    Thank you for this video. I like your style of teaching. I was able to get my pressure washer running again. Honestly, the biggest challenge for me was getting the dang thing off the engine. I've had bad luck in the past disassembling things. Too many parts left over so this time, I was very careful, took lots of pictures and wrote down my removal steps. That made it easier to reassemble and make sure I didn't leave anything off. Again. Thanks so much

    Thanks to the power of CZcams. I was watching your video because I thought my pressure washer engine was going to need a full carb cleaning. Then the first thing you mentioned about the main jet bolt in the bottom of the cup sounded like it could be my exact problem. The engine would run for 1-2 seconds and then cut off. So it wanted to run, but was acting like it would get no fuel. Let it rest 30 seconds and it would crank again for 1-2 seconds. Since that bolt is at the lowest point and the natural place for sediment to collect, it explained my problem. I didn't even have to take the carb off to check it. And boy was it clogged. A good cleaning and put back in and the engine cranked and ran with no problem. Thanks a bunch.

  • @47f0
    @47f0 Před rokem +1

    Sometime around 2017, Briggs, in their infinite wisdom, decided the metal float valve needle and rubber seat was bad, so they made a rubber tipped float valve needle with a valve seat that is a solid brass slug, pressure fit into the carburetor.
    It's part of the Brigg's carburetor kit part number 592172. The only way I've gotten those things out is by using a 1/4 by 20 tap to put threads on the inside of that brass seat, then using a long quarter inch bolt with a nut and a collar just big enough to allow the brass valve seat to pass through it. Thread bolt into the valve seat, then use the nut to tighten down against the collar to pull the whole assembly out.
    Pressing the new float valve seat in can also be finicky. It's easy, because of the soft brass, to put a little lip on the inside of that brass valve seat, and when you do, the float needle can bind up. The first and only time I had that happen I was using a small wrench socket to tap the valve seat home, it put a couple of marks on top of that brass valve seat that left a lip - a small wooden dowel works better.

    Thank you. Thank you. I had a $1000 wood chipper with 5.5HP Briggs and Stratton engine that stopped working after just one year. After seeing your video I decided to take the carburetor apart and clean every part of it. After putting it together it started on the first try !

    This helped me. I had the brass jet apart 2 times, cleaning it out. I got it running a little bit, for 20 seconds at a time. Then you explained how to clean out the little jet center hole with a bread wrapper wire. So I took my jet out again. Holy crap, that thing was full of hard black junk. After reaming it with the bread wrapper wire and blowing it out, reinstalled the jet. Now I'm using my push mower again for the first time in 2 years. Thanks!

    Steel guitar strings work fine as well. High E is .010" Lower E is .046"

      Yes, and the guitar string doesn't deform like the soft wire of a twist tie does when you have to poke it down blind passageways, like in some Honda Carburetors.

    If you know someone who plays guitar, ask them for an old "B" string that they might have after changing strings. It's the perfect size for cleaning carbs!

    Thanks, Steve. Great video with clear instructions and good images. I have both a lawn mower and a snow blower and have eliminated things like spark plug or air filter...so, carburetor it may be. Will post back if it works. My only concern is skin contact with carb cleaners, so that part I will avoid.

    Great channel! Had a Briggs running a little ruff after a few minutes. I followed your advise that 9 times out of 10 the carbs are clogged at the main jet and that was the case with mine. I didn’t even have to remove the carb. If your ever in Northern Illinois I owe you a beer! Thanks!!

    I also like steel wool for heavily soiled carb bowls. Couple other things to add. Wear safety glasses around carb cleaner and use outdoors. Stuff wreaks. Don't use any object larger than the hole for cleaning you don't want to enlarge them. Especially on the main jet. Also, inspect the tip of the needle for a groove it indicates if it needs to be replaced. One other thing. I dont like to get carb cleaner on the rubber gaskets, especially on older ones. Seems to dry them out and they'll fail. Remove before cleaning, carefully with a razor blade

    I have my own shop of 12 years now. One of the first things I learned was to STOP USING CARBURETOR CLEANER! I only use brake cleaner. You can install a rubber seat on one of those push mower carburetors. Hook up the float and needle...then squirt some carb cleaner into the intake where you installed the seat. Hold carburetor horizontally and watch the float start rising!! Carb cleaner make rubber seals swell big time!
