukhara. Tekke is name of the tribe who produced the rug. Bukhara (in Uzbekistan) was the market place where Turkmen would travel too, to sell their rugs/carpets. Hence the name Bukhara was given by some.
There are many Turkmen (rug weavers) living in Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and also Pakistan. Rugs made by Turkmen in Afghanistan are usually called Esari-Afghan, Chobash, Kizil Ayak and Khal Mohammadi … I think there are some more too. The fundamental difference is quality. An original rug made in Turkmenistan is far superior in quality … you can clearly see how finely woven an original Turkmen rug is!

This is not a Bukhara rug. It's a Turkmen rug, specifically a Teke rug, which originates from Turkmenistan. You can find more information about them online by searching for "Teke rug / Teke carpet / Turkmen carpet." But in some period of history these carpets was sold on markets of Bukhara. By the way the Tekes are one of the Turkmen tribes.

      Hi,
I have seen a few handmade Bukhara rugs with a black color, but black is a very hard to find color and most that you see in stores tend to be machine made replicas.

@@mprugs I bought it second hand but it is definitely not machine made. I Have a red bukhura that I bought from a local dealer, and it has the same weaving.

Bukhara has almost same design elephant foot pattern in middle but colors range from grey, pearl white peach even yellow (very rare) I am from Pakistan. It is most common rug here. There is small Turkmen community who use to. Make it now every carpet maker makes it. It is most common carpet in Pakistani Homes.

@@hassanaftab1270 The wool has been processed in a way that made the pile softer. Have you seen many black Bukhara's?

Origin of this Design is belongs to Turkmenistan which is Tekke tribe of Turkmens. Bukhara is only place to sell carpets couse of on raod of Silkway. Turkmen weaver make their carpers and sell in bukhara only. Bukhara not making any carpet only selling. This is Turkoman Tekke carpet desing.
