    That long piece of plastic isn’t for protecting windows, it’s for slipping over lock bolt and pulling it up. I’ve been doing roadside assistance for almost 4 years and have used something similar to that

    While working on my vehicle, with the battery disconnected, I locked my only key fob with built-in key, in the car. I used my air wedges and every trick I knew to get into my car and open the doors with no luck, but I didn’t have Wayne’s go-to tool. At the big box store I found a 4’ length of plain (unthreaded) 3/16” steel rod and bent it into the shape of the type of tools he describes as being sold for $50 or more on the internet. After trying for a while with my home-made tool, I finally got the door open and retrieved my car key. No windows broken, no permanent paint damage.
    The points I learned, the hard way, are (1) that the steel rod must be at least 1/4” in diameter, or it is too springy to work effectively, and (2) that 4’ is the absolute bare minimum length of an effective rod tool - it must be at least 5’ long to be useful. Both of these specs are in the video, and there are very good reasons he chose them. Thank you Wayne for sharing your experience in car opening in this video.

    I drive a 1998 Mercedes W-140 ( S320) and was locked out at the Mercedes dealership. They had similar equipment and they said it had never failed them before but after 20+ minutes they tapped out. They got a kid to drive me home to get one of my 4 spares. I sure would love to see you post your opening a W140. Then I would love to show it to show that to the dealership here in Westminster CO. Good post though. Thanks!

    i go to a local steel shop and buy 1/4 inch stainless steel , and then get the measurements of alll the major long reach tool designs , and some of the smaller ones which i will make out of thinner gauge wire. i can make the same 50 dollar long reach tool for 5$. i will also use rubberised coating to spray on the rod . i have an entire arsenal of long reach tools for all scenarios i made which anyone can do , some tools i will thread or knurl the ends to add for some extra grab on some certain doors..but one tool you can buy thati do really loveis the access tools unlock tool with the wire inside that you pull and it tightens on those knobby lock types..absoltutly love that tool , butsome vehicles doesnt work as great. good vid

    I found that the best best air wedge, the cheapest and strongest.... Home depot.

  • @scottgalloway2830
    @scottgalloway2830 Před 8 lety +2

    that plastic strip isn't to keep you from scratching the window, it is for opening cars with a vertical button. You can use it to pull the vertical buttons that do not sit flush with the door (most newer gm). I would recommend the steck manufacturing 32930, as it has a piece of sand paper to help grip the button. It looks like the air wedge you have is(aside from hpc) pro-lok? I had issues with pro-lok as well as hpc (valve issues over time). I really like access tools air jack.
    I make my own long reach tools, 6 foot piece of steel...3/16-1/4 in round steel. before bending, put 2-3 layers of heat shrink over it...except for 4 inches or so on each end.(protects from scratching door frame. Bend both ends into L...on one end bend last 3/4 of an inch into anothe 90 degree angle(like an L with a serif).
    Really not trying to troll you wayne ; ). I need to find the time to start putting some videos together.

    • @waynewinton
      @waynewinton  Před 8 lety

      the black rod is homemade. I use rubberized truck bed liner to keep it from scratching. you can use the plastic either way as a protector for tinted windows (if it's not a top mounted lock with a nub) or it can be used as you described. valves can get stuck but if they do just use some penetrating lubrication (something oily) and it will free it up. they don't like the cold either.

    • @BoredLockpicker
      @BoredLockpicker Před 8 lety +1

      +Wayne Winton I use the smaller hpc air wedge. I've had the valve shoot out of the bulb twice. I lost it the second time. I was able to just buy some new bulbs on eBay for like six bucks. I also carry an access tools button grabber it has a steel cable looped at the end. Allows to pull the verticals buttons up real easy. I used to use a rod for that but occasionally it would pop the top off of them on older cars.

    Any hints for opening a door that has both the inside and outside handles unhooked? I have a 2009 Subaru Outback and the rear driver's side door outside handle is not hooked up. It lifts freely. I was able to open it from the inside. The inside handle let go before I could get it fixed. Now I need to open it so I don't destroy the door panel trying to get in. Any suggestions?

Or you can waste hours at I'm trying to wedge the real artwork entry lock itself and pull the handle which can be done with a good rubber tip on your reach tool in the right bin but skip wasting all the time and reach and pop the hood and unhook the battery so then the real locking system has no power to Relock . Dumb auto theft system beating lol

      +Wayne Winton I was looking to order assa drivers for challenge locks, the ones I found for $9.95 a bag are assa 600 A,B,C,D pins which I assume are barrel spools. the other driver said assa 600 top closing pin, do you know what that is?

    He made a mistake by saying he purchased this at US Lock, the packaging shows it to be Pro-Lok, which does have this kit.
