    I appreciate the specific information. So many expert videos out here seem like they are made by people who been skating so long they forgot what it’s like being a beginner. We beginners need suggestions with names, model numbers, images, websites, etc., and especially comments like, “buy this one.” Thank you!

    Awesome, thanks Skatelyfe, for the tutorial, it’s especially great for us newbys. I haven’t been on skates in over 35 yrs, since the early 80’s. Even back then I was a wall hugger, so I’m m definitely ordering me a new pair of new skates you recommended $129.00 . I went skating (well wall hugging) last weekend, The skating rink we have here have concrete floor, it’s kinda uneven, but oh well, it’s better than nothing. I’m in it mainly for the exercise, Thanks for sharing the videos.

    I went through pairs of skates and then found a Dominion pair,with a forged aluminum plate.The Chicagos i had,i busted them wide open,so i know i needed leather.Basically,if you skate with a lot of torque,axels/waltz jumps,you might need a stiffer boot.If you're smooth,cool,and just roll a lot,you can rock a softer boot,yet even then,it has to be comfortable to you in the long run.My next one was a SureGrip Classic plate and Riedell boot,and that plate was bulletproof,then onto the Snyder Deluxe/Silver Star boot,the same boot a buddy Mike Johnson was using.He switched to a RollLine plate later,Now I roll with the Edea Fly and Giotto plates with Bones 101 wheels.Now that i have a boot that has a great fit inside,i dont have to tie my laces tight...Sometimes if you can,go check out skates already out together,or at least wear the boot around the store..

    I got these and they aren't bad at all, you can feel the rigidness of the Vinyl, that being said the Leather version is a Jump in price. So after buying a set of outdoor wheels as well to practice when I can't go to the rink, I think they are fine in the price range. They were 10 times better than the rental skates.

    I basically bought everything you recommended. Riedel Angel skates, reds bearings and team rollerbones wheels and the difference between those and the suregrip rental skates the rink has is HUGE! I skated as a kid and recently my daughter was invited to bday skate party so I took her out a few weeks before to teach her how to skate and I’m hooked again lol, now with the new skates I’m at the rink everyday there is an open skate! Bought my son(12) matching set up too! My daughter(7) has the roller derby brand adjustable skates since her feet keep growing but I have a set of rollerbones wheels and reds bearings ready and waiting once she’s ready for the speed!! Had to comment to give thanks for the help this video gave to me and the kiddos!

    This review mentions the Chicago skates. I bought the Chicago 405 which is a lower version. He recommends the higher version which is the 805. I don't know if the 805 is better. On my third day, approximately 1 to 2hrs use each day, the wheel bearings on the right foot front right wheel failed and dislodged. Sent me crashing to the floor and causing a pileup of skaters. Bodily injury to me and other skaters from both impact with floor and each other. Close examination of the axle and wheel indicates catastrophic failure of the wheel bearings. The left foot front left wheel bearings also failed, exhibiting the same defect and 1/8" of wobble, and posed an imminent risk of dislodging (had the other not failed first). The other 6 wheels also show signs of material failure and exhibit 1/8" of wobble after a few hours of normal use by a normal sized man. Yes I am big, but still less than the recommended weight for my size...that's why I ordered size 11. The manufacturer should anticipate user weight to increase with foot size. Read other reviews. I am not the first. Manufacturers should design products for a factor of safety of 2 to 5; considering that all eight wheels/bearing sets are showing damage and or failure after a few hours of normal use I would say this is not a coincidence. These skates are ideal for beginner to advanced skaters looking to get injured or simply want to pretend to skate but never try. All others should consider buying something else. See my photos. P.S. I am a structural engineer, often hired to do failure analysis reports... this product can not possibly be designed properly for its intended user. Amazon delivered promptly and the package was not damaged. Amazon accepted my return including free shipping. As of time of posting review - no compensation for bodily injury from Amazon or manufacture. I emailed the manufacturer, NSG, but received no reply, as of the time of posting this review. But, hey... I am just one customer. You should read reviews. My post is based only on my experience. Others may have different experiences; 2.2 Million people enjoyed their Ford Pinto and only 27 to 180 deaths as a result of the manufacturer's defect. Choose wisely. Good luck.

Does changing the bearings and wheels make it easier to skate ?

  • @pydepiperproductionsllcjon7585

    Listen I skated back in the 70 and 80s and skated professionally and I will tell you this. The type of skates, barrings, wheels, boots, toe stops all play a role in your ability to skate. For example, when I first started skating I had a cheap pair of skates. My legs, feet and everything hurt all the time. When I got a good pair of skates I was able to skate longer, faster with less effort. Even the the rubber bumper in the truck matters, how well it supports you in turns, if your trucks are adjusted correctly, if you have good fast barrings. So to say the skate do not matter that is soooo untrue. They make a great deal of difference. There are even skates that are not have the right size plate or not centered on the boot correctly. Even the strenth of the boot makes a differance.

      yes it s from far ..more difficult than ice skates.... and doesn 5 matter how expensive are the skates, if it doesn t fits for you...it s like this.... when l was a child, l had some very cheap, but with metal bearings and real rubber on it , not silicone......well l was flying in all direction, it s about how stable it s your foot position in any skate figures....

    • @pydepiperproductionsllcjon7585
      @pydepiperproductionsllcjon7585 Před 2 lety

      You should have two sets of wheels if you plan to skate outdoors and indoors and here is why. Skate wheels are made of different materials for different aspects. For example, a indoor skate wheel has a hardness to it, like All American wheels and bones both make a indoor wheel and a outdoor wheel. The indoor wheels are hard and the texture which they are made out of allows you to glide across the wood and yet have a grip. While the outdoor wheel mostly are a softer material which allows it not to tirer your legs and roll over the rough serfice easier and if you hit a pebble with a hard indoor wheel it tends to throw you because it wedges in between the ground and the wheel where a outdoor wheel will have cusion and go over it without stopping your wheel in its tracks. Plus using your indoor wheel out doors damages the wheel and puts pits in the wheels serfice. now depending on your skate style you might like the feel of a outdoor wheel indoors or vice verse. But trust me your better off with a set for outdoors and a set for indoors. Do not use your out doors indoors as it doesn't allow you to learn moves like a hockey stop indoors because you need to slide a little to do a hockey stop. I bought a pair of nice used skates of duglas snyders which I will create some videos on my page about how to fix up a good used pair of skates. Follow me and I will start a series of new videos which I will include a DIY projects

      If you're looking to change the wheels on Chicago skates, you need to purchase new bearings as well since the bearings that come with Chicago wheels are NON-REMOVABLE. Additionally, I highly recommend getting new toe stops as well since the toe stops that come with Chicago skates are hot trash. This all coming from personal experience.

I can skate pretty good I can do cross overs, skate backwards a little, and that's about it I do wanna start doing more tricks though. Also I see some are vinyl and some are leather does that also make a huge difference especially if I'm a big skater? (250+)

      Rhythm skating is more of what you get at roller skating rinks. They do tricks, partner and dance skating to the beat of the music. Artistic skating is about form as they compete in competition's and have leagues. They are like ice skaters on 8s. They are even trying to get it into the Olympic games.

    Can you talk about wheel base size? Suregrips are great, but the wheel base is a little short. Great for dance skating but if someone wants more stability which skates have that longer wheelbase?

    • @kcire-tv3wy
      @kcire-tv3wy Před 4 lety +1

      You would have to look at the sizing of the plate. That is what usually determines your wheel base. As you've stated, a shorter plate helps with quickening your moves. Longer plates help with stability. A website called conniesskateplace.com specializes in helping you build the skate to your liking. Get with them and they can direct you to the plate you need.

      No skate is too advanced for a beginner. The better the skate the easier the results. The only downside is the money spent if you don't keep at it and stop skating. Those 120s are a great boot,and far better than rentals.

      I think so. I've been rollling a 111 boot with a plastic plate for 1.5years; it gets the job done.
      If you think you're gonna keep skating, look at the one with a metal plate. Metal will last longer and perform better. Is is noticeably heavier though so if you have weak legs... think about that reality. Metal is also recommended if you are a larger person.

      Loosen up the trucks a bit and make sure your wheels aren't tightened to the point they don't roll when you spin them by hand (a lot of companies ship em out that way). This helps with maneuverability. First thing you need to practice on is balance and keeping you knees slightly bent for better control.
