You know what, I loved this guy. Gareth Gerloff. I thought he was a typical American. But no, What a genuine, down-to-earth person. Now onwards will definitely notice him during race weekend.
Garrett is such an awesome guy. I had the pleasure of riding on track with him in 2008 at Jason Disalvo speed academy. He had just turned 16 and was more excited about driving a truck around the track than riding bikes. Have been following his career since then and can’t wait to see him break out in WSBK. He was absurdly fast at 16 already.
Some of the stuff that he said around the 42:00 mark really hit home. I was once in engineering school and when I started, I sucked horribly at math. There were many months where I thought I was going to fail a class, and have to drop the program but I buried my head in my studies and locked myself in rooms and practiced the equations and learned the material. You are definitely defined by the difficult times in life. Many times, I felt like life was asking me "Hey man, do you really want this degree? Or are you just here to say you want it?". It's funny now because when I tell people I'm an electrical engineer they say "Oh well you must have been really good at math and studies you're whole life." but they couldn't be more wrong. Anything worth having in life will require risk and sacrifice. Do what the man said. Go for it.
Man I'm right there with you. I tell everyone that in my upper classes every textbook looked like hieroglyphics at the beginning of every semester and it made me really question if it was truly what I wanted and if I had what it took. And there were some nights I just laid face down on my bed questioning all my decisions that put me there. But I'd set my alarm, wake up, and get to work. Sure enough, the hieroglyphics would slowly start to make sense. And I'd do more work, and slowly what the professor said would become clearer.. And now here I am, an electrical engineer. Anything worth having isn't easy.
I had the exact same problem in math. Also I wanted to be an electrical engineer. Electronics came to me so easy that I didn't take it serious enough. I had to bone up on math and my love of bikes steered me to mechanical engineering. Mechanical did not come as natural so it was a challenge to get that degree but I did it. I got a job that used both mechanical and electrical so it all worked out in the end. And during all that, I worked through the ranks at Willow Springs and then WERA and finally got to race at the national level with an AMA Pro license. Definitely can't complain! I'm a big fan of GG31. I like how he always seems to improve no matter what.
This is my favorite video this channel has ever produced. Absolutely loved every second of listening to Garret. I hope he does exceptionally well, he has such a pleasant, humble and lovable personality. He deserves the best!
As soon as I started watching the video I thought about the BT interview with Valentino and Garrett being the only rider out of the 175 that Valentino raced against, that he never beat (34:37 from the youtube video btw). Love Garrett's energy, already subscribed to his channel!
Im huge fan of Garrett. He is my favorite WSBK rider. And now, after these videos with him I like him even more. Such a cool guy. End of July he will be racing in my country (Czech Republic). Cant wait cross fingers for him here!
this is the best advertisement for "Garrett Gerloff", watching wsbk for long, he's just been the crazy guy to watch out for... they never show anything to do with riders' personality... learn a lot of about him today...
Garrett seems like such a solid dude. I didn't follow WSBK or MotoGP actively but getting a bit more in it. It's interesting to hear Garrett's history both bad and good. So awesome he's inviting Yams over for a race as well. I bet he would love it since he really is a track day enthusiast. I subbed to his channel already, love to see more of him.
Fantastic interview. Had so many misconceptions about Garrett through the regular channels. He is such a cool and honest dude. Gained another fan for sure.
Excellent interview, Garrett's personality really shines through. As far as I'm concerned any properly fast rider will crash and have sketchy moments when coming through and I think he took his hard year too much to heart. There's a front running rider in there somewhere, all he (and the people around him) have to do is to find a way to let him out.
He's our Best shot at an American return to Moto GP. Been a fan for years. Qualifying better would have fixed that bad run of incidents. It's a tuff game. Great ride at Donongton.
Love watching Garrett, saw hit kick butt in motoamerica then we were stoked to see him on rossi's bike. His career has had ups and downs but we Houston boys believe in him!
Freaking coolest guy EVER!!!! I knew him as a rider but had no idea Garrett was this cool, and you could tell he's not acting.... 5 star guy!!!!! Yammie.... come to Portimão.... Um abraço
Great video! Been keeping my eye on Garrett since he went overseas to race. He's holding his own against the best riders. I wish him success, extended commitment to his race craft and safe/healthy racing.
I was just watching your video on your favourite bikes. I got to see a Honda 1978 CBX1100 six cylinder I got to hear one with a six into one at full throttle, vary loud. I also got my Kawasaki ZX4RR Dino turned, it totally transformed that bike, it feels like a two stroke. Have a great day
About his reputation after Assen, it’s maybe what he thinks. Garrett has been a favorite among the French journalists commenting WSBK. After Assen, those journalists were not very happy with how Yamaha treated him
Really one of the nicest professional riders. Had the pleasure of meeting him this weekend in Imola. Really fast an talented💪🏻 rooting for him big time
Loving it! Garrett is the one you could easily listen to for hours and know you'll get quality talk. So genuine, which makes everything so much more interesting. Feels really good to listen to you two.
I actually got a lot out of this. Coming back from a rough spot in your career isn't easy and owning it is what makes you a man. Good stuff brotha, keep rollin!
Dude!!! I went from watching the "beef" between you and #doitwithdan and you crashing head on into a yellow porsche to having the chance to go to the WSBK paddock and hang with riders and teams!!! And EVERYTHING in between! Pretty Cool bro. Glad you didn't give up on the two wheel PASSION!!! Cause if you didn't have that passion, it would've been a very easy thing to do back then. Maybe I can meet you one day. I'm only next door to Texas. Ride safe my brother.
Great motivation from you youngsters. I just want to fart around and be happy on two wheels. Pedal, gas or electric. It's fun to ride. I dig two wheel transportation. That was a good interview.
What a cool and talented guy. For many years i watched national championships beside WSBK and Mgp like BSB, Japanese championship , Moto America or Asia Road Racing. At least Beaubier and Gerloff are definitely the world class riders coming from U.S. . Maybe they did some mistakes when they had the chance to shine at the highest level but the world is not over yet. I hope Gerloff will get a factory ride in the future. Maybe along Toprak with Bmw. Bmw will rise in the future and that can be a good chance for Gerloff too. Anyhow one of my favorite riders on the grid .
For all the crap that scooter riders get, here we have someone who embodies the virtues of scooter ownership… Now to see yammie adding more scooter content and not disrespecting nor disregarding them.
Between this video, Garrett's channel and his recent appearance on the Pipe Dreams podcast, you get a good sense of who Garrett is. Good stuff! Let's GO Garrett!
Brilliant interview Mr. Noob. I actually thought Mr. Gerloff is some spoiled brainless reckless dude, but he is a great guy indeed. Unfortunately all you see when watching WSBK tells you NOTHING about the personality of the riders. Would be great if you could keep that stuff comeing!
First I just wanted to say I love your content! I have been binge watching your content. Love the interview but where Garrett is sitting with that bright white light is hard to watch.
Dont think, say , feel ANYTHING negative (like a guru from india) of a emotion. Ex: if you had every test question at dmv DONT EVEN LOOK AT THE WRONG ANSWERS.
What a guy Yammie.. you didn't even put Garetts full CZcams and Instagram link.. man 😅😅😅 .. we'll still search him in YT but... What happened there.. Great interview other wise I belive you. Noob mistake
Yammi hes the only american he needs another american we have to have another GREAT AMERICAN to compete in world sbk. I once heard that usa is as big as were all those other riders were G.G. rides
@@Will_M600alentino Rossi had a very entertaining interview at the Isle of Man TT in 2009. You could tell that style of racing scared him a little and he was glad it was currently not part of the professional racing circuit.
Imagine if dorna treated Marquez the same way: if you make people in danger... You know.. Im so sorry for Garret.. becouse certain rules exist only for somebody...
Hey I just finished my msf and I was wondering if y’all can help me find the best beginner motorcycle but not cruisers can y’all help me I want one with power to ride on the interstate

The barriers we encounter while trying to achieve our goals are merely tests of our sincerity.

Rooting for Garrett this weekend, sick that he came by for these videos.
Not only is Garrett a really cool dude but he’s humble and a class act. Great interview PapaYams

It was a better show when InFront motorsports and Paolo Ciabatti ran the show. Now it's run by DORNA and Paolo is the sporting director for Ducati.
What a nice guy! Great interview...Awesome to hear his stories...

Only excepcional riders have a place in WSBK grid. Gerloff is one of those riders. Thank you for this video.
Man, once again blown away by how wholesome this dude is. Wish I had half the character Garrett has haha.
Such a nice Guy ! You should do more with him ! He is very honest and pure !

homeboy Garrett is living the life out in Andorra training on the roadie man. literal playground.
Great interview! Loved how he gave Gixxer Brah props at the beginning of the vid, ha. 👌💯

This is so wholesome, love that interview really keep it up everyone ❤🎉
“The gixxerbrah dude” says the professional racer
Very cool

Fully agreed! Been watching for years and scooter riders used to always be dissed. Hope Garrets bmw changed His mind
Best video yet Garrett is and has always been sick on a bike and a hella cool dude
This Interview is pure gold.
super interview!!!
Great interview!
hi great job, when you gonna interview Toprak? and have you managed to go to the races yet?
Great guy and racer. Best of luck.
Ofcourse we know Garett! We saw him at Assen 2021 motogp :)
Best of Luck Garrett Gerloff!
Awesome video real talk with Garrett 100%.
Really like GG comment about suffering in silence, club racing hardest thing I've done, can't imagine wsbk
Number 1 fan
Would love to see him on a factory bike.
Great video, inspiring actually…well done.

Gerloff is the best rider ! ❤

nah he's super humble. The AMA (technically MA) paddock lost out and good gain for SBK.

Heck of a nice, down to earth guy. Now become a killer on the BMW. Focus. From red lights out to checker flag, focus.

cool
Has he competed at the Isle of Man TT? If not does he plan to?
Doubt it, completely different skill set to wsb and nowhere in America to practice that sort of riding

VTR 1000 Firestorm. Cheap, reliable, and plenty of power.
He has a lot of videos about beginner bikes. The videos are easy to find on his channel.
His last name suggests Dutch roots.
1st. What up, Yammie and Garrett!!!

Wish the accident he had with Raz never happened ruined his career..
