NY in the late 80s and early 90s was not to friendly to wheelchair users. I was just a kid and my dad could carry me and my brother lifted my folded wheelchair.

Your channel has helped me tremendously, I have a form of cerebral palsy, and I get around on a wheelchair, and this is all still very new to me, mine flared up late in life, and has been gradually getting worse, I appreciate your channel more than you can imagine

14:56 I would say that, whenever you use a new device, for mobility or otherwise, it's always a good idea to get to know it.

When my electric wheelchair had a problem in a small town in Thailand there was no accessibility technician available. But there was a local television repair shop. Electronics is electronics. The tv man got my wheelchair going again. At the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. the rubber came off my manual wheelchair and a passing VA physical therapist put it back on for me. Help can come from surprising sources. My worst was Atlanta airport. Stuck in an airport wheelchair at the ticket area for two hours with no one available to get me to the gate. I was going to miss my flight. I burst into tears in front of the airline office and a kind lady came out and located a "pusher" to get me to my flight at the last minute.

very interesting video, I bet a lot of people will be helped by this. By the way I was in Edinburgh also several times when I was stationed near there in the service. But that was about 50 years ago! Likely it's changed a bit by now. I'm hoping to get back to Scotland before my expiration date :)

I still wonder how much of this will apply to my kid. She still so far can get around without assistance although there is the ever-present possibility of a fall down.
I suppose only time will tell if she will want to use some sort of wheelchair, scooter, or walker/cane thing.
Good news is most fall downs these days seem like they'd be easily preventable, like not looking where she's going... 😮‍💨
    Time will tell.

Great video always great to hear the positive or lesson learned. I’ve carried a cell phone battery charger with me because of getting stranded without a phone with a charge to make a call or get an Uber and charge my phone throughout the day now. At an airport once they damaged my manual chair and had to find a place when I got to the city to Help get it fixed. Definitely good things to know. I or recommended medical facilities are.

Thats the main message...plan all travel surroundings. I was in NYC in April, and never saw anything but very lengthy distances to your subway trains. I never saw disabled access to the subways, just lots of steep stairs. I remember walking long distances to subways in NYC. There is little access for disabled people.

I’m surprised that the train wasn’t accessible. I guess NY has the money to keep paying those lawyers that sue places that violate the ADA act.
We haven’t had any major problems with wheelchairs. My son had an issue, mainly taking a wrong turn in SOFI stadium. We took a service ramp from the upper level all the way down to field level. It wasn’t very stressful, just inconvenient, long and no exits on the way down.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. You are correct and gave good advice. If a person has to rely on any type of device for mobility, tgrt should be very familiar with operation and the quick fixes to keep it going.
It amazes me that commercial airlines do not have standard operations of how to handle folks traveling with devices. Perhaps an ambitious, courageous young lady could lead the charge to "educating" air carriers and have standard procedures adopted to facilitate travel. That could be a full-time job, though.
I hope you are able to continue with these videos. I think you give a lot of encouragement to people that face the same challenges that you do.
I wish you all the best with your travels and hope you never lose that tremendous attitude. It would be a shame for anything to ever dampen that beautiful smile and twinkling eyes.
Always control your thoughts and use your strength to override any anxiety that comes up.
God bless you, young lady in all that you do. Stay safe in your travels.
I wish for you and yours to have a blessed and Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
    Hugs from Texas.

When I go overseas with my family. I usually walk through the airport (or ask some one and they will push me in a wheel chair to my airplane and go on the plane with the ask for disabled to board. Rent the scooter from the place I’m staying at would make more sense to me and not give me a headache. I might be tired but oh well. It’s much faster in the long run

Don't take it personal overlook it because people today didn't care about yourselves but I cared because you're a nice woman.
