    honestly i see a lot of people on team back leg and they share stuff on socials , they all are bracing with the front leg, Even the last video featured a student whos got a solid front leg brace..

      "Back leg disc golf" is just a marketing term by Slingshot Disc Golf disputing where the center of gravity should be. Every sport with a rotational aspect has a brace. If you throw a ball, you naturally brace with your front leg. You don't even think about it. Baseball swing has a front leg brace with the back leg involved in rotation. Baseball pitching has a front leg brace with a back leg drive as well. The difference between the swing and the pitch is where your upper body weight is carried. Pitchers have their upper body weight fall over the front leg, batters keep their weight behind their brace. I'll stop there before getting further into the weeds. The truth is the disc golf throw is BOTH legs disc golf- each leg and this each hip has its own assignment

      Fully agree with gyro. Another way for me to think about this, maybe it's a language barrier but for me, having the weight over your front leg is nonsense. The front leg should brace against your weight, it should not be under your weight. And yes, this means that your center of gravity should be between the legs.

      The thing is that you dont need to push with your back foot at all if you have some forward momentum from a run up. Not pushing at all from the backleg is making the movement alot simpler.

    For some reason this explanation of coil, rotation, weight transfer and brace made things clear in a way that dozens of other videos have not. Literally can't wait to get into the field and start working on this.

    Tourney on saturday but its not too late for me to try and improve my form before then! I’ve honestly used a lot of your videos to help myself improve this year. And I finally signed up for the pdga and registered for two tournaments in the next few weeks. I’ll let ya know how it goes! :D

    Wide Yes! Todays takeaway as I develop this linear type of throw, is a wider brace is more comfortable and necessary. Thank you for the sequential lessons, ideas, and drills to work on. Now my brain is worn out, not my body . Look forward to getting this body weight transpher ingrained, so my arm can whip the disc into the air!

    Shoulder extension is ignored by most of the CZcams gurus, Im happy someone finally used the word. Just look at your thumbnail? If you tugged on the disc you’d be pulling on all of that golfers weight and power, there is 0 slack on his kinetic chain and a lot of that tightness is created through shoulder extension and coiling.

      Would not use the term shoulder extension though. Extension of the shoulder joint is pushing the arm down along the side, or even behind you. Pushing the shoulder out in front of the body is shoulder protraction. Agree that it could have more focus though, it is extremely important.

      @@ksu7595 im using the two words interchangeably. If you tell most people to extend the shoulder they will just push it outward, there is nothing about the word extension that applies downward or backward force. I say protract and extend because most people don’t have the first clue what protract means, especially in the disc golf community.
      Most of the best “disc golf form coaches” on the internet probably couldn’t even tell you what the scapula is.

    Even tho I could write in finnish I try to put it in english for everyone else to see it aswell. Anyway, I have thrown a couple 500 feet shots but normal distance without grazy wind is around 400-450. I think I am bracing pretty well and I can aim pretty nicely but I noticed that I could use some more shoulder turn. I felt muscles on my right side abdominals tightening up when I extend my hand and reach out as far as I can. If im thinking about timing, because now I just focus on planting pretty hard and everything else comes pretty naturally but Im trying to find the thing I should focus on. Is there some thing you try to focus when you throw as hard as you can. Like left hand turning back your shoulders, maximum reach out or tightening your core muscles. I dont know if you understood what I was trying to ask, but Im just curious where you put your focus on max distance drives to get the timing right?

      Wouldn't know without seeing your throw. My focus would be to delay the throw out as long as I can and brace hard.

    Getting it, took awhile to get the brace knee comfortable, in one your videos you mentioned shifting your weight down on the front leg that 's helped. I'm kinda feeling a yo-yo sensation after I plant the brace foot and add a bit more coil, Brace, let the yo-yo out and when it get back to hand fire disc.

    Jaani, I have been practicing the brace and allowing the disc to be outward with the help of the shoulder and elbow but I have ran into a problem with the timing. I do not feel very comfortable when going into the brace, like if there is no balance in my body and thats why I start pulling the disc early to create the release. Any way you could give me some advice or a video on that or both hahaha!!! Saludos Jaani 🙏😀!!!!

      ¡Hola! Balance is something to work on, then. Get comfortable being on one leg. Do one legged skipping rope (it's WORKOUT!), sidehops, one legged squats (just a little low is enough for starters) everything one legged in the gym, or wherever. It's your brain telling you, that it's dangerous here so get on two legs fast. It's not, you're just not used to it, I guess.

    Great video! I am wondering about the brace leg. I notice most pros have their brace leg relatively straight if not a slight bend. Mine tends to be very bent not sure if this is a problem or not.

      ​@@dgspindoctorokay thanks. It seems when I try to keep it straight my follow through and weight end up back more. Instead of following through forward I kind of fall onto the back leg after the throw. Perhaps I'm straightening it too soon I'm not sure I'll practice more just feels off compared to my regular form.

    Back leg throwing isnt understood even by back leg discers. Back leg disc golf pumps up the stretch/coil of the front leg. It's great for getting more power, but it is absolutely still front leg throwing

      And literally everyone, including me, is teaching to throw from the brace, and to "push" the body forward. The backleg thing is nonsense.

    I made this exact comment on slingshots last video. He shows a video of Eagle and claims that Eagle is pushing off his back leg. My comment was that eagles entire body is moving forward and his back leg is more of a transfer point rather than the starting point for his power. He’s replied directly saying he’s going to make a video on my comment. Just wanted your thoughts as a coach on this

      Of course to get to front leg, you have to "push" from the back leg. It's called walking. But I wouldn't push up, or over, just enough to get the brace to jam into the ground and the keep it there. The upper body throwing motion starts ideally only after the back leg is in the air, because the momentum and front leg push down has lifted it up.

      I used to watch sling shot but I find him to be ignorant, I made a comment once and he snapped. He's also against the front leg, he calls it "front leg disc golf" and he teaches it is wrong and that the power comes from the back leg. Ive gained more distance from this channels information then slingshot.

      Problem is, that he thinks it's about spinning out, and sure enough, spinning on the front leg is bad form. But also spinning on the back leg is bad. He doesn't get the concept of brace, that's all.
      The rotation is a by-product. Something that happens without forcing it. You see his student on Instagram do it, and all of his shots are late releases, because he aims right by rotating early.
      In reality, you slam your body on the front leg and let the forward momentum turn into rotational without actually doing it. That happens because you stop the momentum and let the body go around the spine. It's a lot more simple than trying to time the rotation and the arm to work in sync.
      When one does not understand this, it is impossible to teach bracing correctly. And even more so, if you have established yourself as BackLeg DiscGolf Guru, you'll have a lot of pride to swallow.
      It is super humbling to admit you have been wrong, even if you come to realise it.

      For "proof" that there is no (significant) push off the back leg Calvin is a good one to watch. Like this one: czcams.com/video/kJJMtnX-BAI/video.html. His back foot barely touches the ground. He goes directly from being on the toes to dragging his foot along the ground. It is quite clear that there is no push off. I think this guy has some interesting thoughts on weight distribution in the run-up: czcams.com/video/VNr0kNK9BGQ/video.html.
      Now, Calvin has quite a hop in his run-up, and others, like Eagle, seem to mabye take a bit more weight on the left leg in the x-step. It is still just a transfer step though. Suggesting that Eagle is pushing of the back leg would imply that Eagle and Calvin has significantly different fundamentals, which is highly unlikely to say the least.

    I've been trying to get more weight on my plant before throwing, but im noticing my upper body moves towards the front leg as well. This causes me to throw shots very low. Should i be trying to put all my weight on the front but keep my body behind the leg?

      ​@@kmgolf5506 It is akin to cutting / changing direction in basketball or football. The plant foot doesn't just receive the body's weight. It actively pushes into the ground (on the inside of the foot) to create forces that send the player in the direction she wants to travel. Without the active push the player would just fall / run right through the brace; the brace would just be a step.
      Same idea with the brace here. The pressure into the ground acts as a brake on the body's forward momentum, which is transferred to the arm and slings it around.

    wouldn't it fix your subjects form quite a bit...well not maybe the form itself, because it looks fine... but if he would activate his core while coiling? not just turning the shoulders (only upper body) but to activate your abs and the side of your body to boost the coil. seems like a much more powerful move..or am I completely wrong here 😋

      Activating individual muscles is something quite detailed, and not my style at all.

      @@dgspindoctor I know..that's why you're the guy I follow with the instructions. keep it simple!
      that's just a thought I've been pondering for a while. like twisting your body during the coiling seems pretty natural. activating the right/left side of your body & activating your abs for a brief second while your body is twisting seems to add some pop to the throw. some sort of miiiiicrodetails though.
      the art of throwing the damn plastic disc..simple yet complicated. it's beautiful 🥰

    Ok. But if there is not enough rotation, the back shoulder is lagging behind and you end up throwing with the arm only. This has been my problem and still is, it's hard to fix. czcams.com/video/FG9k4rQb-ko/video.html

      The back shoulder should not follow the disc. If that is what you mean.

      ​@@dgspindoctorI'm not sure what I mean exactly. It's difficult to know what you are doing unless you are watching a video of yourself (and I have recorded myself a lot). I just know that my back shoulder is lagging behind. The pros do it so that the back shoulder starts moving forward before everything else in the upper body czcams.com/video/FG9k4rQb-ko/video.html - or at least the back arm starts moving forward and then the back shoulder follows.
      I do it the opposite way - my front arm starts moving forward and the back shoulder/arm follows.
      Maybe you can use this as a general tip what problems people have.

      @@RBadding So you are probably starting the arm too early because proper bracing (stopping the momentum) makes your torso rotate. I would not think about the rear arm or the shoulder.

      Could also be that you try to pull the elbow in a straight line too close to your chest. If you slam the elbow far out, you will most likely rotate, too.
