In the summer of 1968, I had finished my first year as a high school teacher in Minnesota. I decided to go to the LA area to see some of the cars that I had been reading about in Hot Rod and Car Craft. I spent nearly two months in Long Beach. That was my base from which to go to Irwindale Raceway, Lions Drag Strip and Orange County International Raceway. While I enjoyed the racing at Minnesota Dragways with maybe four funny cars or fuel dragsters with some Super Stock events, the number of cars at the California tracks was much more impressive. I'll never forget that summer.
You are correct about that .I live in sioux city Iowa nothingness is the Midwest for the most part no comparison to southern California I grew up in Arcadia & azusa 1960-1980 I wish those days would come back to me @ irwindale raceway Thursday nights speedway race's Friday night s motocross race's & on Saturday and Sunday nhra drag race's ❤🎉😂 I use walk to Irwindale raceway you could hear all of the events from our home 🏡 ✨️
I have a question I hope you can answer. Back in the 1070's in Portland Oregon there were radio adds for I think the drag races and they always said one thing at the end of the add, but I can't remember what it was. It was something like Getgetgetgetgetgetget it on. Any idea?
1968- I was 14 living in La Puente, my brother and I would ride our bikes there every weekend- it was like like Christmas morning every time..Magic!!

Irwindale was great they had a drag strip they had a motocross track they had a Speedway motorcycle track for a while.
