  • Things you’ll only understand if you’re an INFJ! From shyness to being an introvert we look at the world’s rarest personality type from the Myers Briggs personality test
    15. All by Myself - INFJs are known for being inside their heads most of the time, having more inner dialogue than what they express around other people. Because of their neverending string of thoughts, it’s easy for them to feel isolated, even when they’re surrounded by friends. It may seem contradictory, but people who possess this personality type feel lonelier in a group than they do when they’re actually alone. Since INFJs are within the lowest percentile of the sixteen character varieties, they often sense that they’re misunderstood. Extroverted people feed off of those around them, gaining energy by being a part of social gatherings, but for INFJs it’s the opposite. It can be anxiety-causing, stress-inducing, and draining for not-so-social-butterflies to have to participate in interactions like this.
    14. Communication - Since people with this personality type are so introverted, it is surprising that they are experts in communication when they open up. INFJs are intelligent, often book-read, and take a lot of time considering other people’s feelings. Plus, they are said to be able to sense the emotions of those around them. So, by examining these factors, one can see how INFJs can speak effectively to individuals and large groups if need be. In fact, there are many famous people with this personality type that everyone recognizes for their amazing speech-giving skills. Some of these renowned human beings include Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa. In fact, Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is one of the most memorable and moving orations of all time. Although it isn’t set in stone, these remarkable people are often classified as INFJs. So, even though they often prefer not to be outspoken, some of the recommended career paths for these unique folks are acting, marketing, teaching, and social working.
    13. Organization - We’ve already discussed that INFJs have a constant chain of thoughts and an insane amount of inner dialogue. Because their brains are never at rest, it isn’t shocking that they sometimes feel mentally jumbled. Due to the lack of organization within, it’s important for them to maintain a harmonic atmosphere in their homes, at work, or at school. Keeping a calm environment helps INFJs deal more efficiently with the turmoil they face inside on a daily basis. It’s not fun to process a million thoughts at once, meanwhile dealing with clutter around the house. So if your INFJ friend is coming over, be a pal and tidy up, buttercup!
    12. Intuitive - Considering it is the second word in the acronym for this personality type, it’s not surprising that these unique people are very intuitive. Opposed to their detail-focused counterparts, INFJs are more abstract. They pay more attention to overall events than specific aspects. So, rather than remembering the particulars of a conversation they had or precise interactions, they recall experiences by how they felt during them and from the impressions they left. INFJs are also often known for “reading between the lines.” While most people pay attention to what is explicitly said or done to them, people with this personality trait recognize the meaning behind incidents or individuals’ actions. Their intuition also plays into the fact that they trust their feelings more than what actually happened to them. INFJs have more faith in their perceptions than they do in logic, thus making decisions based on instinct instead of rationale. This reliance on intuition also determines their thought-process regarding problem-solving and often leads to eliminating ideas before attempting to follow through with them if they suspect a negative outcome.
    11. Helping Others - Although they can seem withdrawn during interactions with others, don’t think that INFJs don’t care or aren’t listening. In fact, folks with this personality type care a lot about the people they come into contact with, especially if they’re close to them. Their focus on those around them is a strong guiding factor in how they behave. Their main goal is usually to keep things running smoothly and make their friends and family happy. INFJs experience a lot of emotions that go along with their aspirations to help. They frequently believe they know how people are feeling, and although what they perceive isn’t always correct, they generally think they recognize what someone needs. In fact, sometimes INFJs are so intent on keeping others content, they often forget about themselves.

INFJ here. The smiling issue: I'm an educator and have had to tell my students that just because I'm not smiling isn't because I'm mad. I tell them I have a "thinking face" on. My upper grade students totally get it. Ever since I realized this, it's made teaching a lot easier. Usually the extrovert students get up enough nerve to test out if I'm mad or not by approaching to tell a joke. I laugh and then the more introverted students approach me... Because us introverts observe most of the time 😉 it's the cutest thing when they figure out body and facial ques.

As an INFJ, good genuine small talks comes easily to me via a couple of choice questions. However, if they give crappy answers or show disinterest I feel disappointed and start to throw up barriers. But hey, I dont have to bother about liking them anymore. So, some of my go to questions would be like, "So, have any plans this weekend? (movies, anything)" But it isn't just about the plans, you can go much further. E.g. The person doesnt have anything planned. "No plans, really? Do you prefer to relax at home? Me too! etc, etc" If the person is going hiking "Oh wow! where? tell me more about it" . "Video games?" What do you play, what do you love about those games? Typically, if its a subject that I'm knowledgeable about I'll add my own perspectives and stuff e.g. musical. If its something that I'm unfamiliar, then I ask tons of questions, I want to know more about why they love that thing/topic/hobby. I'm usually drawing more connections subconsciously in the background like, is this person genuine, do i feel comfortable, etc. It takes practice sure but once you've done it a few times, you dont have to think about any more. Also, people really like others who are genuine which is a huge bonus for us!

BSJ yep. Alone you can be free to do whatever - read, fold laundry, clean out a drawer, watch your tv show...or is that just me? In a crowd you feel pressured to “entertain” with stories and hate being put on the spot. Or is that just me?🤣🤣

    • @Brisco1
      @Brisco1 Před 5 lety +25

Wendy that might be part of it, being free to do whatever you want when alone. But for me it's also that I don't seem to know how to socialize the way other people do. I've heard it described this way: to an INFJ observing other people interacting socially, their conversations seem to follow a linear flow, where one thing will lead into the next. But the INFJ does not follow this pattern. In our minds we go all over the place, exploring each topic more fully, and bounce around in all directions, not a linear flow. It's described in this video starting at 1:45 (though I certainly recommend the entire video): czcams.com/video/aeNXy_DCFTI/video.html . Do you identify with this description? Perhaps INFJ is more comfortable alone because we're not attuned to the social patterns of others, so instead of feeling "put on the spot", it's easier to do our own thing.

It’s perfectly awesome and normal to talk to yourself, so long as you don’t answer yourself. My Doctor always told me, “you’ve got to talk to yourself.” I don’t like talking about this while attaching a label to myself. I enjoy reading what everyone else has to say but to me it’s the same as talking about my drinking problem. If I choose to share that’s one thing but I hate it when other people start talking about how I quit drinking and all of the stupid things that I’ve done. It feels the same. We are all very different but share this exciting and mysterious quality. It’s great learning about it, however it is interrupting my Linux time, bed time and my cats/reading time, I didn’t do the dishes or work in my lawn today either. I did go shopping though so at least I got dressed and left my house. Winner.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with 30 years of experience dealing with people. I was branded a INFJ quite sometime ago. I never really accepted that evaluation because placing 'labels' on people puts them into a box. It limits their potentiality and personal growth. At worse, it can destroy a individual's self determination and freedom. I have never encountered a 'classical' INFJ before. Why? Because certain characteristics of this personality type have many subgroups some of which overlap other MBTI personality types. That being said I will describe the characteristics of how a 'orthodox' INFJ thinks, behaves and responds in strict accordance with the MBTI Personalty Test. Be forewarned, I find some INFJ 'stereotypes' rather funny. And will approach such in a humorous fashion. INFJ's posess a wonderfully unique sense irony and will immediately recognize the silly 'stereotypes' others have attrubuted to them.....So lts break some myths about INFJ Personalty Types.
When a INFJ gives you the dreaded 'Death Stair' they are not sttempting to understand you. They are wondering if you're carrying a gun. Killing INFJ's is a pleasurable experience. Why? Because everyone hates a smart ass.
INFJ's frequently experience 'Sensory Overload' issues. They love Forests, Parks and Woodland areas to recharge their batteries. Why? Because trees don't talk! A squirrel cannot complain it has 'Daddy Issues'. Pine trees do not suffer from 'gender identity' problems. And I have never seen a bunny rabbit strung out Crack Cocaine. Solitude is bliss.
Never say to a INFJ, 'I do not understad', They will run away screaming or jump infront of a bus. No one understands them. INFJ's sometimes don't even understand themselves.
Why do a INFJ 'Door Slam' people? Because it's called a Coping Mechanism. They dislike being emotionally hurt. There is nothing strangebecome acholics others pill poppers. INFJ's will just run away and per you never existed. It never works.
INFJ's have the psychic ability to absorb people's emotions. No. This is phenomen is called 'Transference'. If you continuously talk about your problems, a INFJ will unconsciously adopt some aspects of your emotional state. However, INFJ's posess strong identities which prevents them from going completely insane.
INFJ's are the most honest, compassionate and sensative people on Earth. Not really. Mother Nature just screwed them up genetically. They're brains are hard wired to respond during crisis situations. A 'diehard' INFJ will instinctively sacrifice their life attempting to save yours. No questions asked. Why? I have no freaking idea. I didn't invent the rules. Ask God. I'm sure She knows.
INFJ's think differently than others. Yes. They think outside the box. They live outside the box. They have never actually seen the box. What does it look like? Does it contain groceries?
INFJ types are occasionally arrogant, cold towards others and aloof. This is actually true. Being omnipotent has its drawbacks. INFJ's have a difficult time sugar-coating the truth. Being overtly honest is their trademark. However, if they sense someone cannot handle the truth, they lie to protect that person's feelings.
INFJ's are stubborn yet will openly admit to errors in judgment and making mistakes.
INFJ's think too deeply. They want to solve everyone's problems. They get frustrated when people ask for advice, then completely ignore their recommendations. They do not understand why everyone keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. Eventually, a INFJ will simply give up. The phrase 'People need to learn the hard way' was invented by a INFJ. So was the 'unfriendl' button on Facebook.
INFJ's do not respect authority because they have developed their own Moral, Ethical, Spiritual and Cognative belief systems. Mature (older) INFJ's care very little about how people perceive them and less about the impressions they make upon others. INFJ's enjoy approval and acceptance (like everyone else) but infrequently compromise their princepals to simply fit in.
Do not mistake a INJ's confidence as egocentrism. There is a difference.
INFJ hate themselves. They feel alone within the world and misunderstood. Being a INFJ a curse. Consequently, a small minority INFJ's often experience psychological Depression, Alienation issues and Avoident Behavior problems. The phrase 'You are your own worst enemy' accurately describes a INFJ's perception of themselves.
The most admirable personality traits of the INFJ are (1) INFJ's care more about other people than themselves which makes them a easy targets for emotional exploitation and abuse. Never play 'Guilt Games' with a INFJ. They already persecute themselves (subconsciously) for being different. They don't have the ability to forgive themselves for past mistakes, A INFJ's unforgiving 'Guilt Complex' is an integral part of their personality. INFJ's have occasionally been known to slowly kill themselves over time, believing they deserve such suffering. 'Hell on Earth' is their punishment and they willing accept it....sometimes. Not always. (2) Once you secure the trust of a INFJ, everything about them suddenly becomes clear. The stereotypes vanish. They are people you want within your life. They have incredible insight into human nature and will identify your weaknesses and lift you up from darkness. Seeing the world through a INFJ eyes is the greatest gift they can offer.
It would be impossible to understand a MBTI typology without stating the negative traits of a specific personality group.
The 'Dark Side' of a INFJ is rather frightening. Never test their 'Authenticity' or personal dignity. Do not play games with a INFJ. They have limitations like everyone else. A INFJ can determine your intentions or plans within minutes. Literally. This Hyperobservient behavior is quite unique. Avoid getting into heated arguments with a INFJ unless you are prepared to be intellectually, emotionally or psychologically castrated. They have cognitive resources almost beyond understanding. A vindictive INFJ will never stop until they destroy your life (this has nothing to do with physical murder). Such behavior is almost Psychopathic in nature (hence the concern INFJ's may be catorgized as possessing a Psychological disorder rather than a Personality dysfunction). INFJ's are not prone violent behavior. The good news is they give up easily, This is where the Door Slam or simply walking away from a argument comes from.
If a INFJ loves you, be prepared for lengthy romantic rituals. Box's of candy, flowers, poems, lovely e-cards, teddy bears and such. But be careful. A INFJ understands how to manipulate situations to their advantage. Including the human heart. Once they reveal their true inner nature however, you will begin to understand why only 2% of the world's population are INFJ's. They are just so dam charming.
INFJ's dislike small talk, idle conversations, superficial people and hypocrites. Life is too short talking to such individuals (but they understand its occasionally necessary to be socially accepted)
INFJ's are not spontaneous. They just pretend to be spontaneous. Their minds are always attempting to 'connect the dots' even when there are no dots.
Avoid getting into deep conversations with a INFJ. They are walking encyclopedias. They will jump from topic to topic then back again to support a idea or theory. Male INFJ's are 'scattered brained' in the worst way possible. But there is method to such madness. The are searching for the correct answer to a specific problem. And 95% of the time they will discover it... or have a complete nervous breakdown trying.
Occasionally, you will notice them acting rather mysterious, doing unusual things or just behaving weird. Get used to this behavior. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. The INFJ is just going through a 'stage' or experimenting with something that interests them. Like building a Thermonuclear Bomb or discovering a cure for Herpes.
Never tell a INFJ they possess a 'Old Soul'. They are terrified of being reincarnated again. INFJ's are aware that neither Heaven or Hell wants them. Why? Because God doesn't want the extra competition or deciding who should run the Universe (Him or a INFJ) and Satan can't deal with a INFJ pestering him for all eternity. That would be considered cruel and unusual punishment.
Aliens will never abduct a INFJ. There are some things too bizarre even for Extraterrestrials.
So next time you accidentally encounter a INFJ, break all COVID 'Social Distancing' issues and hug them. They are a endangered species. Literally. Whatever purpose they were created for has already been accomplished. I like to think they represent the noblest form of humanity. A personality type which everyone aspires to immulate....Intelligent, Wise, Caring, Altruistic and Protective.

It’s not that they describe you but rather that you are the definition of the characteristics. If that makes any sense ?

As an infj, i tend to get piss off easily by a person's attitude or moral but i'm angry at myself for thinking abt being angry at them so i just focus on their positive sides and love them as a whole 💕

I was like this but with some people focusing on positive sides and loving them as a whole can hurt you. Been there few times. :( I finally had to learn to not get hurt anymore and I just cut people off completely if their attitude or moral doesn't match my own. It's way healthier for me now and I don't feel as drained. Being INFJ is nice but at the same time it's exhausting. :(

I'm an INFJ-T myself. I have so many thoughts occurring at all times. I never feel like I truly fit in but understand people with an uncanny intuition. I love helping people, giving advice and watching people grow. If my partner is feeling down or stressed, I feel it too. I love to write and I love staying organized. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one.

You know you are an infj when you always do things perfectly but you have that nagging inner self whispering to you the millions of ways it could have been better 😂. Bottom line, I'm never satisfied with my work, even when everyone around appreciates it 🤧
