You’re scoring some pretty great cars at ridiculously epic prices🤘
I’m the king of hoopties lol
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds unlike the other self proclaimed King of Hoopties at least you can fix them yourself.
When is the video on the pontiac Montana?
Yes
@@bn9983 Hoovie garage sucks.
Definitely fix up the Xterra! Battery, alternator, used tires and a detail will make it a $4-5000 rig! (at retail anyway). The body and interior look darn good for the miles. Someone would be happy to make that a daily driver, even with the crank windows. (hey, one less thing to break). Good job Randy!
I agree! Fixed up would be a great daily driver, or could be sold or put up for auction. So many choices!
My family owns the oldest Nissan dealership in the USA, my great grandpa started with them when they were Datsun... everyone told him he was an idiot for messing with them back then... Well, they were wrong!! He always made us drive Xterra"s whwn we were growing up because they were so tough and hard to tear up... They are great vehicles and great starter vehicles for teenagers, safe too... I would like to see you put a little into it and send it on down the road!
My grandpa’s truck is a 2016 Nissan frontier and it’s exactly the same as that Xterra. Same color, same wheels, manual everything including a 5 speed manual. But it’s a 4-cylinder
So just the wheels and color is the same then
no one asked

I have a 12 xterra with 180 k on it still runs great . You can access the alternator from the passenger side wheel well. Take the liner off and have at it . Wires are a little short so you will have to do it blind.
That Xtera would be a great first or second car for somebody. The good thing about everything being manual is that everything usually works.
Alternator, tires, battery, fluids and a good cleaning is all she needs. I think if you put the money into it with good new parts, you should be able to get your money back out of it. It’s been taken care of, and if it looks that way at auction will help. (See if you can find blemished tires)
Randy you are funny. I was surprised you drove that far knowing that battery light was on which meant the alternator was not working but oh well I guess you live and learn. Lol.
Use to have an Xterra. Very good, long-lasting, suv. Replaced the alternator on it too, never had any other issues. I say fix it!!
I love the new thumbnails!!! They look like something out of a movie!
The last new car we bought was a 2000 Xterra. My wife has been wanting one ever since we traded it for a 3 row Pathfinder. I might be willing to trade my 268k mile 2002 4Runner for one. Or buy it outright.
Randy - I think if you add tires and fix the alternator and whatever code is on it’s a $5000 car. I’d probably pay that.
Fix it Randy. A set of tyres, Alternator and a damn good clean and she'll be Golden. 👍😊
VDC is the "traction control." Used to work for Nissan, and these things, whether frontiers or Xterras, are bulletproof. All the techs loved them and they very rarely came in for anything other than regular maintenance.
From the hundreds of channels I'm following only 2 or 3 have the thumbs-up before fully watched. AAR, HubNut from the UK and The Wizard.
In my area and Xterra will that many miles but I must say the body is pretty good on that they usually bring around $2,500 to $3,500 even the two-wheel drive
I believe It's definitely worth fixing, new tires, alternator and the engine light. Should be able to make a profit on it
Finally ur back with good content instead of same old walk around and showing off your new cars we don’t wanna see new cars we wanna see 2000-2015 cars
Bring her back to life! That drive was riveting haha. Great content Randy
Ive always loved the Xterra (even though ive never owned one).... you can definitely tell that its a base model (you can tell those are base model wheels) but id still love to see you bring it back to life
I have a 2000 first red one. First 4x4. #18 off the assembly line. And it has 382k and runs like a champ.
I always loved the xterra and would love to see this one cleaned up and sold.
I look forward to Seeing Randy upload he’s a highlight of my day
The Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) feature helps your car maintain proper traction when driving in adverse conditions. But when the vehicle is stuck in snow or mud, the VDC reduces engine output, and you may need to turn it off to get your vehicle out.
Love that xterra. Great car. Those are amazing terrain cars. Those cars usually have 4 wheel drive.
Love to see the xterra being pretty. Some nice secondhand tyres and an alternator. A decent cleaning. And she is such a great family car.
The whole point of an XTerra is that you can clean it using only a garden hose. No bells and whistles. Purely functional. I see it as similar to the way jeeps once were.
If you're going to keep it make sure you change out the radiator so you don't end up with the very common problem on this car of getting coolant into the transmission. It's affectionately called SMOD... strawberry milkshake of death.
I was suprised to see crank windows and manual locks. I would have thought all Xterra's had power everything. But maybe this was a fleet model or ex government vehicle or something, specially ordered with manual stuff.
...only cool cars have wind up windows.
They were budget cars back then.... The early 2000s is still basically the 1990s 😂
It's just a base model, no options. Nissan still had them available like that back then, Frontiers too.
@@Mike.D.843 I know the Frontiers were available as base, base models, but the Xterra usually had power options, even in the first gen.
@@tall_dude1233 I owned a first gen, and yes most people wanted them with the power options, but they did have a de-optioned trim level even on the first gen, it just wasn't as common because who wants a vehicle with manual windows and locks these days? I believe the first gen base model was just Xterra without any trim codes added. I had a 2001 XE 2wd, and there was also an SE model.
in 2006, the Xterra had four trim levels, X, S, Off-Road and SE. Off-Road and SE were the top trim levels. X was the base trim, more likely to be de-optioned because that's how it came standard. S was the basic, most common trim on the 2wd and you would have gotten the power windows, locks, mirrors, etc as standard on the S model. if offered at all, those features would have been optional on the X model.
Would love to see you flip the Xterra...Love how your garage is turning out to be......It would be quiet a catch for someone at that price rage after doing it up...i seem to be in love with Nissan Micras at present. ..easy to work on and fast to sell.......i invested in an xtrail diesel 2006 4x4 three years back . i lost my money in that deal as no one could fix or figure out why the car wouldn't start. Over here X trails are very few, so expertise was nil
I think if you add tires and fix the alternator add used battery, yeah we are interested, sure why not we love this channel as you bought old cars to life that's the best part about this channel
261 hp. With an very reliable v6. Great car hauler.
Another great video. I think that xterra is a win. 1 thing is like to comment on though is I love your going back to your roots on this channel. It's what made this whole thing great. But to really go back to your roots, remember it's auto auction REBUILDS. Your great long time followers joined you in this journey watching you rebuild wrecked vehicles and giving them a second life. I think you fixing physical damage and not just internal stuff is great content. Just an observation though, keep up the good work and thank you
Definitely worth replacing the battery and the altenator and cleaning it up and getting it all tuned up with new fluids and tires and then sending it down the road to Copart or IAA
I think you scored. Fix a few things, maybe a detail, and down the road it goes.
Love the X-Terra SUV this thing looks Nice, needs tires and new battery and alternator ? I like this it's cool.
I would throw an alt on it and see where it all goes. It runs well. Anyway the reason most Japanese vehicles have the alt on the botton is because it makes it easy to get to on a lift. Most Japanese are not wrenching on their cars so it makes it easy for the tech to work on it in a garage lift
I bought my Xterra right before covid started and then I couldn't register it for very long time.. but when I did.. I started to drive it rights away... there few few small fixies here and there and then I started little by little doing upgrades to it.. from small simple parts like hood struts to full suspension rebuild by doing Titan Swap and stillm ore to come building overlanding / off road rig out of it.. and also making videos of it. just to help others .
To get the VDC Light off you have to drive it in a straight line for 30sec to recalibrate System after dead battery
that Xterra is worth fixing, also looks to be in pretty good shape. It can be a good vehicle for someone in need of a vehicle.
Save that X-Terra Randy ✌️ just because is in good overall shape. I'm definitely curious to see what it brings at the auction! ✌️
Randy, I have watching your " show´s " now about couple years, and needles to say, these are fun to watch. Personally I would never ever buy car unseen ..never. How ever this car what you have now...I think you should fixed that, as also all those cars what you have in your yard. My question for you it is this, that why you do not have "car yard sell" in your own yard ?? ..
You should get much more better money, what you are getting from the auction. Consider that please. Out here, behind of internet, are so many people who are ready to buy car from you.. Just do it. :) Then lastly, create sticker from your company: "Auto Auction Rebuilds" and put those stickers to all cars what YOU have been fixed. :) JB
We bought on for around the same but I think it needed a battery and it was 400 - 600 at the auction in Savannah Georgia... I'd say fix her up and send her... Love your videos.
Always like to see a saved car. Many miles left with little work.
My one coworker had an 03 he got brand new. Had a 5 speed manual. We all called it the little yellow school bus. He traded it for an Armada so he can haul his family.
Xterras are so much fun. I have 2 vehicles and they're both the top of the line Pro4x Xterras. They're the swiss army knife of SUVs. Not the best at anything but good at everything. Love them.
That's why you should always bring the jump pack with you
Yes bring her back to life I love those things
Do em all up mate!!
I got one of these 2002 model but here we call them Nissan Pathfinders. Mines got electric everything and Sunroof 2
It looks to be a base (X) trim level with no options. Just a good basic truck. The body and interior look to be in pretty good shape though it looks to have been neglected a bit, and in need of some cleaning and maintenance. I bet after a few small repairs, it'd make somebody a decent vehicle.
I wouldn't put a lot of money into it to re-sell it. This is a truck that is worth the investment for somebody who wants to keep it long term, but not for a flip.
For a re-sale, this is what I would do:
1. Wash/Vacuum/Detail
2. Replace failed alternator
3. Replace battery
4. Install four matching tires with decent tread life. Could be used, or budget friendly new off brand. (I wouldn't bother with fixing the tpms).
5. Change the oil
Last - a very common fail point on this year of Xterra is the internal transmission cooler inside the radiator. They leak and allow coolant to get into the transmission fluid and it destroys the transmission (known as SMOD, short for Strawberry Milkshake of Death). If this truck has the original Calsonic radiator - and from the look of it, it probably does, *then SMOD is guaranteed to happen at some point.*
What I would do about SMOD prevention on a flip car is:
I would first cross reference the part number from that silver sticker on top of the radiator against this list of known bad radiators (Calsonic radiators that *WILL* cause SMOD PN's: 21410-EA200, 21410-EA205, 21460-EA215, 21460-EA265, or 21460-ZL11A). If it does indeed have one of those bad radiators then I would check underneath and see if the internal cooler has already been bypassed, if it has - then nothing further needs to be done. If it has one of those bad radiators and the radiator's internal transmission cooler is still connected in line, bypass it and it will be fine unless used for towing. These came from the factory with an external transmission cooler mounted behind the grille, in front of the condenser. Many people have bypassed the in-rad cooler and run on just the external cooler for years without issue. The best thing to do is replace the radiator, but bypassing it will at least ensure the next owner won't get a surprise catastrophic transmission failure becasue of SMOD...
If you fix those items, I'd bet you can turn a small profit on it on re-sale.
Oh, and VDC stands for Vehicle Dynamic Control - It's Nissan's traction/stability control system. That light will come on anytime the battery dies or is disconnected. All you have to do to reset it is drive slow, and straight for a few hundred feet after replacing the battery.
I suspect the service engine soon light is most likely also related to the failed alternator, and low voltage. I'd clear the codes and road test it again after you fix those issues, and It wouldn't surprise me if the light doesn't come back on.
It also looks like the oil pressure sender is bad, but maybe that's due to the low voltage also...
The years 2005-2008 were notorious for the "strawberry milkshake". The seal between the engine and transmission cooler fails, contaminating both systems.
Fix the Xterra!... I bought one like this (manual cranks) (base model) and drove it everywhere... I liked not having to fix the window regulators and buttons... that's what a lot of these older cars have to go out... you may want to check the radiator... these have an issue with " the strawberry milkshake of death"... you can bypass the radiator trans-lines or replace the radiator altogether to get past the issue... would be good info and content for viewers to know these issues and how to FIX!... Keep up the good work!
Definitely clean the XTerra and replace the alternator, battery, and tires. Still has lots of life in it. Looking forward to the videos on the other Nissans.
Have a 02 Frontier. Vg33E with 224k and has been an amazing truck no issues what so ever. Bought it with 34k
Our 2011 Pathfinder SV 4 x 4 has 152000 miles on that 4.0 that Service Engine Light is the biggest pain. Something to do with the battery positive connection that has the fuses in it. You clean it up and 2 or 3 days later it's right back on.
That Xterra would bring $4K with a couple of minor issues fixed and a new set of tires.
4k is a lil too much for 205k miles amaybe 2,500 to 3k maybe
@@ElGalloGomez I see them all over CarGurus for $5-7K with similar miles. There is a following for these tough vehicles.
Good video Randy. I like it when you do stuff with your car buys, versus auction walk arounds, so of course I'm for your getting this one back on the road again. You keep tinkering, and I'll keep watching. Sounds fair to me! 😉
Yes Randy, for me is worth to fix it and then sell it to someone that needs. Greetings from Italy!
I will always stay subscribed to this channel...Why ....You have the coolest things happen.
This Xterra would be a great hauler. They have a powerful engine.
Check to make sure that the radiator it’s not cracked on the inside because the transmission in the coolant on those models had problems with the coolant mixing with the transmission fluid they have a huge recall on them
First of all I’m telling you, if the radiator trans cooler has not been bypassed do it NOW !!! The are very susceptible to cracking and mixing antifreeze with trans fluid. So much so there is even a name for it within the community… we call it SMOD, strawberry milkshake of Death. With those miles it’s probably been addressed but it’s not worth taking a chance.
I have a 05 Frontier which is the same basic vehicle and I love it more then in probably should. It’s just a great truck.
Addendum comment, Love your channel! still interesting but I think you should mix of what you’re doing in with what you were doing! viper Chevelle how these road trips etc. For $900 that Nissan even with its problems looks like a hell of a deal!
Good deal. Up here a 200,000 mile Nissan would be 6 or 7 grand in good running condition.
Fix what’s wrong with the brakes and the vdc and brake light go away. Put on used tires, shine it up and it’s 6-8k here in Virginia all day long. Not a bad buy.
Btw i just got a 2011(i think) xterrs last year. Just before the car market got screwy. Its clean with just over 100k miles. Has a full carfax since purchase from previous owner and ive wanted 1 for years. Its basically my dream car. The only thing i dont like about 2010 and older is the whole coolant/oil mixing problem
That's a great car for the money It's definitely worth putting a set of tires and alternator on it
Make a video series showing how you made her road worthy AAR is amazing and Randy you are incredible thanks for your inspiration
Bring the Xterra back to life. It's in great shape for the milage. Great content Randy!
Alternator, set of tires, fill the washer fluid and you got a good running vehicle. Would not be surprised at all if the check engine light goes out with a new alternator. Not bad for 900 bucks.
There’s another Issue I see, check out what is going on with the oil pressure, the gauge says it’s high. One thing I do always is hook up a computer to the OBS 2 port even if it doesn’t have lights it gives me more information that sometimes can’t be seen. Figure out if that oil pressure is faulty sensor or something bigger
Wow ! Love xterras ! Hope you post another video of how it went with this one !!
You might consider doing the fix up and selling directly to a used dealer. It will likely bring more there unless it is salvaged title.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) OFF indicator light, when illuminated on the dashboard this is an indication that the stability control system is not engaged.
Thats was a fun ride , Randy . Yeah , 4 new shoes and its good
Loving all the videos and cars lately Randy! Some nice cars at pretty sweet prices honestly👌! Nice score also on this Xterra once you get everything sorted out it should be a pretty great driver!
Was a very familiar feeling when the battery started dying, barely made it home when it happened to us, but for us it a snapped belt, Liked vid
i would check the alternator the wires for it. check everything you can for it. she a 06 she got some miles on it for sure. but i would love to see some work go in-to it, she worth it to get it back on the road.
Throw a set of tires on it, the alternator and it's a perfect around town runner!
Hey buddy good to see you again
Xterras are tough💪and unique. Yes keep it. I have a 2006 nissan xterra offroad💪🔥
I love the Nissans as I’m a huge fan of the cars and of course the cheap cars like that accord keep it up randy
Randy replace the alternator and the battery alongwith the tires. In this economy and at times of new vehicle shortage you will double your money easy.
New tires alternator battery and a good cleaning. If you had a dealers license you'd be able to sell it for around $3000 but I think you'll loose money sending it back to the auction.
As an Xterra owner I can say Nissan Xterras are the greatest cars ever made.
The old Honda is my favorite car so far! ❤️
You're going to have fun changing the alternator on that one. Transmission dip stick in on the passenger side with a 10MM cap screw holding it in place.
The pass tire has to come off to change the alt it's not to bad 2 bolts one on top and one on the bottom infront of thr alt getting the charge wire off the back is the fun part lol
Have a 2001 pathfinder, had to replace the alternator and boy it was a pita. Had to take off just about all the accessories...
Bring it to life it deserves it
Nice mix of cars. Some fun ones and some bread and butter cars. Well worth the repairs I think. Other than the benefit of the lift and air conditioning and heat when it's needed this goes back to the early days of AAR and fits in with what most people have today. Inexpensive car and a driveway. I'll bet there were a bunch of us pushing and praying as you were going up the hills. What a relief when we all saw the first houses in town.
Change the oil, alternator, put some new tires on it and drive it around
You should have kept the jump pack with you.
This is the kind of content that I enjoy seeing.
i would like to see you fix this one up and send it on to live another life. i think it has some more life to it, and there is someone out there that will be able to use it. loving the content, too! keep it up. i like seeing someone that has a channel for this normal every day cars. don't get me wrong, as i do enjoy watching the youtubers that buy and sell very expensive car, too, but this is along the lines of what most people would be able to do, and i love watching the normal cars videos. keep up the awesome work.
Fix the Exterra. I love it.
Yes randy bring back the xtera to fully fit to drive
Bring that xterra back to life.
Some vehicles come with StabiliTrac, this Nissan comes with a GospelTrac and now i see why. You prayed more driving that hill. Xterra, bringing you closer to God.
First thing to check in this truck is the SMOD FLUID in the radiator.
Fix it sell it, $1500?? Could still serve someone well for many years,
Nissan Used to make good vehicles before they merged with Reno and Mitsubishi.
Two tricks with batteries, 1st give a good thump on the grass ( they get lead particles below the plates shorts out the cell, the thump will settle the particles down ) 2nd put it on a good wall charger for 24hrs check acid level, let it have a good charge up!!
The Xterra is worth fixing up.
Congratulations 🎉👏 Randy
