When I owned and operated my transport company years ago, I had the Flir mounted in my trucks it was great for animals our road debris. As we start moving forward with our transition to the yachting world it is great to know that the technology is going to be an asset on the water. Thank you. Stay safe. Happy birthday Captain.

Happy Bday my friend. I as well suffered from mild sea sickness at night and found the FLIR works well at relieving some of it. A big trick that worked very well for me was the bigger the monitor the better. Hope it works for you and thnx to the both of you for the shows every week love following along.

I got a giggle from the size of your sun glasses! I'm sure they are designer, very cool, and work great, but I'm an old guy and I'd use them as a welding shield. LOL Still say your boat is the most well maintained home on the water! You guys and the videos are a class act, just a pleasure to watch and dream.

I think the FLIR will give you the horizon that is missing at night. That visual reference is critical for keeping your brain and eyes caged. I hope that makes sense. It important for the eyes to agree with the inner ear. Will the horizon on the flir move as the boat pitches and rolls or is it motion stabilized?
Another thing that may help is deliberate and slower head movements. Use your eyes rather than your neck to look up and down for sure.
If all of those things are obvious, forgive me for Mansplaining

I enjoy your adventures keep up the excellent videos. Better boating through technology. I would be very reluctant to drill a hole in a perfectly good boat, even if it is topside, but Sean had a good range of skills. I also enjoy watching Tony Fleming’s videos and he is always pointing out the dangers of logs in the PNW, so the FLIR is most likely a good investment. After all you cannot have too much tech or too many toys. I have been treated for dizziness( which caused the MDs to insist I sell my Harley) - Sean’s issues at night may be the in ability to occasionally orient himself by focusing on a distant object and thusly confuse the inner ear. Hope the new gizmos help.

You can see Cattle Point, buy some berries from the old Blue Truck and check out all the leaves on the trail that people have made into a bunch of crazy faces. Its a long way but very worth it.

Well first off, Happy Birthday Shawn !! The Flir installation was awesome and the resolution is great. We used Flir at my work and it really is fantastic at night. I was wondering how often do you exercise the wing engine and do you just run on it for a couple of hours every once in a while ? And while on the subject of boat systems, how is the Simply Safe system working out ? Well enough questions, Have a great weekend and enjoy the Tomahawk steak !! I always sprinkle all my steaks with Montreal steak seasoning and they are fantastic. Enjoy and take care.

I used to suffer from sea sickness in the pilothouse on my N43 when she was pitching, partially due to the fact the pilothouse is so far forward on that model. I had a flybridge, and found it better up there due to being in the open air, as well as being farther aft. Standing on the Portuguese bridge with the remote might help, as you would get more air.
    Best,

Black Hot will show the most detail to your eye. Hunters use white hot because living things stand out but terrian detail is lost. The unit picks up the same information in both modes but it presents it in different ways that your eye can decode.

  • @wizardgmb
    @wizardgmb Před 2 lety +1

A belated happy birthday to Shawn! How does the FLIR connect into the multifunction display? Does it reside on the high speed Ethernet network so it's accessible by the PC and handheld devices such as a phone or tablet? The multifunction displays and the PC might be a little low and small to be helpful with seasickness, perhaps you need a drop down flat screen TV; a 100" model should be sufficient! 😂
(Before someone takes my suggestion the wrong way... I am in no way making light of Shawn's sea sickness battle, one that I share. However, I may be a bit tongue in cheek about yet another addition to the preponderance of non-medication sea sickness remedies.)
Keep up the great videos and above all STAY SAFE! ⛵❤️😁

Think you'd be best to SousVide that Tomahawk after sawing off (and rounding the edge) of the bone. SV, then bung on a charcoal BBQ with your hairdryer as a forced-draft fan. Get the coals up to Bessemer Furnace temps! Meanwhile - saute some chopped shallots, garlic and rosemary to baste when off the BBQ. Rest, and slice. YUM !!!!

  • @gregbluefinstudios4658

AWESOME, that tomahawk looks good. AFTER you defrost, give the steak a chance to get to room temp. My preference? Rub a tiny bit of olive oil (helps to keep salt and pepper) on the steak, the coat w/ fresh cracked pepper (I do some black, red, and green peppercorns) and some fresh ground Sea Salt. Coat it.
onto as high a heat grill to sear it. then cook on a little lower heat until it is done right. (I prefer rare, but, however he likes it). LET IT REST 5 or so minutes, before serving. While it rests, I like to put a pat of butter, and let it melt before eating. You're not going to eat it all the time, so, why not add butter and salt? The next day, back to salad greens but once a year? let your palette enjoy.

I think a FLIR is as important as radar. I really love your boat I see it has a mast and a boom, if you wanted can you put up sails or are those for some other purposes? If I could afford more than a canoe I would have The Nordhaven motor sailor 56. A tomahawk steak is a bone-in ribeye. Happy motoring

We wanted one of this to see the critters in our backyard. czcams.com/users/postUgkxGix1RueFf66g4dKZ0w4Qsw_3Vv6Xqant The first thing that I like about this is that it has a rechargeable battery. The other is that it is small and fairly easy to use. The instructions weren't too great but we played with it awhile and figured it out. Can see very well in our back yard down to the woods which is roughly a football field length in the dark. There were certainly more expensive ones out there but this works for us and was within our price range. We have not tried the video recording portion and may update the review later.
