  • Polistes gallicus queen laying an egg in a newly started cell at the periphery of her nest.
Over the course of colony development, a feedback loop can be seen where the queen sees empty new cells and responds by filling them with an egg, and the workers see the cells being occupied by eggs and respond by building new ones. Excluding external factors such as food availability and temperature, the rate at which the nest grows and thus its final size ultimately depends on how readily the queen occupies empty cells.

Update: as of late August 2021 this colony is thriving, I free-ranged them a few weeks after this video and they are now free. The queen is still alive, although very old, and the old nest had to be abandoned. They built a new one a few centimeters away from the original, where they're now raising new queens and males. There are approx. 30 workers. I shall be releasing a video soon

Wasps are over hated, they only sting when they feel threatened just like bees, pretty cool to find someone that keeps them, hope to be able to try this one day myself

Yes they would, provided it's a type of paper they like to collect
