Do you sit at the airport queue?

The queue in Salt Lake City Utah has three times the drivers vs parking spaces. The app won’t give you an airport trip unless you’re in the right area and security is there keeping us out. I understand the lot manager’s position but Uber/Lyft need to increase the lot. There is no front of line after drop off anymore. It’s become practically impossible to make a decent living as a driver.
I tried it a few times, each time it was a waste of time. It is better to drive normally and get rides that way.
depends, airport rides pay at $$$$ 5-12 am.
7-year driver here. In my experience it’s not worth it to stay in the lot longer than 10 minutes. Sometimes, if I don’t get rematched right away I will drive to the lot, because I’ve gotten rematched before arriving, but if not I’m gone after 10 minutes. Everyone hopes for a big fat ride, but just as often it’s a daily flyer who lives 10 minutes from the airport. So, while my ‘competition’ sits in the time-out holding pen I’m back on the road because even short rides pay more than no rides. Lastly, thank you and Jay for always bringing us practical videos, as opposed to your teammates that just blabber on and on and who has time for that? You’re my favorite. Keep up the good work.
As a rule of thumb, don’t wait. You can wait for hours. There’s no guarantee that you will get a ride at all.
Never had to wait more than 15 mins
@@mikeknight6286Waited for hours, only to get an ultra short ride from cheapos that parked their car outside the airport to save several dollars… to make it even worse, they paired with another family to split the Uber fare.
As a result, six passengers and twenty suitcases in my XL car for a minimum fare and no tip after waiting for hours and loading and unloading twenty suitcases.
@@mikeknight6286Where? In a fantasy land?
I have tested five airports in my area. You spend at least an hour in airport queue to get a ride, can be over 4 hours… only to get a $3 ride to an airport hotel or parking lot… This was before upfront fares.
Six airports I tested:
1. SNA
2. LAX
3. SAN
4. BUR
5. LGB
6. ONT
Nashville is 15 min or less always
The airport lot felt extremely dystopian and depressing me to me. When I drive around picking people up , it's fun and it makes money. waiting for people on the lot, it feels like I am a taxi driver... weird, but that's how I feel.
Speaking on behalf of Denver International Airport, the airport queue at the commercial waiting lot is a HUGE money loser.
I tried it once, sat for over an hour, and the queue for both Lyft and Uber only advanced maybe 10 drivers. Lyft had over 40 drivers and Uber had over 40 drivers. I would have waited hours to get my next ride. I saw too many people just sitting in their cars or shooting the breeze with each other as well as all the other shuttle and taxi vehicles.
I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander. 8 out of 10 times, I always get requests when approaching the terminal for drop off, or right after I drop off. The airport queue commercial lot means absolutely nothing.
If I don't get a request at the terminal, I drive away and head west towards Denver where there is bound to be a ride request within 10 minutes.
If you are not moving with a passenger, you are not making money. Sitting around waiting in an airport queue commercial lot, even with a $15-$20 surge, is dumb.
I won’t work DIA anymore, 125 Lyft drivers in the queue. It’s over saturated and pointless now
Its like that for the commercial lot at every airport. In some areas, its the only way to make any amount of money doing Black.
well you shouldn’t but that is the 100% guaranteed place to pick up non drunks, good tippers and business people.
I still don't understand drivers who wait in the airport queue. In my market (Tampa), the airport queues are routinely "full" which means at least a 2 to 3 hour or longer wait. 90% of the rides coming out of the airport are NOT particularly lucrative. 7 out of 10 times when I drop someone off I get a rematch.
I’ll help
As Bill Nye would say, please consider the following 😊
Depending where you live, airport riders generally don’t do stuff like adding stops, adjusting the ride otw (still this but rare due to the short timeframe). Airport riders normally tip much better because they were prepared to get a Lyft. F.E. They didn’t get one because they are broke and don’t have a car! (Harsh, but true!) one thing people dont consider is the networking benefits as well!
It won’t be a trip coordinator bullshit broke ass Medicaid rider who NEVER TIP.
Elite drivers skip the queue. My game plan is drive brokes, drunks, dialysis, etc when Lyft is tipping “for them” on bonus hours and turbo. Then, take my Elite entitled ass to the Airport and bump out the queue (Elite drivers jump ahead 30mins).
@@idleoutcaster I do agree that airport riders are generally better than a random X riders going from here to there. And of course different markets and different airports can be very... different. But one thing most airports have in common is that the waiting queue can be long. Often very very long.
In my market (Tampa), the airport waiting queue is routinely 90 minutes to 3 hours. The airport is right in the city and the vast majority of pickups out of the airport are in the $10-$15 range. Many even less. There are some $25-$35 trips going to St Pete, Clearwater, or the beaches, which are decent because you're then in relatively busy area. But anything going north, east, or southeast that pays well is because you're going a lot of miles out into the sticks. So one way or another you're most likely eventually deadheading that time & miles back.
My main question for riders who wait in the queue is, what do they do with the waiting time?
@@MJSmithGroup Elite status Lyft. Thank me later 😉
Also, they been through the TSA. I haven’t. I got the 1 up.
@@MJSmithGroup chill and hangout with other drivers.
Those drivers from Somalia and Ethiopia are the reason the pay went down because they accept low ball offer and kept their acceptance rate around 80%.
Here in Orlando when I go into the airport, I’ve noticed that UberX Is the less desirable for the other drivers. When I end up at the airport I’ve noticed that I’ll be way down on the queue for both Uber and Lyft and suddenly I will get an UberX request. My rule has been if I drop off at the airport I’ll stay there for 10 to 15 minutes if I don’t pick up anything I leave the area and head off back to a more busier area. I try not to miss the opportunity, I love getting those rides out of the airport sometimes those are the big boosters of my day.
I didn’t have much luck in OIA with hundreds of drivers available. My daughter sits at the Wawa off 436 and it works for her. Good luck!
The Wawa down the street is the best spot by the airport
Sounds like your airport sucks. I get $40 rides with $15 tips.
I only wait if it’s slow everywhere else and there is minimal wait at the airport. The odd time I’ll wait if it’s time for a break, then I’ll sit there and eat lunch. But like you I almost never have to.
I only do airport drop offs. I turn off the app since it doesn’t show me the destination (we don’t have upfront fares). Even with destination filter, the Uber app just keeps sending me towards Detroit.
Sure if you want to take a nap lol
😂😂😂😂 this the only reason 😂
This is the way
The drivers who sit there for hours are the dumbest drivers there are.
FUCK NO! Do NOT do it! Complete WASTE OF TIME!!!
😂😂😂
Hi atleast in Houston Tx we are able get rid off airport pickup permit it was free but was gradually becoming long permit processing time causing problems for drivers finally during COVID-19 Uber and Lyft was able to get rid from it. Now i work lyft stay in the area n not accepting trips to airport as they decreased the long trip price for drivers. In short trip you manage to make $1.00 per mile plus less drive.
in las vegas i wait in the airport queue only uber ,, lyft is paid only 5 usd ! sometimes wait time is 14 minutes uber x , confort and uber premiun around 40 minutes!
I'm not an Airport Dweller. On any given day there will be 150 Drivers in the Queue
That may take 3 hours. Then someone gets a 10.00 ride. That below minimum wage
Same here in ATL. Make it make sense
its a shame , making less than twenty dollars per hour ! I am surprised why nobody protest , complaint or file a law sue against UBER and LYFT
Ive never understood why people sit and wait in the lot. I will typically get a ride immediatley as soon as I exit the airport and a lot of times when I drop off someone
I never have to wait for a long time at the Indianapolis waiting lot. There's way too many cherry pickers
Simple answe *No* unless Lyft or Uber give you an immediate ride after your airport drop off.
It can be worth it on Lyft. When rides are turned down, you can pick them on Lyft regardless of where you are in the line… Uber is not worth it at all, especially if route Uber X
It’s 2.5-3hrs at LAX even with priority que it’s over 1.5hrs. I’m good hard pass!
Are you getting priority pickups at LAX , it puts me in a general que starting this year after a drop off , so no more priority que. are you getting those ?
@@DeltaScalper I did earlier this month. I’m not sure if it’s different because I do black and lux only but even then it makes you wait way too long it’s not worth the time.
@@ManAndMachine23 I see , I just do x and comfort with Tesla 3 , that sux because if we don’t get any calls from nearby hotels , stuck in the shitty area with traffic in every direction .
sfo diamond, I have the same experiences you, I drop off and get a rematch or sent to priority queue, and I can go into the airport holding lot and pick up a trip radar, but 99% of the time 7 days a week at SFO there is over $1,000 drivers in the three parking lots and there is 100 to 200 people trying to get in at all times so it's absolute waste of time and yes I think they all just hang out and camp there
I have been driving for Uber for 5 years and I have almost 17k rides in Phoenix. When I first started with Uber I tried waiting at the airport but i would sometimes wait for almost 30 minutes. If you dont have a passenger you are losing money. Better to leave the airport and pickup elsewhere.
Tbh don’t go into the lot park away from it I always get rides before people that’s waiting
In Chicago by O'Hare to get a pickup from the terminal one must wait in the lot for their turn. But here it is a good place to take a break with a lot of clean port a potties and a food truck most days. At the same time while waiting for that airport pickup the area around the lot can give you rides since it is known for a lot of hotels and convention centers. So trip radar can be going off with that. I'll often set up a reservation ride or two too the airport very early in the morning, then wait at the airport for a pickup. Then wherever that pickup leads I'll make a bunch of short rides, maybe switch to Lyft if Uber is dead in that area.
Waited 2 hrs and got charged 50 quid big loss no airports for me anymore
Does not the car that delivers at the airport have priority over the holding lot?
I tried waiting in the Sacramento airport queue once, it was a complete waste of time, was there for about 30 minutes and gave up and left
I waited an hour and I got a ride for $120.00 and was 1 hrs trust me it’s worth it ..would you leave the airport where you can get $25-70 rides for $5-10 crappy riders?,
In LAX 17$ for 9 miles would be a terrible Uber request ,would never accept that . Lyft pay is way worse than Uber,so that’s why drivers usually prefer to stay in Uber queue over Lyft queue
Ive sat in the lots at multiple airports and ive only seen a bunch of unprofessional looking drivers sitting around sometimes playing checkers or dominoes while my app was blowing up with rides... its a free for all... and its disgusting... multiple times i have driven to the terminal where there are literally hundreds of people waiting for rides
Newer driver here. I have not yet got a chance to get the airport permit but the other day I was driving near the MSP airport to MOA to wait for a ride. I got pinged to go directly to terminal 1 skipping the lot and wait for a ride. Sweet, I thought maybe since i don't have a permit I can bypass the lot? Well drove all the way to the Uber parking spots at the terminal and then the app told me I could not be placed in the qeue because I didnt have the proper permit. WTF Uber!?!? I wasted those miles and time navigating into the airport for nothing...
Don't waste your time at the airport, first off here in vegas the 1000 Cuban drivers will be in the queue and make it full, then after that the Muslims will be in it, these are all former taxi drivers and it shows
How does it show that they're former taxi drivers?
@@ettenikol because they smell and act like taxi drivers
Because Uber killed the taxi business@@ettenikol
@@ridesharevegasthat’s really rude to say 😢
@@DivaliciousbyDawnn do not care what you think
I never did, ever since I started, I knew from the jump it was a waste of time and money. In my city there's 60 plus cars in a small lot and the wait time would be 45 mintues to an hour.
Anyone from Columbus, Ohio stay away from the airport.
waiting in the airport lot is a nightmare.
Never understood the holding lot. I just assumed they were all new drivers who aren't getting immediate request. If I don't get a request, I leave. The holding times can be up to 1.5 hours. I tried it 1 or 2x over the past 6 years. I think occasionally I get reset and have to build up priority after taking long periods a few months away from Uber to get back to immediate request after drop off.
Airport permit is free in my market. I've never had to pay for it in the 6 years of rideshare driving. I'm in SF.
A permit to pickup/drop off at airports and a fine for not having one? Oh, hell no! I would NOT be doing any airport runs! There aren't any requirements in my area and if I don't get a pick up request within 5 to 10 minutes of dropping off, I'm out of there. I do better just driving to a busy area or back home. I never just go to the airport to wait.
I never expected, nor do I expect, it is not worth carrying people
Working as a Uber driver you see how hypocritical people are . And you go to a restaurant/bar you “have “ to tip them . Otherwise they are gonna see you with bad eyes and probably serve you and treat you bad if you come back to the same place . But when you are going to pick up those people at their jobs, or going to college to pick up those kids who sometimes work in those kind of places YOU NEVER GET CENT OR A COIN FROM THEM!!! For me now it’s like this… good customer service = good tips 👍, bad customer service = fuck you 🖕🏻
It's usually a waste of time unless when it's surging
Ive waited in the lot before and it was a waste of time. Normally after I leave and start driving away is when i get a request
MSP is the best!!
I never wait in the lines its been my luck all most every time I get a ride when dropping off if I dont then oh well keep it moving 😂
How do you get an airport permit?
Nope I got charged a parking fee in St. Louis but writing it off. I got a couple from Columbia no parking or holding time
As always, Thank you for the hard work. As for the tokens... The more BS promos they put together , the more obvious it is that they aren't paying properly!!!!!! I'll be sitting home of FEBRUARY 14th
In the past it worked like a charm, now I have to ant my life away to make any money
Drivers lingering standing stop to create traffic at the airports and both platforms will not adhere to the airport authority especially sfo sjo oak 😅
Why do people wait?
You just plain kick you out without even sending a request
Never been to one. 😂 The wait is long.
Rideshare IS DEAD GET THAT THROUGH YOUR BALD HEAD!!
And why exactly are you here…?
Chicago Ohare que waste of time. "Short wait" wound up being an hour.
I don’t generally
