I have done this with my ASDW 56" bow a while ago and has held up really well ... I even made a video showing it off after I did cause it turned out so nice. I never filed the edges like you did ... I just pressed the limb upside down hard into a rubber Matt and cut it right up close to the edge, and it turned out fine. Very good detail on how to do this.
It’s a great look, and it’s super durable, the Samick Sage in this video still has the same tape on after all this time. Personally I’m not a fan of using a knife to trim the tape, something like a box cutter could make a real mess of the limbs if it were to bite into the edge, I think a file is safer, but that’s just me, there’s no right or wrong way to trim the edges. I should bring the old Samick out of retirement, with 30lb limbs it’ll feel like a rubber band 🤣 that could make for an interesting video 🤣🤣
Backed my Sioux bow with faux snakeskin and used the same method to smooth the edges without damaging the wood, it came out a treat, shame I can’t post a picture.
I’d never considered snakeskin, it’s a pity we can’t add pics to comments on here, if it’s as sweet a finish as it sounds it must look pretty epic. Thanks for watching, all the best, Steve.
Mate I watched this vid This morning and thought 💭 Yep, Gotta Try that ! . Went to Walmart , Grabbed a roll of Camo tape and went for it ! . Worked out BRILLIANT, and yes you can tell when that file is at the wrong angle 📐… Awesome mate , I subbed . From an Ex Brit living in Illinois…..Thank you 👍

Pps, I forgot to say I am running a 40 lb 60 inch #28 draw Martin takedown Recurve from around 2015/16 … which was my wife’s , I was using a 60 lb longbow which was Brilliant but I sold it ( Idiot me ) anyway I thought I would resurrect the Martin , changed the Arrow Rest to a magnetic one and I am waiting for a New and better String to arrive besides that it’s bog standard . Shoots Great But I changed my style to string walking and shooting from under the jaw ( as per a video I saw on CZcams) and it’s working out really Good ! . Anyway, whatever works for you is what counts ! ….. Have a Goid one mate 👌👍👍
Hi, I’m glad you found the video helpful, i think camo taping is a really easy process with great results, and it does an outstanding job of protecting bow limbs in dense woodland. I can’t thank you enough for your words of encouragement, and for subscribing to my channel, I never expected many followers, I just enjoy making videos, so every view is a bonus, I’m really struggling with the work/life balance just now, i recently began working for myself, and I’ve quickly found myself snowed under with work, which is leaving very little down time, I’m sure things will settle down, but the current lack of content isn’t ideal for attracting viewers. It sounds like you’ve found a good setup, and as you say, what works for you is what counts, as long as we’re getting enjoyment out of what we do it’s all good, as a relative newbie to archery I’ve only shot the two bows in my videos, but they both give me good results, and leave me smiling after a shooting session. I prefer tape because on top of being easily removable it provides a hard wearing protective layer between the limbs and vegetation etc, but I’ve seen some nice results with rattle cans 👍
What a simple solution. I have a spool of that Camo Gorilla tape so I'll have a go during the week. The only thing that worries me is the trimming procedure using a file. Have you tried using a Stanley knife blade? Thanks for the video.
I’m glad you found the video useful, personally I’d recommend against using a Stanley knife, it would be extremely easy to accidentally cut into and remove some of the laminate and create a weak spot. A fine file, such as a hobby file is ideal, as long as you keep it flat to the edge of the limb, the only way you can damage the limbs is if you dig into them with the edge of the file, and you’d need to be pretty aggressive to do that, just take it nice and steady, using light pressure on the file, so as to let the file do the work for you, taking care to keep the file flat to limb you’ll be fine, you’ll be surprised how easy the process is. You could always have a dry run on something like an old CD case or something, it’s much softer than a fibreglass laminate, so if you can do that without cutting into the CD case, a bow limb will be a walk in the park, I hope that helps. Great tutorial, I have a set of SF Axiom II ilf limbs that shoot really well on a Morrison Phoenix clone riser. Only problem is that they are shiny and mostly white. Not ideal for hunting. I have a roll of that tape on order after watching your vid. Thanks!
It’s a really straightforward job, but the results are great, that very same tape is still on my limbs and still looks as though it was just applied, although I haven’t been out with the bow for a few months (shoulder injury). Hi and thanks for watching, I wouldn’t like to say how UV spray would take, it’s not something I’ve ever tried, we don’t get enough sun in the UK lol. For me the tape is cheap and easy enough to replace if it fades over time, and provides its own UV protection to the limbs, but after a full season of use I can’t say I’ve noticed any fading to the tape, sorry I can’t be more help. I’ve had the same tape on these limbs since this video went out, and I only removed the previous tape to make this video, there is absolutely no difference in performance, and the tape simply flexes with the limbs so there’s no lifting or gathering whatsoever, that’s with duct tape which is also super durable when walking through dense woodland, it’s a perfect product for this application. For me it’s purely cosmetic, I just like the look, but I know some archers camo up for hunting, although I’m sceptical as to how much of a difference it really makes.

I use camo spray paint. It can usually be washed off with solvents without harming the bow finish
