    Hi Mike. Thanks very much for making these videos, I've been learning a lot about Persian rugs from your videos. I recently purchased a Qum Silk Rug here in Canada where I live. The rug was advertised as 100% Silk and Handknotted on the vendor/showroom's website. The rug even has the weaver's signature on it. Before purchasing the rug, I was told I would be given an appraisal certificate listing all the attributes of the rug as well as the Appraisal value in dollars. I've been given an Appraisal certificate, with all details including the fact it is is 100% silk, Made in Iran, Knot Density, Name of the Weaver, and the value in dollars, but one very important detail is left out. It does not say on the certificate that it is handknotted. From the looks of the rug it does appear to be handknotted based on what I have learned so far even watching some of your videos. But I am a little concerned about the Vendors leaving such an important detail and how this could affect the resale value of the rug. Do I have a good enough reason to chase the Vendors from who I bought the rug, to amend the Appriasal certificate or provide a new one which mentions the handknotted detail? Is this something typically included on Certificates? Thanks Mike.

    • @mprugs
      @mprugs Před měsícem

      Hi, I have made several videos about the Qum rugs and in some I not only compare the fake with the real ones, but also give tips on what to look for. The certificate itself is of no value unless it states facts and not opinions. For example, I always tell my clients that like virtually all purchases, the buyer of a rug should expect to loose about 30% of its value the moment he/she purchases a rug due to taxes and the fact that the product goes from being new to pre-owned. The same goes for most things that are used in daily live, whether its a car, furniture or any other home decor or furnishing. This is why I only state the absolute facts about the rug on each of my certificates and I also guarantee that they are hand-knotted when they are and sign the certificate by hand making it a legal document. If you do not have a written statement that your rug is handmade, than that is of concern and if you like, feel free to email me a few pics as I describe in the video (link in all of my descriptions) and I can probably determine whether it is handmade or not.

    • @proudtobedesi
      @proudtobedesi Před měsícem

      @@mprugs Thank you for the response Mike. I'm going to go and ask the Rug showroom to amend the certificate or provide a new one which explicitly mentions the Handmade detail. If I get some pushback regarding that, then that is a matter of concern, and then I will certainly get in touch with you via email and possibly send you some pictures of the Rug. Thank you for your help and input regarding this Mike. Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

  • @lukmanabraham7864
    @lukmanabraham7864 Před měsícem

    Mike two rugs on the left have signature upside down, huge red light. Specially with the mihrab design, you are the first guy to talk about that. There is absolutely no reason to make signature upside down except if they didn't know that that means. Meaning Chinese.

    • @mprugs
      @mprugs Před měsícem

      Majority of rugs that are woven against the grain due to the nature of the Persian and Turkish knots and the signatures are typically at the top. But when you hang the rug or display it, it is typically hang with the light side (with grain) towards the ceiling to maximize the shine. This results in the signatures typically ending up upside down. Most Qum rugs when hang on walls with the lighter side end up with the signatures upside down. Same with high end Tabriz, Hereke and Isfahan rugs...

    • @lukmanabraham7864
      @lukmanabraham7864 Před měsícem

      @@mprugsi understand but they count in that specially with high-end rugs, they are capable of knotting rug upside down and even sideways to get desired effect. You know that already. Nobody hangs mihrab rugs upside down, specially when you already have text inside sultan head which is going to be upside. I respect you Mike and your knowledge, but sometimes we all wish for some rug to be real and maybe that may cloud our judgment.

      Yes and its unfortunately one of the traps that many buyers are not aware off. Whether its in the machine-made rugs or like for example in the case of the Chinese Hereke rugs, the signatures are often a tell-tell sign that there is something fishy...
